A new grocery opened up in Fort Lauderdale a few months ago, 17TH Street Whole Foods. For the residents that lived in downtown and south, it was a much needed addition to the chain. Previously, we would have to drive through tremendous traffic along the corridor of US1 and Sunrise Blvd to shop at Whole Foods. Not any more! The 17TH Street Whole Foods is a unique one, at that. This grocery is part of the newest luxury apartment buildings to be completed called Curv.
17TH Street Whole Foods
This store opened up on October 28th, 2020 and is the second store in the city of Fort Lauderdale. The grocer is located on one of the busiest sections in all of Fort Lauderdale. Apartment buildings with grocery stores has become a new trend and increase the value of the units. The ability to have a high-end grocery in the building that you live provides appeal. Publix is following suite with a Greenwise Marketplace in downtown Fort Lauderdale on Las Olas Blvd.
Curv
On top and around Whole Foods is the residences of Curv. This is a luxury apartment building on the corner of US1 and 17TH street. The units range from 748 to 1,603 square feet with rents starting from $2,000 per month. Amenities include a pool, private cabanas, outdoor kitchen, fitness center, yoga studio, pet grooming salon and electric car chargers. The amenities sound nice, but for these prices its a bit far from Las Olas Blvd and traffic noise must be highly noticeable. Especially on such a busy intersection.
If you are interested in living on or near 17TH Street Blvd, contact Gavin at McNeal Realty. With rent prices this high, consider purchasing! Check out some of these local Neighborhoods!

RainTree Riverwalk is the latest update on Marina Lofts. This project was set to be a 1000 unit apartment building. The project was troubled from conception. The design of the building was artistic, and edgy. The building would have looked like it was built with glass blocks and then broken in half. Design aside, the largest obstacle was the removal of a large Raintree. The proposed removal of the Raintree created backlash and protests. The final blow to the project would be a slowing in the new construction condo market later in 2015. Five years later, RainTree Riverwalk is the remedy to the controversy that surrounded Marina Lofts.
RainTree RiverWalk Fort Lauderdale
What was once a three tower plan has transitioned down to two towers and the design has been scaled back a little and it’s not as edgy. The new project calls for a 35-story tower with 434 apartments and a second 32-story tower with 350 apartments. The Rain Tree will remains and the complex will be renamed to RainTree Riverwalk. In addition to the apartments, the project will continue the efforts to revitalize the South side of the New River. The complex will add nearly 20,000 square feet of retail space for shops and restaurants.

12 Days Of Christmas Las Olas in downtown Fort Laudedale will officially replace the 2020 Christmas On Las Olas. There have bee a lot of changes in 2020 and a lot of “firsts”. This year, instead of the usual Christmas on Las Olas, there will be the 12 Days Of Christmas. This is to limit the exposure that people will have with each other during the holiday season this year. Christmas On Las Olas brought in the crowds and people were “bumper to bumper.” It’s hard to hold an event like that these days! So from December 1st to December 12th, 2020 there is going to be a set of smaller events that take place.
12 Days Of Christmas Las Olas
The plan of the event is to encourage social distancing while maintaining the event. So STARTING TOMOROW December 1st, the event will kick off at 6:30 pm on Las Olas Boulevard. Each and every night there will be a dazzling light show. The events of each particular night are a little more unclear. There hasn’t been a lot of information from the Las Olas Association about the individual nightly plans. Some things that we can expect are Santa Sightings, live entertainment, Elf Hunt, decorating contests, music, silent auctions and I’m sure a lot more.
I can’t wait to see what each night brings!

Eddie V’s Prime Seafood Fort Lauderdale
Eddie V’s Prime Seafood will be opening in early 2021. Located in the newest hotel to open up in downtown Fort Lauderdale, the Hyatt Centric. Would you expect a coastal town like Fort Lauderdale to have a lot of seafood restaurants? There isn’t all that many and especially in downtown Fort Lauderdale. The Lobster Bar and Grill is one of the few that exist and it hasn’t been open for a decade yet. Competition is coming for this high end Seafood Restaurant. Eddie V’s Prime Seafood will be opening up at 100 Las Olas Blvd. It’s a little further down from the action on Las Olas. If the food is excellent they will find and keep their customers. Like The Lobster Bar, Eddie V’s Prime Seafood is also a chain restaurant. A high end one, at that. They have nearly 30 location around the United States.
100 Las Olas
The newest building to open downtown, 100 Las Olas is open. Eddie V’s Prime Seafood restaurant will be the second restaurant to open in the building within the year. This will complete the retail space within this luxurious building. The building is now complete with Eddie V’s, Harborwood Urban Kitchen, Hyatt Centric and 100 Las Olas Condos. The 283 Hyatt Centric hotel guest rooms span levels 8-15. The hotel pool and amenities are located on the 8th floor. The Luxury Condominium units span from 16-46. The luxury condominium name is 100 Las Olas. Typical Residences are still available for purchase from the $900,000’s. The units range from a 1,500 square foot, 2 Bedroom, 2 Bathroom. The largest is a 2,964 square foot, 3 bedroom, 3.5 bathroom unit.
Penthouse Units – Levels 40-46 feature “Penthouse style” units that combine both residence A and Residence B together. These residences boast nearly 4,000 square feet under air and nearly 1,000 square feet of balcony living. Residence C on the 46th floor is also expanded with a 2nd level, making it a 2 story penthouse.

Las Olas Art Fair Resumes
The Las Olas Art Fair Resumes in downtown Fort Lauderdale after being canceled earlier this year. Like, every other event, the Art Fair was forced to close due to Covid-19. Six months later, its back! The Art Fair went off without a hitch, from what I can tell. This is a good start to restoring a sense of normalcy. I visited the Art Fair twice while the festivities were taking place. It’s fun to walk there and see the beautiful art work as well as the people enjoying being out again. I saw quite a few pedestrians walking away from the show with art work in tow. It must have been a success for the Artists and after being shut down for so long, a much needed sale. The real winner is the residents
The event had some rules put in place to make the event safe for the Artists’ and Attendee’s alike. Pedestrian traffic flowed East and West within the corresponding lane on Las Olas Blvd. Masks were also required, even thought the event is held outside. Everyone felt safe and most importantly, had fun! I look forward to other events on Las Olas Blvd in the near future like Christmas on Las Olas and the next Las Olas Art Fair event.

Halloween On The New River
Take a stroll down the Riverwalk just off Las Olas Blvd. Along the New River you will see a lot of boats. Small boats, medium boats and giant boats are docked all along the path! Some of the boats have been decorated in celebration of the Halloween Season! It’s always fun to see something different. If you’ve always wanted to see the real Pirates of the Caribbean, then look no further. The spirit is similar to that of the Hardrock Christmas Boat Parade. When the boats are decorated with Christmas lights and other festive decorations. There may not be a boat parade for Halloween, but this is about as close as you could get and I call it Halloween on the New River. Most of the Halloween spirit is on display across the street from The Las Olas Grand and The WaterGarden condominiums.
So, if you happen to be on Las Olas Blvd for a bite to eat or a drink than take a quick walk along the Riverwalk. You will see Skeletons sailing boats and Pumpkin boogey monsters upon the decks of the ships. A fun but spooky walk, indeed!

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text][/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Recently submitted and asking for support is the War Memorial Auditorium Panthers Proposal for the site. The renderings of this new structure look amazing and is a much needed face lift to the War Memorial Auditorium and Holiday Park as a whole. Some, may be concerned about the footprint that 2 additional ice arenas, lockers, shops and restaurants may have on the park. It’s not as significant as you think against the entire park itself. If you look at the images below, you can see the overall impact. In addition, look at the photos of the existing structure and surrounding area that would be impacted and you will see what I see. This is in major need of renovation and everything that surrounds this building is either not utilized, under utilized and poorly maintained.
The Panthers proposal if constructed will be a huge improvement to the Fort Lauderdale Community. From looking at the proposal submitted to Fort Lauderdale, I only see one issue with this complex and it’s the parking situation. There are 2 small parking lots on the South side of the building and one is fenced in and am to assume that will be for the Florida Panthers players. The nearest source of parking near the concession stands, soccer and football fields is a substantial walk, especially carrying with hockey equipment. I can only imagine the hike in mid August![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_column_text]Parking aside there are a lot more pros than cons to this proposal. The most obvious just being the revitalization of the War Memorial Auditorium while bringing more than just some expo events. If you frequent the park you will notice that there isn’t to many people there, especially during the summer months and that isn’t a big surprise given the heat. This will be a much needed indoor recreational facility for those brutally hot summer days.
I, for one am in favor of the Panthers proposal for the War Memorial Auditorium. The project along with the new parks and recreations bill that passed recently will be a major improvement to Fort Lauderdale and it’s residents quality of life.
