So I just went with my buddy while he got a rib tattoo, and they hurt like a lot, so he’s over there grimacing and being a huge manbaby so I just reach over and grab his hand so he can squeeze it because I’m a good person who helps others

And he’s clinging to my hand like it’s a life preserver and I’m being me and talking about nonsense like Grimace from the McDonalds commercials and how R2D2 is always ready to throw hands, and whatever, and the artist keeps glancing over at me and I’m like do your tattoo bro I’ve got my buddy handled

But then I realize he’s like, looking over because he can’t tell if he’s seeing something or not, and I glance down and I see my rainbow scalemail bracelet, and how I’m talking to my buddy all fondly and I’m like stroking his arm like he’s a wounded animal, and right as it clicks in my head the tattoo artist asks in his most nonchalant voice possible, like intentionally bland, I’m just talking about the weather haha what do you mean voice:

“So, are you guys close?”

And my gay ass is over to the side internally screaming because yeah, I am gay, but like this is just me being a good bro and my buddy is COMPLETELY OBLVIOUS TO WHAT IS HAPPENING BECAUSE HE’S A GARBAGE STRAIGHT PERSON AND HE SAYS

“Yeah of course, that’s why I asked him to come”

SO NOW THE TATTOO ARTIST THINKS HE’S RIGHT AND HE HAS A GAY COUPLE GETTING A TATTOO AND MY BUDDY HAS NO IDEA AND I’M AWKWARDLY SITTING HERE LIKE SHOULD I STOP HOLDING HIS HAND??? So that tattoo artist is like “Cool man, that’s great. Good for you.”

So then my buddy is like can I get some water, and the guy comes back with one bottle of water and my buddy takes a drink and then hands it to me, and I’m like obviously he has to lay down and needs me to hold his water so I just hold it in my hand, but turns out he was offering me water, so he turns to me and is like Colton, drink some water, and I take a drink and my garbage lizard brain is like “You’re drink sharing in front of the tattoo artist, now he KNOWS he’s right”

So we’re talking about tattoos with the artist and I mention that I’m getting a tattoo in September and my buddy is like “Yeah I’m gonna go and hold HIS hand for that one haha” and the tattoo artist FUCKING SAYS “I mean, I should hope so”

I MEAN, I SHOULD HOPE SO

AND NO ONE ACTUALLY BROUGHT IT UP. I KNEW WHAT THE TATTOO ARTIST WAS THINKING BUT DIDN’T SAY ANYTHING TO CORRECT HIM. NOW WHEN MY BUDDY GOES BACK AND GETS HIS NEXT TATTOO IN THE FUTURE AND I’M NOT THERE HE’S GOING TO GO “OH WHERE’S YOUR BOYFRIEND”

i think what hurts about the p3 social links

is your scenes with them on march 3rd and march 4th

cause all of them make promises with you and to see you again in the future. to keep going with you by their side

whether that’s yukari promising to bring you with her to see her mom. or kenji promising to help you find a gf in the coming year. mitsuru promising that you’ll be there in her toughest times, and vice versa.

they all make promises that either directly involve you, or that came about because of you. along with this, they add on the fact that you’ll still be helping them and be their companions, their friends, maybe even their lovers (in the case of a few)

with the knowledge that the protagonist is dying, and that it begins to show (all of them make comments like “are you ok” or “you look sick, you should rest”), it makes it legitimately really fucking sad. they all make promises with you, only for you to die.

can you even imagine what that’s like?

imagine growing and becoming friends with a person. eventually, you make a promise to be with this person thick and thin. that you’ll always be connected, whether you two are friends, lovers, whatever

only to have them die two days later, for seemingly no reason

of course you see the heartbreak with your main party, but what about all your social link characters? what was their reaction?

would they even understand? do you think that they would’ve just thought he killed himself or something?

it fucks with me, especially considering it’s never solved with them

you get their promises, die, and are just left to imagine the fallout

what would S.E.E.S say when they walk up those stairs, only to see your dead body lying peacefully on aigis’s lap? what would they think?

and we won’t know. the true tragedy of the protagonists death is never shown to us, and it really just leaves it to the imagination. which really does wrench the heart somewhat

see here’s a big plot detail, that gives me another reason as to why i prefer p3 over p4

it’s in regards to the main characters and their significance

cause in both games, the protagonist is pretty played up and the parties often give praise of what they do in their respective games

but here, in p3, we see why the protagonist was so important to p3

cause he’s the catalyst to why everything began. he is the one who (inadvertently) set off the plot of the game, and led to S.E.E.S becoming what they became

since he carried ryoji inside of him, when he returned to the birthplace of both ryoji and tartarus, it had released the 12 shadows in order to reunite and form the nyx avatar, the appriser as ryoji puts it

and along with this, we also see the stories of ryoji and aigis, and shows why everything in the game happened. it’s all because of aigis

from this, we understand why she wanted to be so close with the protagonist. he’s carrying the threat she sealed away inside of him 10 years ago

in these fantastically done scenes, we get not only the backstory of ryoji and aigis and persona 3 in general, but context as to why the protagonist of p3 is so important

it contextualizes and makes prior events in the game make more sense (why aigis loved you so much, why you got your persona so easily, why you can do all this shit, etc)

but in p4, the protagonist has no connection to the games story and lore

he gets his persona first and can do all this cool shit just cause he can

no robot woman sealed the metaphysical concept of death inside him, he’s just a dopey weirdo

and when he shows up in p4, everyone wants to suck his dick

like the day he become friends with yosuke, he already shows blatant homo lust towards the protag

it’s just like that because of the tone of the game

which i guess works for some people, but for me, it feels a little unnecessary

p4 is a very feel good game, and that shows in nearly every aspect. but i dunno, if you’re gonna have your protagonist be treated like this all important figure, make it like p3

have him/her be essential to the plot and why it occurs, rather than some guy/girl who shows up and everyone already loves them no questions asked
