It takes time to fall in love with running again. It takes runs in the pouring rain, excited conversations with your teammates, running new courses, running familiar ones just for comfort. sometimes falling in love means removing yourself from the science of it all and just feeling it. feeling the run, the pain, the high that comes after. sometimes it means leaving the watch at home and forgetting about pace. falling in love again means forgiveness. sometimes you need to take a step back and realize you are exactly where you need to be. you have been in the darkness before, and you have no reason to fear anything anymore.
running shouldn’t be something you dread.
yeah, races and tough workouts should be hard - both mentally and physically.
but running is inherently joyful. fast, slow, long, short, trails, track, road. whatever your MO. run free, run grateful, run with your heart. it’s not about place, distance, pace, calories burned, whatever other reasons we’ve learned. remember why you started (if you think you started for the above reasons… think deeper. think to running down hills as a child with your arms out. think to playing tag on the playground, sprinting as fast as you could and laughing. that is when we started. as soon as we could). when it gets hard, when you feel drained and wonder why, you just need to spark that joy again. i fully believe that it’s always inside of us, if we look. always, always: “running should be free, man.”
I am so sick and tired of putting so much self-worth into my running
It’s so so liberating when you realize that you don’t have to
Love running, love my team ❤️
