A bit more than a year ago I had recurring dreams where I wandered into a rainforest and stumbled upon a beautiful, opalescent lake or pond. I dove in and ended up swimming underneath a rock formation, leading into a cave, all the way fascinated by the beautiful water and plants. When I surfaced I was in a strange cave and totally entranced by hypnotic patterns in the rock walls for an un-tellable amount of time. I had this strange but ecstatic feeling that I belonged and should stay. Then I looked back at the water and noticed dark shadows lurking in the water and realized they had been watching me the entire time. Perhaps they led me there into a trap.

If I were to go back to home and reality, I would have to return to the water being aware of these dangerous beings following me. If I stayed in the cave I wouldn't be able to survive, perhaps I'd die of the beauty.

In following dreams I would go to the cave as a silent, dark butterfly, but my presence was something that terrified people who saw me. They could only sense me through my shadows and the sound of droplets hitting the water. I learned later that these caves are called cenotes and after seeing the painting, my friend Claudia pointed me to the direction of Itzpapalotl via Octavio Paz.
