My name is Jinthe. It...wasn't always.
I'm not meant to be here. I'm from a different time. But I'm here now, and I'll make the most of it.
(Appearance under cut)
Oh where am I? Uh hi… I’m Samson…
Uh I might be lost.
- @kitchengrade-mind-mixer
*Jinthe looked up from their book.*
Hello, Samson. I am Jinthe. I am also lost, so I cannot help you with that.
oh… dang. Uh are you hungry? You look young. I have oranges.
You have fruit?
I could eat.
I am not too young.
*They set down their book- it sounded.. off, as they moved, but it was hard to tell why. She also seemed not quite human, but in a way that was hard to describe.*
*Samson squinted his five pupiless eyes. He wasn’t one to judge based off being nonhuman. But he was still suspicious. He made an orange float out of his bag then gently float to Jinthe.*
I only ever eat oranges. Helps with my- it helps with some issues I got.
You only eat fruit?
*They examined the orange, then carefully peeled it and took a bite.*
uh no. I eat other things sometimes… like orange chicken. But most times I only eat oranges. They taste good.
*the bite of orange was sweeter and colder then normal.*
Chicken is good.
*They looked at the orange, smiling slightly, taking another bite.*
Thank you.
yeah. No need to thank me. Sharing food is a good way to get trust or make people less annoyed. Very useful for my job.
Oh? What is your job?
Uh I work as a superhero at SDN… I also have another job waiting tables. Oh occasionally I’m a magician for rent.
A.. superhero..?
What is that?
idiots who intervene crime and stuff. SDN just dispatches people with powers whenever someone calls in. But there’s been Superheroes without powers, like the third Mechaman. Though he’s been going through some controversy recently, resigning and all that. There’s only been three Mechamen from my knowledge.
Oh!
I see.
You consider yourself an idiot?
*He seemed to realize he had accidentally called himself an idiot, then laughed.*
I am a big time idiot. But not because I work there.
*They seemed confused.*
Why, then?
I’m cursed. I’d say I’m a pretty big idiot for that.
uh what’s the book by the way? I’ve been ignoring it. I don’t really read, other than for new spells.
My book?
*they hesitated.*
I'm trying to learn more about this society? It's a book about social cues.
they make books about social cues? That’d be useful. I live in a city if you had any questions.
They do, yes. Though I think they are mostly targeted for people with neurodivergence-?
That is what it says in the book, anyway .
I don't have any questions right now, thank you.
coolio. uhh folks with neurodivergence… Yeah that’d be useful for them too.
... Yeah.
*They hesitated, then finished the orange.*
*Samuel held out his hand for the peel, the back of his hand is covered in blue fur like body hair. His nails were painted purple and blue.*
*They handed him the peel, glancing at the fur but not commenting.*
*He put the peel into a ziplock baggie of peels. He noticed them looking, and put his hand away when done with putting the orange peel in the baggie.*
I normally boil them later, I make tea with them. I tried candied peels, I don’t like them much.
*He explained.*
Oh! They make good tea?
yep! But I might be bias… since I like oranges a lot.
It was good!
they were good! I get the best kind.
What type are they?
Cara Cara oranges. They’re sweet.
I'll keep that in mind! Thank you!
mhm.
*He looks around awkwardly*
so what do you enjoy?
Reading, laying in the sun, going to parties.
There weren't really any parties where I'm from.
Laying in the sun rocks.
Where are you from where parties ain’t being held?
I've found it does not have a name in english.
what about in Latin?
*They seemed surprised.*
You know Latin?
My girlfriend taught me, a long time ago.
But, no, it doesn't have a name in Latin, either.
I had to learn when I was a kid. A lot of spell instructions are in Latin.
*He seemed surprised at the mention of them having a girlfriend, but didn’t say anything.*
*They hesitated*
I wish I knew where she was. Its been.. a while..
oh. She’s probably looking for you. Since you’re also lost, right?
*She sighed.*
No. She thinks I am dead.
*his ears flick up*
Oh.. why so?
I-
*She hesitates.*
She thinks she saw her father kill me.
Oh.
uh you clearly survived… right?
..Yes. Clearly.
clearly.
*He nodded, looking over at his tail. He seemed to be thinking about something and then ignored it.*
sooo… I’m Samson
You mentioned. I'm Jinthe.
oh yeah… I did.
uh I suppose I’m just supposed to just start… looking for a way to get back home. It’s not like anyone would be waiting for me, so I’m not in a rush.
Alright..
Have a good day.
bye.
*He disappears*
Oh.
Alright-

*They looked at the orange, smiling slightly, taking another bite.*
Thank you.

*They seemed surprised.*

Its been.. a while..

Someone was walking through the woods, managing to stumble across Anshel's caben. (i really hope i spelled that right. Pretty sure I did, but-)
She seemed to move.. wrong, almost. They seemed human- but not quite. Extremely uncanny valley.
And each movement almost sounded like a porcelain doll's joints being moved- almost.
She knocked on the cabin door.
( @living-doll-offical )
*after a moment, opens the cabin door*
hello?
(You did ^^)
Hello. I.. believe I have gotten lost. I hadn't noticed I had gotten so far into the forest.
*Unless their face was actively moving, it looked painted on. They also seemed almost unfamiliar with the english language. Fluent, but.. awkward.*
Oh, well, that’s no good. Is there somewhere you’re looking to go? I could try to help you find it.
Not really- though.. I was told someone I used to know lived in a large building with a wall of fire around it. I'm not sure I believe that. But I've been keeping an eye out.
Mostly, though, I was hoping you would know the quickest way out of the forest?
Or a good clearing for reading?
*thinks, then shakes his head*
I’m afraid I don’t know of a large building with fire around it, but I’ll keep an eye out. Sorry. But I do know how to get out of the forest and good places to read, so it mostly depends on what you prefer to do more.
A good place to read, then.
*They adjusted their bag.*
I'm sure when I'd really like to, I'll eventually find a way out.
Okay!
*steps out of hys cabin, closing the door behind him*
Oh—silly me, I never introduced myself. I’m Anshel, and you are?
*They hesitated*
You can call me Jinthe. I am afraid I do not remember what my name is.. but Jinthe seems as good as any.
It is nice to meet you, Anshel.
*starts walking in a seemingly random direction*
Jinthe’s a nice name.
*smiles*
Pleasure to meet you too
*Follows close behind.*
Thank you. Anshel is as well.
I wasn't expecting to find a cabin out here. Did you build it?
*shakes his head*
Just repaired it. I found it when I first wandered into the area. It’s nice, isn’t it?
It is!
It seems nice and secluded, without being too far away from things one might need.
It is. And it serves as a perfect place for my work.
Oh? May I ask what you do?
I’m an alchemist.
*They didn't seem to recognize the word.*
What is an alchemist?
It’s.. goodness, how do I explain this.
*thinks*
It’s a type of scientist who focuses on chemistry and the metaphysical world, and often how the two interact. Sometimes it’s spiritual, most of the time it isn’t. Does that kind of make sense?
*They thought for a moment, then nodded.*
I think so. Thank you. That sounds really interesting!
it is! It’s a very unpredictable job
It seems like it!
Do you enjoy it?
I do! The unpredictability is the fun of it
I am glad you get to do something you enjoy!
You get paid for it?
*shakes hys head, then pauses*
Well- I transmute metal—I turn metals into other metals—so I do trade the gold I make in for money every so often. So I guess I do technically get paid. Just… not by anyone specifically
Oh! Very nice. Does it take very long to turn metal into other metal?
It can, depending on how familiar I am with the metal I’m working with and how much metal there is.
Can you turn other things into metal?
Like.. wood or bone-?
Or just metal into metal?
Just metal into other metals, as far as I’m aware, but I haven’t exactly tried turning other things into metal or vice versa.
Ah, cool.
Can you turn other things into different types of those things..?
Like.. wood into a more sturdy wood?
I.. have no idea. Ive never tested on wood.
*thinks*
but I can turn random food into human flesh!
Oh!
.. Did you figure that out because you were trying to, or..?
*quickly*
yes, yes, it was purposeful. I- I do realize how that sounds now, but it was to help someone.
Oh! That's good, then.
*nods. The forest begins to thin into an open field. Anshel gestures out into the clearing*
Viola! The perfect place to read!
*They looked around and smiled.*
It is! Thank you!
Of course! Well, I’ll be back off to my cabin then.
*gives Jinthe a little wave*
You’re always welcome to visit; my door is always open. It was lovely meeting you!
It was lovely to meet you, as well!
I'll definitely visit again.
Have fun reading!
*turns around, walking back into the woods*
Thank you!
*They waved, then sat against a tree and pulled out a book.*

It is! Thank you!
*shakes hys head, then pauses*

yes, yes, it was purposeful. I- I do realize how that sounds now, but it was to help someone.
Oh! That's good, then.
