A Personal Observation I’ve Made About The Agere Community
I haven't been very active on the Tumblr side of the agere community for quite some time, but now that I'm interacting with the community again, I've noticed how white-centric the agere community can sometimes be. Granted, a lot of online communities tend to have that problem, but it’s especially noticeable in the agere community.
Now, I don't want to assume that all age regressors are automatically racist because they don't make content that specifically caters to regressors of color, but I have noticed that a lot of general posts about age regressors tend to assume that the regressor in question is white. They don't really take into account the different cultural practices, holidays or hobbies that might be more relatable for regressors of color, and tend to assume that every regressor is a white American who grew up in the suburbs.
The optimist in me wants to believe that these are simply oversights on the part of people unfamiliar with different cultures and their customs. But in my opinion, to make the agere community a much more inclusive and welcoming place, more people should take into consideration the fact that age regression is a universal thing. No two regressors are exactly the same, whether it's the food they eat or the holidays they celebrate.
Diversity is what makes the world so special, and I think the agere community should celebrate it more often! The best thing about a community is learning more about the people in it, where they come from and what makes their culture so unique. A little open-mindedness can go a long way, and can certainly help regressors of color feel less like outsiders.
Obviously, I realize I cannot speak on behalf of every single age regressor of color. These are just my personal thoughts on the matter. If anyone has their own two-cents they’d like to chip in with, feel free! I’d love to hear everyone’s thoughts.
[White age regressors are allowed and encouraged to reblog this, but please don’t add any commentary that’d be less than helpful]

It's okay if your coloring books and crayons came from the dollar store. It's okay if you only have one stuffed animal, and it was a gift. It's okay if your toys came from the thrift store. It's okay if you don't have a pacifier, onesies, or sippy cups/bottles. Not everyone has accessibility to AgeRe/AgeDre items. It can be a struggle to safely own the items while remaining private, hard to buy them if you don't have the finances, ect. Your obstacles are valid, and so are you. Please know that someday you'll be able to have all the things that spark childish joy in your heart 💖
i think agere spaces online still have a lot of work to do in terms of ACTUALLY being normal about regressors who do things seen as "strange", "wrong", or "different". lets see if you pass this simple test, if you do, congrats! you win a cookie. answer these questions;
are you normal about regressors who struggle with hypersexuality or do you think they're "impure"?
are you normal about fat regressors or are you secretly judging them in your head?
are you normal about vent regressors or do you think they aren't "pure enough" to regress?
are your normal about regressors who indulge in adult activities outside of their regression or do you view that as "wrong"?
are you normal about padded regressors or do you think to yourself "uh oh, an abdl..." when you see one?
are you normal about regressors who aren't white or do you get uncomfortable when they interact with you?
are you normal about trans regressors or are you misgendering them either in real life or in your head?
if you answered negatively to any of these questions, you have a lot of work to do.
i’m gonna be real, it’s insane to me how well being spoken to like a child and given childish sounding advice helps me through a lot of problems.
i never ever saw it as being talked down to. it’s like the one thing that truly helps me. and for whatever reason, we just stop teaching people how to deal with their emotions in healthy ways after a certain age. i don’t like that.
i need to be told to belly breathe to calm down. i need to be given clear and concise steps on what to do after a meltdown. i need to be walked through every step of grief. i need things broken down to me like i am a toddler or else i’m not going to get better.
this isn’t even something that’s agere specific, it’s just how i am. i have always done better when someone walks me through big feelings using small terminology and descriptions. adult feelings are hard to deal with otherwise.
it’s our turn to make you smile
Here's a few little cards I made! I think in the agere community, there's soooo many types of regressors out there, it's important to recognize and give love to all of them! If you have any suggestions for some more to make feel free to let me know!
"electric car or car that runs on gasoline?" no boo, these:
I think being in preschool would save me.
Routine, being walked through the day with support and care. Circle time, reading time, playtime, snacktime, naps.
Being gently taught that it's okay to make mistakes, how to handle big feelings, how to make friends, treat others well, be treated well by others.
No exams, no future to worry about, no big homework assignments, just learning how to write my name and how to ask others to play with me.

A LOT OF THINGS CAN BE TRAUMATIC FOR CHILDREN UNDER THE AGE OF 10
I CAN'T STRESS THIS ENOUGH
WATCHING YOUR PARENTS FIGHT ALMOST EVERYDAY CAN BE TRAUMATIC
BULLYING CAN BE TRAUMATIC
BEING YELLED AT FOR DOING MINOR MISTAKE CAN BE TRAUMATIC
NOT GETTING PROPER ACCOMODATION AND COPING MECHANISM FOR YOUR MENTAL ILLNESS CAN BE TRAUMATIC
NEGLECT CAN BE TRAUMATIC
STRESSED OUT FROM BEING "GIFTED CHILD" CAN BE TRAUMATIC
YOU WERE A CHILD
i don’t see enough representation for physically disabled littles or littles who require accessibility or mobility aids. littles who are chronically ill and constantly dealing with pain or dizziness. littles with autism who don’t have stereotypical cutesy autistic traits. littles who can’t use gear for very long or at all for whatever reason.
as a little who has chronic fatigue syndrome and uses noise cancelling headphones as an accessibility aid, i don’t feel as seen in the community as littles who are able bodied.
and i can’t do a lot of things other regressors do. playing takes energy and exacerbates my CFS. using pacis for too long is uncomfortable because of all the dental work in my mouth. i have a hard time keeping up with things like my journals and whatnot because of low energy and brainfog. my regression can be impure and i throw tantrums easily because of my autism.
littles who are “different” deserve to be seen too. we’re just as important as other littles.
I just think more regressors need to get silly with it. I think too many of us take our regression a little too seriously all the time, myself included. We talk about how regression doesn't have to be aesthetic all the time and this includes being a little weird when regressed.
Just get silly, what this means is up to you.
