Above Ground
Beatrice Summer was beginning to wake. Sheād reached the stage of half-asleep, where she was pretty much awake already but she still had her eyes closed and as long as that was the case she could draw out the whole āgetting out of badā process. Well she could if she was actually in a bed, instead she was on a cold floor and that realisation was enough to force her to open her eyes. It wasnāt that sleeping on the floor was an entirely unexpected occurrence, sometimes sheād be too deep into the subway network to head back in time so sheād just sleep where she was. But Beatrice had been trying to avoid that recently because it usually made Royal or Mary mad at her and theyād never let her out to the surface is they didnāt trust her in the underground. And Beatrice definitely remember going to sleep in her bed last (well the combination of sleeping bag and scrunched up old newspaper that passed for her bed) so she hadnāt woken up where she was supposed to.
Beatrice looked around hoping to see the rest of her āfamilyā and get an explanation but when she did that she realised none of her family were here. She sat up and brought her knees to her chest because she was starting to get scared, this place didnāt look like any part of the subway or sewers sheād ever seen and she had no idea how she got here and it all looked really strange. Beatrice could see some rock covering an exit and it was covered in this strange slime that she didnāt even like looking at it so she just looked straight upā¦and that changed everything. Because when she looked up she didnāt see a roof she saw sky. Which meant for a couple of seconds all the confusion and mystery didnāt matter because Beatrice could see the sky and when she breathed in it was fresh air. She stood up finally to take it all in but eventually a disappointment set it.
She hadnāt noticed she was outside at first and maybe that was because of everything going on but there was another reason. Because it wasnāt like it was supposed to be, it wasnāt right. āWhy is it dark?ā Beatrice spoke aloud, because for all she knew she was alone, and she couldnāt hide her sadness. āItās supposed to be bright.ā She crossed her arms and kept them close to her chest and once again Beatrice just felt scared and confused by whatever was happening.
Nathaniel glanced over at the girl seemingly dazed by the scenario that apparently a few people (from what he'd seen) had got themselves into. Well that did include him but hey. He always ended up in scenario's like this. It was always funny however when someone called an ambulance freaking out over him. He'd usually just get up and walk off or groan and people would run for the hills screaming. That was always a good laugh. Apart from that one time that guy kicked him. But hey.
He stared at the lady wondering whether he should talk to her or not. He didn't wanna be rude but he didn't want to freak her out either. He paused to look up when she did. huh. He wondered why she looked so peaceful when looking at it. He frowned slightly. It wasn't the best of nights, nothing special was happening. Well apart from the fact someone must have kidnapped him or he must have been really out of it to end up here. That's when he heard his opportunity.
"Hey sweetie. Its probably just night. Don't you like it?" He went a little easy. By the looks of it she could do some damage and he didn't fancy lying on the floor for however long it took him to get back up. "You seem confused. Names Nathaniel, Nathaniel Parker." He grinned to himself slightly awarding himself for sounding so James bond style cool and slick.
