I really like that OFMD is about Stede discovering himself and his identity through friendship and love. Very few queer shows are about that. Sex, yes. But love - platonic and familial and romantic and sexual? Not so much.
I’ve never seen a single episode of the pitt but I do think that kind autistic woman should fuck the twitchy drug guy who has the eyes of an abandoned shelter dog
hoping and praying that the reversal of the update will actually encourage people to fucking reblog posts. i am so sick of ridiculous like-to-reblog ratios!! reblogging is the heart of this goddamn website!!! artists & creators want you to meaningfully engage with their work! people want your commentary and your obsessive tag sorting!! PLEASE!!!
korra you catch too many strays in your own show but i think you’re great and my opinion is the one that matters 😛
watching lok as an adult is appreciating the sweet parts of all the relationships in the love triangle while gloating that my sapphic agenda was the best one 🫣
rewatching shera before it is brutally taken from me and i truly find it so funny and sweet and in character that bow and glimmer cannot help but immediately love catra in season 5. like they are allergic to hating people
Званый ужин.
my new current obsession being a show about the us marines was NOT on my bingo card for this year. especially a show that is lowkey pro military propaganda and so so opposite of my own personal beliefs.
anyway, more people watch this show, i need sullivan and wilkinson fics of all kinds or else im gonna write them myself
A little PSA for those getting into Boots Netflix fandom
Boots is set BEFORE Don't Ask, Don't Tell. And that is very important. Before DADT, it was a crime to be queer and serve in the military.
Randy Shillts' Conduct Unbecoming documents what that looked like. The uniformed services used to conduct active investigations -- witchunt style based on suspicion -- into if people were queer or not. And if caught you could be tried and go to prison for being queer. So you'd be dishonorably discharged AND have a prison record. (So, that should give you some idea of the extreme stress Sullivan was under.)
And, it created a culture where homophobia, coercion, blackmailing, and sexual harassment and assault were rife.
DADT went into effect December 21, 1993.
It allowed people to serve if they stayed in the closet. It curtailed the witchhunt culture. It allowed people more leeway in coming forward to report sexual harassment and sexual assault. Unless people had committed a crime (assault, fraternization), being found out as queer lead to a general (if you were lucky) or dishonorable discharge, but not a criminal trial.
From Wikipedia:
The "don't ask" section of the DADT policy specified that superiors should not initiate an investigation of a service member's orientation without witnessing disallowed behaviors. However, evidence of homosexual behavior deemed credible could be used to initiate an investigation. Unauthorized investigations and harassment of suspected servicemen and women led to an expansion of the policy to "don't ask, don't tell, don't pursue, don't harass"
Was DADT a deeply flawed policy? Yes, but it made a world of difference for queer service people. Let's give an example --
An acquaintance of mine is a Lesbian Transwoman. Prior to DADT she was being witchunted for being gay due to some of her effeminate mannerisms. (She lived and dressed as a man during her military service.) Afterwards, though? She was able to push back against the NCIS investigation. Show proof that I have ever been to a gay bar. Show proof that I have ever responded to a man flirting with me. Show proof that I show an interest in men. Show proof that I don't show an interest in women. The endless witchhunt stopped, she completed her contract -- her performance improved -- was honorably discharged, and was able to use her GI Bill benefits.
DADT also meant that the uniformed criminal investigation services (NCIS, CGIS, CID, etc) had more free time to investigate actual crimes instead of wasting it on witchhunts. It reformed their cultures and forced them to modernize.
I think it speaks volumes that Cameron would rather join and stay inside the military industrial complex that is a literal anti gay cult, than be anywhere near his mother - who among other things, slept with his recruiter and pretended to be a gold star mom for attention. No wonder Cameron thought she was lying about his age and was freaking out, he thought she had come to take him away and ignore that he achieved an objectively insane thing - successfully being a glass closet twink in the Marines in 1990
Please let Boots gather a fandom. I need fics on this show. About all of the characters. Maybe especially Sullivan, but all the others too.
Hell, even the background characters are good and interesting in this.
A show with goddamn nuance.
Please somebody fill the AO3, before my brain forces me to write a character study about Sullivan myself.
i just started watching severance and i sense old man yaoi is afoot. no spoilers though i am very deliberately staying away.
NOT THESE GUYS FLIRTING IN FRONT OF DYLAN. i knew i was right
