I am lying in bed, lights off, using my phone light to look into Twix and Tofu’s vivs. They are such beautiful, fascinating creatures. I could watch them all night, even when they don’t do anything but sit there.
Truly wonderful little guys. :)

:O What a talented geck!

Does your geck like this? I wanted to get some for mine as she doesn't like live bugs (she's a diva)
Yeah! Oak seems to love it. There are always a couple of dents in the bowl when I check it in the morning. Which is good, because thus far I’ve discovered he refuses to eat: crickets, Pangea, fresh fruit, and more than a lick of lizard jam. I also got some mango Repashy in the hopes that he’ll like that flavour, too. Variation is nice!I imagine he also likes the original crested gecko diet, because that’s what he was fed on before he lived with me.

Meet Professor Bear! He's coming home with us when he's nine weeks old.
Anyway I played some Overwatch today and I'm so happy Mercy and Zarya are girlfriends.
Some changes to Twix’s viv... I thought it was all looking a bit “flat” so I added another level in. I’m going to put either carpet or fake grass on top, in order to create more cover. and figure out how to make the back wall more interesting.
Some late-night lizarding.
When I tell people to delete anon hate, to not publish it, it’s not me saying “ignore it and it’ll stop; don’t fight back.” It is 100% petty and spiteful. Honestly, I can’t think of anything better than the person who sent the hate obsessively checking your blog and refreshing and refreshing, waiting for you to reply, and getting increasingly frustrated when the ask they so masterfully crafted never pops up & you just keep posting cute pictures of your pets and talking about how nice your day was.

Sad day for a little geck... (animal death cw)
Yesterday, I noticed that one of our leopard geckos was in a very bad way. His tail was pencil thin, his abdomen was enormous, and when I tapped him very gently on the back, he seemed to convulse. I immediately took him off the shop floor and to our vets. Our vets aren’t reptile specialists--they can do the basics, but we went to get a referral, really. They could at least prescribe some painkiller for him and something to help him poop, so we took that, medicated the little fella, and set him up a nice vivarium in our isolation room.
He didn’t want to go in either of his hides. He kept dragging himself around, but his stomach was so bad that he couldn’t use his back legs properly. It looked like a really bad impaction, but it’d come out of nowhere, basically overnight, and our leopard geckos all live on reptile carpet--I’m not sure what there was for him to get impacted on.
So we called the reptile vet (it’s about a mile from us), and they had some emergency cases in. By the time they got back to us -- it was only about 20 minutes later -- they didn’t have the reptile people in anymore. So we tried another one we knew of, about an hour’s drive away, and for whatever absurd reason, they closed at 3pm.
Now, I can’t stress how hard we all tried to get him an emergency appointment. It was a Saturday, we were busy and heck and understaffed, and we spent hours calling around practices that were around 4-5 hours drive away, calling in all kinds of favours, and the best we could get was today, Sunday, at 14:45.
While we were calling around, a warm bath helped the little guy take a really giant poop, and we were all pretty relieved! We put him back in his viv, but he kept acting strangely. As is to be expected of someone in a lot of discomfort.
We kept a close eye on him until we left, at around 8pm, and truth be told, I expected to come in and find him dead. But at 6am this morning, the little guy was still there. I took him out, gave him his medicine, and although he hadn’t pooped overnight, he was squirming and fighting a lot more in my hand. Honestly, I was proud of him!
Within a few hours, you could see how much of an effect the painkillers were having on him. He could open his eyes again and lift his head. I went and sat with him about midday, gave him a warm, shallow bath, and helped him drink through a syringe. His stomach was so bad that I think he’d got dehydrated in not being able to drag himself to his waterbowl.
I had a nice little chat with him, popped him back, and went about my work. Took my lunch break, went to get him ready for his trip to the vets and he was just... sprawled out, mouth open, completely dead.
It was a horrible thing. Yesterday was so manic on the shop floor and I really can’t put into words exactly how hard everyone was trying to do their best for the geck. The only consolation is that we named him, managed to get rid of as much of his pain as we could, and he wasn’t alone for his last few days.
He had a lot of people fighting for him. I just wanted to write this so that he’s remembered, really.

The start of Hobnob’s viv!
Picking up a new boy next Sunday. :o
His name is Hobnob. :O

A big round of applause for Twix, who just ate his first large weaner ra.t without hesitation. Slightly less applause for Tofu who, after two hours, is still booping his curiously and occasionally chewing on the tail.
I think they’re having a bit of a personality swap today.
