why do we need coins in this game, what do we do with them. they're basically useless
It’s pretty easy to ignore exaggerative tones, teasing sentiments characteristic of Kuroo, though time has told that he really is a kinder person despite some trouble he stirs up. Rather, what’s more catching of Kenma’s attention is the way he seems to halt with his eyes on the picture, cutting off even mid-sentence, and it only takes a moment for him to decide he doesn’t really care to watch his friend’s expression turn to disbelief. He’ll wait for that reaction to pass given the chance, thanks. It’s not malicious surprise, but he already knows full well that he’s not really the type one would expect any idol to even give the time of day, never mind being engaged to.
Instead his gaze traces in an arc along the floor, finding nothing in particular that he can pretend to have become interested in, and instead peering back to fiddle with his phone while he replies. A quiet, indifferent seeming agreement is provided for his commentary about Kenma’s waifu, and the expressions of the older go largely ignored by Kenma. Well, it’s weird, but it would be a lie to say something like that hadn’t come to mind already. Its only after the congratulations, (which also feels kind of weird, to be congratulated on who you’re assigned to,) has passed that he brings his wide eyes back up to mull over an answer to give him.
“She… has a lot of energy.” Which is a given, really; Honoka is practically the main protagonist and leader of μ’s. That doesn’t make it any less overwhelming at some points to someone as comparatively dull as Kenma. “Her birthday hasn’t passed yet, and I guess I’m still staying with Ene, so it’s just an engagement. She’s nice, though. She wants to do lots of things together.” There’s a short pause as he considers the topic, but he gives a shrug after a moment. “It’s not a big deal, this happens a lot - getting reassigned… Except for you, I guess…”
At least his comment isn’t meant as a bad thing. For someone who deals with people as well as Kenma, he’d willingly trade his position in a second, but that kind of possibility is doubtful. At least if he’s been set to someone nice like Honoka, it’s not as bad as it could be.
Naturally, Kenma isn’t very receptive to his teasing -- he’s always been that way, but beneath it all, both of them know that Kuroo never means much by it. It’s almost instantaneous, too -- Kuroo’s comprehension of the reason why Kenma had chosen to point that out first. In nearly all aspects of what he does (aside from video games, which only require furious movement of the thumbs), while Kenma’s analytical mind isn’t one to be reckoned with, the amount of energy needed to sustain a certain activity is quite Up There, on Kenma’s list of factors to consider.
"What can I say? Being a single dad has its perks, I suppose.” He finds himself using expressions that he’d never thought he’d hear himself use, but those are the cards that life here handed him, it seems. In a way, the novelty of using such a phrase to refer to himself is somewhat thrilling. Regardless, it’s a quiet household; not that he truly minds it, though. “But, having Ene inside your phone seems pretty handy. Like having a portable mom, or something.” Kuroo lifts a finger, to tap at Kenma’s phone screen -- wonders if Ene would appear, if he did that.
“Anyway... You said her birthday was coming up. Are you going to get her a gift?” He leans forward, clearly curious in figuring out Kenma’s plans, if they exist. (Pondering, he’s more on the side that they don’t exist yet, but Kenma never ceases to surprise him.) “You should get her something nice -- something that conveys your feelings, you know,” he adds, in a tone that seems far too knowing, one corner of his lips quirking upwards, in a smile.
“While I know Honoka isn’t your #1 favorite idol, you’re still fond of the whole idol unit, aren’t you? It’d kind of be like a fan present.” His head tilts to the side, as he continues, thoughtfully. “--except: you already live with her, so getting the present to her would be pretty easy, already.”
