I am welcoming myself back
Today is the opening of my first solo show and is also the first day of spring, I jus wanna give deep thanks fr, like thereâs soo much to say about the hills and valleys I been thru getting to this point, but lemme just start in thanks. Today I open my heart to the world and Inshallah, I receive all the love we been pouring out back into our vessel.
DEFINITELY not made with loops on garage band and DEFINitely not trash :)
When I was 15 years old I made my first and only beat out of Pata Pata bc I love Mariam and my bully who I thought I was friends with commented this and I laughed But thatâs so fucking crazy he should be arrested
They canât fuckimg do that. Like they just cant fucking do that. This is where my mind is at now, I canât let this be without making action. Canât let this be without making action. Canât let this be.
Playing dress up in adores room. My afro hides my ears from mortals who wouldn't understand. I love my afro.

having small friendly interactions with strangers is so important for humanity
I was just reflecting on why I love the airport Literally thatâs our whole thing as humans is we need social interaction to survive
We can't forget one another.
It is February 3 and I am so tired.I've been harassed by MAGAts for being non binary (and ugly). Leftists (who should be my people) harassing me for staying on Meta or expressing my frustration with the people who didn't vote in the election. DMs from small business owners panicked about tariffs, saying I'm not upset enough. And now Canadians, who are understandably angry.
We're going to get through this, but we all need to take a minute to remember the humanity behind our screens.I hate to be that guyâŠbut we're never going to win the fight against fascism if we're all being jerks on the internet. Instead, we're just breaking into even smaller (and less effective factions) and just wearing ourselves out.
I feel like the chaos is coming in all directions in my life right nowâŠfrom people who I expect to be terrible to me (fine, they are never very clever anyway)âŠbut then also from people who want the same things (who are somehow crueler, maybe because they understand me more). I am sure many of you are experiencing similar situations.
And I get it: we're all tired and scared and angry and feel powerless.
Here's what we can do:
â "Think globally but act locally": It sounds cheesy, but it's real. Like, if you're worried about people going hungry, get involved with your local community fridge or food banks. Worried about fast fashion? Start a mending group (it can also be virtual). That impact is instant and meaningful.
â DON'T GET YOUR NEWS FROM SOCIAL MEDIA: Seriously, I've seen so much misinformation on social media over the last few weeks, often one kernel of truth presented in a misleading mannerâŠwhich leads to more fear.
â If you're here in the US, call and email your elected representatives as often as possible. This is something you can do easily, even in your pajamas!
I really don't care about NYFW and high fashion.
About to say something I kept a secret for years while working in fashion: I really don't care about NYFW and high fashion.
t feels good to say this âout loud.â While working in the industry, I felt ashamed of this because I assumed it just revealed that I was too poor and feral to be good at my job. It reminded me that I did not have the same background as my coworkers.
I really don't care about NYFW and high fashion. It never felt relevant to my life before working in fashion because the idea of âChanel on a trailer park budgetâ felt ridiculous to me (Btw, yes I did grow up in a trailer park). High fashion has always felt like a way to remind people with less money that they will never be good enough. And NYFW has been sort of the FLAGSHIP EVENT for reinforcing the racism, ageism, and fat phobia that permeates the entire fashion industry.
âFashionâ (and fast fashion) has all the bad -phobias and -isms built into it. In fact, it doesnât succeed if people arenât feeling bad about who they are. After all, âfashionâ is often sold to us as the cure for our problems: the right garment from the right brand will open doors socially, romantically, etc. I always come back to the Simpsons episode where Marge gets that pink Chanel suit at the outlet store.Â
If you've read this far, you might think that I hate clothes. But I actually love clothes and personal style. I am excited to get dressed every day because it is a fun and valuable creative expression. I have always found my style inspiration in the people around me (including my virtual online community). I love seeing how people mix things up, build outfits, and even tell stories about themselves via their clothing. That's way more interesting to me.Â
The slow fashion community really brings the innovation and creativity...from your proud outfit repeater photos and thrift finds, to the designers working to make interesting ethical clothing, to the upcyclers and vintage/secondhand dealers making something new out of things that already exist. What makes this even better is that slow fashion isn't just for a select group of people...it's for everyone. All of us can take part in it...which makes it the exact opposite of high fashion.Â
So maybe I was always destined to find my home in the slow fashion community?
Wow this resonates so much, I always feel embarrassed that I am not very tapped into nyfw bc I call myself a designer and I live in ny. Like literally today I forgot that nyfw started. And I really donât get why ppl say like oh itâs Copenhagen fashion week is better, It feels like a commodified experience. Annnnnnndddd Iâm realizing that only super rich ppl get invited!!! Like Iâm always embarrassed Iâm not invited to any shows bc I donât know the right people. But âknowing the right people is just a euphemism for being rich!!
