he’s on the receiving end of a noncommittal grumble. if her dad has anything to say about it, even the date will end up cancelled. he’ll lock john up in the kitchen until his parents come looking. charlie’s not sure she’ll be able to handle time spent with the gunk-covered version of him. “i’ll have to submit the next months’ schedule by the end of the day. maybe it’ll get approved before he realizes my productivity is fueled by fear?” she still hears their friends on the other side of the door and, reluctantly, she starts to back away. “i don’t know if i should give carlton preferential treatment for the heads up or if i should make sure he’s working the eight party sunday— you’ll be spared, obviously.”

    john’s not sure he can ever actually remember henry taking something away from charlie, or making her cancel any plans. of the two twins, sammy was definitely the one more likely to land himself in hot water, but charlie being a mini-version of her dad definitely helped her case more often than not. still, john doesn’t want to tempt fate. “carlton deserves purgatory. make him work that party who requested the healthy snack and lunch spread.” picking leftovers from veggie trays didn’t hit quite the same as half-finished pizzas. as charlie starts to back away, john reaches out, his fingertips brushing her sleeve and then her wrist. he never thought he’d want to leave a supply closet less. “should i try? to erase the camera, i mean.” he konws his way around the security office but he won’t risk it if charlie thinks it’s a bad idea. “at least the last 40 minutes...”
