Always always always thinking of this quote from Dear Senthuran by Akwaeke Emezi
In hindsight, parents comparing you to other peoples' kids is a fucking hilarious level of lacking in self-awareness. Like the fuck you mean "why can't you just be like that other kid who's doing better than you?"
Like bitch you're asking your child why they won't act like someone who's been raised better?

Having to reblog this again for painfully obvious reasons.

kokobot is a (conditionally) HIPAA-breaking chatgpt data harvester that is owned by AirBNB and that i genuinely thought had been fully exposed and expunged years ago. it's that bad
If you are in your 20s and depressed I want you to know this: As you age, I promise, you will acquire tools and perspective that will open your world in ways you cannot imagine right now. You will find levels of contentment and joy you never thought possible. You will access a deep understanding and forgiveness of yourself that comes just from hanging out long enough in the same body, and that forgiveness will change everything. Also you may have a regressive depression so intense and long-lasting that it feels like a traumatic brain injury. don't freak out it's normal
people see the resilience others have cultivated but as a sign of strength and as a positive thing but don’t always know what it cost to become resilient in the first place, and that those negative things still can take a toll on people. so, hey, it was still unfair to had to go what you went through. maybe you don’t even feel like being resilient pays off what it cost you. im sorry if you had to carry this weight alone. im sorry that the only option was to tough it out. i hope things feel less heavy soon.
reblogging SPECIFICALLY for the End Note which is widely applicable
For any trans (or really any queer) kids who are struggling through this right now, I want you to know
This is not your fault,
you are not wrong,
it wouldn’t be fixed if you were just somehow a different person
Because this guy is right, love is unconditional and this type of parent only loves you on the condition that you are exactly what they want you to be
Reblogging this because it definitely didn't make me cry.
Ya know when people told me "when you're finally safe enough that you can leave survival mode and start to let go of and process your c-ptsd/trauma things are probably going to get really, really bad before they slowly start to get better" I thought that was reasonable. I did not understand that by "things are going to get bad" they meant "you're going to find yourself in the worst mental state of your entire life, but dw, that means it's working" and tbh I simply wish someone had been more clear.
Not letting these stay in the tags, damn. Let yourself be Goop.
it can be hard to leave a toxic environment, but you deserve to be safe.
Digital illustration of a young Asian woman sitting on a staircase in a green tank top and pants. Text reads, 'you deserve to be in an environment that brings out the softness in you -- not he survival in you.'
Walking switchbacks never ever occurred to me.
But I’m big on pacing myself. Taking frequent rest breaks, etc.
still waiting for someone to find me and say 'Those are not your parents. Your real parents are waiting for you.'
who else had a sad transition from “I must hide everything about me and keep my walls up and show no weakness” to “oh nobody cares to know me anymore”
One day you think: I want to die. And then you think, very quietly, actually I want a coffee. I want a nap. A sandwich. A book. And I want to die turns day by day into I want to go home, I want to walk in the woods, I want to see my friends, I want to sit in the sun. I want a cleaner room, I want a better job, I want to live somewhere else, I want to live.
We are the final arbiters of the love we receive.
