Vivian had just thrown the stack onto her desk when she head someone at her door. “Uhh….So just a heads up, you’re like my new favorite person,” she joked waving her hand slightly to invite her in.
Samantha laughed as she walked in, tipping her head a little in the woman’s direction. “Well, those are words I never thought I’d hear.” she joked in reply, sticking her hand out. “Samantha Dahlia, Advanced Combat Instructor. Nice to meet you.”
He smiled and nodded. “Is alright. I understand.” he squeezed her hand and let go, placing his hands on his pockets as she kept talking. “Oh I forgive you, definately. It was just a missunderstanding.” he grinned. “Is a pleasure to meet you still.”
“Indeed. The feeling is mutual. So, handsome, what drove a fella like you to come to a place like this?” she inquired softly, looking him up and down.
“Have you seen Lily? Spoken to her?”
“Wait...Lily is here? I-I haven’t seen her! Oh God, that’s even more of a reason for me to get out of here, Poprock. I can’t stay anywhere near you guys. You will never be safe.”
“You can’t be serious.”
“Yeah, Charlie, I am. I had to leave because my former employers are after me and I’m scared for everybody here. I don’t want any more bodies in my body count. I’m thinking about changing my identity, laying low, maybe even starting my own business or something.”
Vivian was rummaging through papers at her test when she theatrically let out a frustrated sigh, “When I signed up to teach power control, I was not expecting this much paperwork.”
Samantha leaned against the doorframe, a light smirk on her lips as she said, “Show me your signature and I can use my telekinesis to sign all of the documents for you.”
“I’m…your coworker. Professor Ryu?…” He said a bit confused and placed his hands on his pockets. “I’ve been teaching here for almsot a year but hadn’t had the oportunity to formally introduce myself…The principal told me your name, no need to get too defensive.”
“O-Oh...Shit...” Sam muttered under her breath, a rare pink coloring her cheeks as she gave him a look of pure embarrassment. “I’m really, really, really sorry. You’ll have to forgive me! I just got out of a profession where if someone knew my name, that meant that I was extremely close to dying.” she explained, extending her hand out to him. “Samantha Dahlia, Advanced Combat Instructor. It’s really nice to meet you. and I’m sorry for jumping on your case like that.”
“There’s something I can agree with lately. What?”
“That’s just it...I’m thinking about leaving Charlie. For good.”
“You’re leaving again.”
“I...Yeah...Yeah I’m thinking about sending in my resignation letter. I wanted to talk to you about it first, though, before I went anywhere.”
“I’m assuming your talking based on your personal experience here. I already plan to do that.”
“Well, stick to that, son. You’ll thank yourself later. What sucks is I owe everything I know to them. For example, I know how to kill you and dispose of your remains under 24 hours without the authorities ever finding out, thanks to these guys. Doesn’t do me much good in this profession, but still.”
That sounds incredibly personal, Samantha. Is everything alright?
“No, but they might be when you tell me who you are and how you know my name.” Samantha replied coolly, eyeing up the man in a defensive manner.
“That sucks. Sorry,” She frowned feeling bad for the woman.
“It’s fine...” Samantha sighed, biting her lip before laughing darkly to herself, “Well, it’s not really, but I can handle it. I have to.” Looking up at Cammie, she tried to smile up at her and asked, “So, how have things been with you? Did the showcase and everything go well?”
“…I don’t know if there will ever come a day where people don’t piss me off. Take it from me, kids: Be self-employed and independent. Never rely on anyone for anything.”
“Um… okay?”
"Poppy...I...I need to talk to you about something..."
“Sorry, pretty boy, did I say something to hurt your feelings?” she asked, crossing her arms and looking him over.
“So you’re Poppy’s sister huh?”
"Depends on who's asking. Who wants to know?" she inquired, using her powers to will her knuckle wrap to herself.
“…I don’t know if there will ever come a day where people don’t piss me off. Take it from me, kids: Be self-employed and independent. Never rely on anyone for anything.”
“Teaching life lessons again, Sam?”
"Ehh, more like generally being pissed at the world and debating handing in a resignation letter. I need to talk to you..."
A small laugh escaped his lips, “Ah, well, start with the basics then? I can manipulate light and energy. Probably the reason I was so interested in physics.” He smirked, “I’m actually quite good. I’ll have you know. The offer is appreciated, though.”
“Hmm, makes sense. I can do this-” she cut off as she lifted his desk off the ground, setting it in front of her with a similar smirk to his, “But I tend to pride myself more on my exemplary combat skills. Really? No offense, no guy, but good equivocates to dead in my mind. I prefer terms like flawless, precise, infallible. Good isn’t great, nor will it ever be. In my line of work, good meant you got hung out to dry by your peers and beaten close to death.”
“Oh, do call me Samantha. Miss Dahlia makes me sound like a crotchety old southern widow.” she said motioning for him to follow her to her office. “Oh really? Well, I’d never really say this in front of the kids, but I could certainly never do what you do. You should meet them, they’re both lovely.” she said off-handedly, sitting on the edge of her desk. “So, Ellijah, tell me about yourself.”
He smiled, “Very well, Samantha it is then.” He nodded and followed her, stuffing his hands in his pants pockets. “Teach physics? Well, I in turn I doubt I could do what you do either. Not that I don’t have the training, however. Well, when I come across them I’ll make a point of getting to know them then, yeah?” Eli smiled and leaned against one of the desks, across from Samantha, “Me? Well, what would you like to know?”
"Anything really! I'm a curious cat, see. I know it'll kill me someday, but I can't help but be nosy." she teased gently. "Also, if you want to further your training, I'd be more than willing to train you some more. I don't often allow men the opportunity to roll around on a mat with me." she chuckled, shooting him a wink.
“Oh, you have NO idea.” she laughed, shaking his hand firmly. “Samantha Dahlia, advanced combat instructor. Pleasure to meet you, Ellijah. Advanced Physics huh? Guess you must consider yourself to be pretty smart then. And I’m referring to Charles and Erik. Charles is a fellow PE instructor and Erik is the VP here. Both are great guys.” she said, looking him up and down.
He smiled and nodded, “The pleasure’s all mine, Miss. Dahlia.” He chuckled, “I’m smart enough to know that there are many smarter than myself.” he admitted. “Ah, right, know of them, but I don’t know them well personally.”
