Artist Statement for Project 6, Neon Kitties!
I wanted this project to be fun and light. I took cat videos and put them into premier and edited the images then made GIFS. This class was really fun and I learned a lot, thanks guys!
Project #6
Artist Statement for Project 5
The process of creating something doesn't always have to end with a creation. It can be completely pointless. There is something unsettling about watching a person put something together when the object in question simply falls to the floor. Especially if they keep doing it even though they obviously aren't getting anywhere. That was the feeling I wanted to recreate in my performance art piece.

Reading Response for project 5
Performance art is like the ugly stepchild of the art world. The essay “Performance: A Hidden History”really drives this home. Usually one thinks “theater” when they think performance art, but that is not necessarily the case. Performance art is different because it is about more then just wearing costumes and taking on a persona. The audience-performer relationship is more powerful in performance art and it often conveys a much deeper message then merely a story. I was unaware that the history of performance art went back so far but I was interested to learn of its political roots and how far it has come in such a short time.
The film Marina Abramovic: The Artist is Present was very powerful in its portrayal of performance art. One line struck me in particular “In performance art it’s a knife and its your own blood, in theater it’s a fake knife and ketchup.” This pretty much sums up how performance art cannot simply be theater. Marina’s methods of art are unconventional and while part of me disagrees with some of her practices, they are hers to carry out, not mine. I think that might be why performance art can be so appealing to people. Here is this person taking part in something so socially unacceptable that you could never in your wildest dreams think of doing it, especially in front of a crowd, but here she is. She is really a rare breed and I applaud her artistic prowess.

I believe we are what we eat and this video is an abstracted take on that issue. These days there are far to many harmful additives in our food and beverages. This work is meant to highlight the negative effects that these additives may have on us. In a world of genetically modified food there is only so much we can to change how our food is processed, but we can at least be aware of what it might be doing to our minds and bodies.
That looks like a delicious and trippy granola bar.
Interesting take on a self portrait. I love it.
I think you did a great job with your video, and agreed that our “fake” food is far more harmful than most people care to think about.
Interesting idea. I like how you used the plant layered onto the video of yourself! I’m curious however about the choice of music!
Thanks everyone! I should have mentioned that the soundtrack isn't actually music, i used the text to talk feature on a Mac, chose an eerie voice titled "bad news" and had it read names of food additives that are harmful. Hope that clears up any confusion as to why it sounds like really bad music.
Teresa Scaggiari, Vanishing and Becoming - The Land Became the Sea
Just want to make sure everyone sees this and can comment so I’m reblogging. I was a little late. Dx
i think this video did a great job of “vanishing and becoming”. nice video!!
Really great effects!
Project #4 - Art Video
"Ride or Die"
For this project I had difficulty keeping my video at one minute and not going over. The song I chose for this video is DJ Wonder’s “chopped and screwed” rendition of 2pac’s song, “Hail Mary”. 2pac is a prolific rapper from the 1990s and had a way about him that was relevant, notoriously street wise, and un-candid. The footage I incorporated in my piece includes Syrian war footage from this year, the printing of the new 100 dollar bill, and other video and audio abstractions.
I like the skeleton endlessly walking up the stairs. It’s interesting to contrast with the images of war and money, two things that people live and die for.
thanks, anarchy faith feedback is appreciated!
I liked this one a lot, the music and the sound from the war video worked together and they images all seemed to meld well.
I didn’t get the memo about the on line critique. Little bummed I don’t get to see some of these on the projector. Enjoy!
Very abstract. It kept my attention the entire way, but WHO IS THE MOTHER?!?! Now I need to know this. haha, nice job.
Whoa man….. This was super abstracted!! Haha excellent work though!! I have to like, sit down and think about what I saw :P
This was so weirdly wonderful!
This was so delightfully strange!
So intense! Loved it.
Project 4: Vanishing and Becoming
Sorry I’m late on the upload!! My video file was insane and it was taking wayyy too long to post to youtube :P
Artist Statement:
For this project I really took the idea of dreams from vanishing and becoming. When you’re dreaming it’s like your mind is off wandering into so many different things, either bizarre, or uncommon, or just completely ordinary things. So I took this idea of falling asleep and letting your mind wander into those different places, almost like vanishing from where you were, but never actually moving. If anything I hope you find it interesting!!
I really like the concept for yours. And the video is spiffy too.
Nice use of layering images.
Very interesting! I think you layered the images really well, picked a great soundtrack, and of course the bunny eating is my favorite.
Project #4 Vanishing and Becoming. Normalcy comes in and out of this video, establishing what was needed for this project. Really happy how this turned out.
Nice one, nice music and the visuals are mesmerizing
veryartisticabd
This might be my favorite one. Great images and good use of video techniques. Well done!
very trippy! I liked how the music and images went together.
Very Important Self Portrait #4.
Really good use of layering. Got an emotional response for sure.
Video art project.
The images you used were really interesting and I enjoyed the soundtrack. My favorite part was the poetry put over the music, very well done.

Artist’s statement
I started with the idea of abstract videos and looked that up on youtube to get the video that I used for my project. I also wanted to stay with the abstract theme so I put an abstract idea with it. I decided on the question of our existence. I looked around for clips of people saying this or questions like it. Making it all flow was the hardest part. I had to figure out how to make my sound clips go together well so I decided to put classical music in the background to make it feel finished. The final product isn’t quite as good as I was hoping but it was what I could figure out with what I had.
I think this is great. It flows really well and looks very finished. The sound was my favorite part.
