This new ACOTAR puzzle features a blue stone, a black box, and a spindle of thread.

As always, take this with a grain of salt, but this new Dread Trove Puzzle has me wondering, what are those things in the background?

Okay hello....👀 As @livywoohoo pointed out koschei tales uses egg reference where koschei's death is hidden and I used it in a theory before involving Elain. How Elain void and koschei might be connected. Bc apparently koschei's death is involved with the universe ending...and we know void is the being that existed before...destroy koschei's death...you destroy the universe? Feels a lot like void consuming everything.

My death is far off: on the ocean, on the sea, there is an island, on that island there is an oak, under that oak tree is buried a chest, in that chest is a hare, in that hare – a duck, in that duck – an egg. And in that egg is my death.”

Many academics understand this “nestling doll” structure to represent a vision of the universe. Thus, the seas and oceans represent water, the island is the land, the oak is the plants, the hare is the animals, the duck is the birds. The oak also represents the “tree of the world.”

In other words, the only way to kill Koshchei is to destroy the cosmos. This may be why he never really dies, but always comes back to haunt the heroes of the tales.

And distaff....I HAVE BEEN SO OBSESSED WITH ELAIN HAVING A SPEAR BUT ALSO A DISTAFF. in norse mythology seidr magic users use distaff to control their magic and I talked about it in this post.

Seidr (pronounced “SAY-der;” Old Norseseiðr, “cord, string, snare”[1]) is a form of pre-Christian Norse magic and shamanism concerned with discerning the course of fate and working within its structure to bring about change, which was done by symbolically weaving new events into being.[2] To do this, the practitioner, with ritual distaff in hand,[3] entered an ecstatic trance in order to be able to interact with the world of spirit.

As an adjective, the term distaff is used to describe the female side of a family. The corresponding term for the male side of a family is the "spear" side.

And I have been theorising for ages that maybe...Narben is a spear and Elain as made fae can find it. 👀

Like Freya, Frigg is depicted as a völva, a Viking Age practitioner of the form of Norse magic known as seidr.

In Norse mythology, the goddess Frigg spins clouds from her bejewelled distaff in the Norse constellation known as Frigg's Spinning Wheel (Friggerock, also known as Orion's belt).[6]

As you can see above quotes Frigg(Freya) uses distaff and they are völva(seer) in Norse mythology. And there is a certain Norse poem about a völva....descrbing the beginning, the end and the rebirth of cosmos....as if connecting to Koschei's death being described as the end of cosmos? As if Sarah took these two together maybe will use them together? 👀👀👀

It tells the story of the creation of the world and its coming end and subsequent rebirth, related to the audience by a völva addressing Odin. It is one of the most important primary sources for the study of Norse mythology. The poem is preserved whole in the Codex Regius and Hauksbók manuscripts while parts of it are quoted in the Prose Edda.

Okay, I just went down the rabbit hole with this one, but I am still stuck on this damn distaff and how much meaning it portrays in this image. First, there is so much historical context for distaffs being used as a weapon by women -> so, so fascinating, and someone actually wrote their whole dissertation on this linked here.

@merymoonbeam already discussed this in her posts and reblogs, but I want to emphasize again how the didstaff could symbolize more than just a weapon. It could represent agency and the act of weaving together the threads of time and narrative (hello, Elain Archeron). The linked dissertation describes the distaff almost as an instrument of fate itself, which aligns with Mery's points. This makes it an ideal tool or weapon for someone like Elain, who is poised to explore fate and cosmic threads, a weaver of hope through the void?!

And because I can't resist exploring further: the weaponization of the distaff serves as such a potent FU to the patriarchy and a strong symbol of domestic authority equals true power. As explained in the dissertation linked above, the distaff appears as a domestic tool for virtuous, ordinary women, but when depicted in a joust-like motif that pierces, unseats, and claims a male figure, it becomes an overt symbol of women's empowerment. (There is also a brief mention of 13th-century motifs depicting a woman chasing away a fox with a distaff. 👀)

Sarah J Maas CHD interview + me looking for any scrap of a hint for ACO6 plot: What poured out of me was this, and it poured out very quickly. I was in Montana this summer, and I think there's some kind of energy vortex around Big Sky because I got there, and it clicked. It all came out of me...And as I started writing this in like this, like Montana, like energy vortex, like it came out of me in a way that surprised me.... I decided I wasn't going to approach this project from a traditional format of a book. And what if this story, like, what if this book was really long? What if it took me more than a thousand pages to tell the story that needed to be told, the arc that I wanted to create from...start to finish? What if that took a long time? Like, what if that took beyond the constraints of a single volume?

I should clarify: what I was really trying to say in my last post is this story/maasverse (ACOTAR, Crescent City, and to some extent TOG) Elriel is the key.

The story has been building up to THEM. They are going to bring a lot of things to light in a few short months…

I I know I might be biased as an Elriel, but I genuinely believe the plot has been gradually leading up to... Elriel?! There’s definitely something unfolding with them specifically that ties into the larger story. Eventually, I think everything will fall into place, giving us all a shared aha moment.

Now THIS is some good potential foreshadowing:

Nuala and Cerridwen have been around since acotar, but we know little about them other than they’re half-wraith, work for Rhys, and were trained by Az, but now we know they’re also Elain’s friends. They bake together, cook together, and now possibly train together?

Elain is stealthy and Feyre proclaims she may have Azriel beat at secret-keeping. Who better to have been training her than the spies of the NC who befriended her? I can’t wait to see more of E&N&C friendship and a possible spy-Elain arc!!

Very inspired by @lovelydreamshadows post here. All these subtle "wolf" hints, sprinkles, and crumbs (as well as having just finished Women Who Run With The Wolves) have me thinking:

Are the wolfish hints a hint for Elain and her journey?

Women are often associated with wolves. Wolves aren't inherently feminine, but I think this association exists because both wolves and women have long been misunderstood (like Elain). In the book I just finished, Women Who Run With the Wolves, the author introduced the idea of the wild woman. I immediately thought: ELAIN.

She describes the wild woman as deeply intuitive, creative, instinctual, and fiercely connected to herself. Like a wolf, the wild woman knows when to rest, when to protect, when to leave, when to trust, and when to fight. While we haven't fully gotten Elain's POV yet, I can imagine Elain is well-balanced in this way.

What's the catch? The tragedy of the wild woman archetype? This wild nature exists in all of us, but many women were taught to just forget it. To hide it or tame it, something to tuck away or allow others to make choices for us. Historically, women who trusted their intuition, lived independently, practiced herbal medicine, sometimes remained unmarried, or challenged authority were often labeled as wild, dangerous, hysterical (boring), or even witches. Wolves were treated similarly (I could go on, but I feel like we all have heard the folklore stories about the big bad wolf).

Elain's story mirrors this archetype so well. People have been using her as a pawn since she was a child, deciding who and what use she has, what she should be doing, when she should be protected versus when she should have a backbone. She was turned fae against her will, labeled as delicate, then a seer. She was claimed as someone's mate and told that's her fate-no choice. That's the catch; no one has asked her. Asked her what she wants. Elain doesnt lack the wild woman archetype; she just hasn't been given time and safety (and her books) to claim it.

Elain's journey will be about Choice. Choosing who to trust, when to leave, what to grow, and what to break.
