DnD inspired me to draw this. ♥

Greet your Audience, Deimos. (Alternate title: The Truth Hurts) In this drawing I wanted to tackle the contrast in how the dark elf warlock Deimos is viewed.

On the Material Plane ( = the 'normal world') Deimos is respected and celebrated, him being one of the famous heroes of the Grey Wardens. (He's also just having so much fun travelling the world with these heroic friends! :D) However, in the Nine Hells when he's with his warlock patron Vannatir it's a completely different situation. Being loved by an archdevil has thankfully also been fruitful: giving Deimos the magic powers he always wanted.

Extra: I found this drawing difficult to finish. I would've usually turned this drawing around. Have the foreground be the usually confident Deimos, while in the background the other side of his warlock pact is secretly shown. But now I've done it the other way around. The warlock pact side IS the foreground here. And I'm not sure yet if I like the finished result that way. But I'm proud I finished it anyway! And I hope this drawing at least does communicate the contrast that I wanted to show.

It is so fun when a DnD scene gets intense and personal. So I wanted to draw that! :D

This Dream scene started with Ludek going: "Oh, it's /that/ type of dream." Deimos: "You dream about me more often?" Ludek: "Oh well.. yes.. but you know.. you and other elves…"

Since the dangers to the Material Plane in our DnD campaign are getting closer, Deimos has to start creating his web of safety.

My/Deimos' goal for the Dream spell was to get a secret phrase to Ludek: 'Time waits for you.' Deimos instructed that if this phrase is ever used, then Ludek needs to STOP whatever it is that he is doing. Deimos gave a few examples. If Ludek is at that moment talking with someone, Stop Speaking. If he's attacking someone, Stop Fighting. Ludek was a bit hesitant to agree, but Deimos promised that in return if he ever uses this phrase he will explain everything afterwards.

Deimos then said: "Ludek, it's better if we just stay friends."

Yoooo look at my DnD party! :D So happy to draw them all again. ♥ Our Dungeons and Dragons campaign is now truly becoming a classic hero story! Victory!

It is interesting to me how the story shifts when seen from a specific character's perspective though.

For my own dark elf warlock Deimos, the in-game story is like this:

A runaway warlock gets lucky as he stumbles upon this starting-up party.

Only five days later his warlock patron Vannatir finds him. (!!! x_____X)

Thankfully Deimos persuades his patron to let him stay with this powerful group. (Absolutely nerve-wracking moment!! x_____X Persuading an archdevil is not easy!)

Vannatir added a condition; Once the party is strong enough, missions need to be carried out on his orders.

Deimos truly hopes he can stay with the Grey Wardens as long as possible.

I just want to say how happy and flattered I am with this message. Thank you! I have a bit more of arranging to do before I can open the shop again x____X The shipping costs have become a lot more expensive due to the current state of the world it seems. I told myself I wasn't going to take the Meta Magic feat for my warlock Deimos. Because the GM warned about consequences if I do. But I really couldn't resist to have this powerful upgrade!

So new update! Deimos/I now accepted this new Meta Magic gift/alteration from warlock patron Vannatir. This drawing is about the moment where Deimos got the Meta Magic feat unlocked in-game.

Usually in our DnD campaign when a Vannatir scene occurs the other players leave the table so that they don't know what Deimos and Vannatir discussed. But this time the other players stayed at the table as this scene was happening. I was genuinely like "It's normally not THIS eldritch!! It is more like court intrigue usually! Not tentacles. ;____; I swear!!!"

Vannatir: "This is but a taste of sharing in all of my power for our eternity."

Discord's new Zodiac Leo profile effect looks like a complete rip-off of Vannatir. Like they lowkey stole his entire look

Ohhhh I looked it up, and I do see what you mean. I don't think Discord truly made a Vannatir rip-off tho, it's just quite similar. But of course thank you so much for looking out for me! ^^ I'm actually very flattered that you instantly think of my work when you see such a professional set released by Discord!

In a DnD campaign it's such a highlight when another player-character tells their backstory. With the deepgnome Ijech, it was haunting how this part of her past is becoming so relevant again in the present.

I called this comic 'the buried past'. Ijech's player appreciated the double meaning. She also explained that this moment meant a lot to her. Deimos hugging Ijech has now only strengthened her resolve for her Paladin oath 'Protect Deimos'.

This recent Paladin oath to the drow/dark elf Deimos being a bit more complicated than Deimos first anticipated. (Ijech is by now a Bard/Paladin multiclass.)

would you ever do pdf versions of the zines? i genuinely would pay so much to see their story but i missed the zine run, and i'm absolutely obsessed from the art i've seen so far

Hi! Thank you so much for the interest in the zines and my story. I actually have good news! I am planning a re-run of Volume 1 and Volume 2 of my zines in April. ♥

I'm really excited since it will be run with a lot more. (the Deimos & Vannatir enamel pins will be back as well :D)

It's really amazing to me that I get to release this. It started as just little projects for myself, so that I could have these zines on my bookshelf, and have a set of matching pins for these 2 elves for on my bag. ♥ For the zines I wanted to see my DnD campaign drawings and comics not only through social media but with all the pieces in a logical order to tell the whole story.

It means SO MUCH to me that others want to read it as well, so thank you! ♥ ♥ ♥ I'll keep posting here with more info! (I also update through stories on my instagram, it's LizaOverlord as well there. ♥)

Hi! Thank you so much for your sweet compliment about my art. That means a lot! About commissions: I am still thinking about it. I would absolutely love to work on (official) projects at some point but I am now still mostly enjoying just experimenting with my art. So for now no commissions. For this Vannatir and Deimos drawing I again went for a more sketch-like style, I really hope you like it! I'm personally happy with the effects by keeping my test-shapes in the final piece.

About the art: The vibe for this character is 'Power but at a cost’. I wanted to portray Deimos as powerful but still a bit playful as well. I’ve been studying a lot of videogame art like from Genshin Impact and also League of Legends. So I really hope that I’ve been able to show what I’ve learned from that in this piece! ♥

Hi! :D Thank you so much! I'm honoured to hear you're curious! I release my zines in waves. So I am definitely looking into another suitable moment for a reprint of the zines. The zines are a way for me to tell the story in a more chronological way + with connecting text between each comic and illustration, and I have 2 volumes by now. ^^

Volume 1 is pretty much a character introduction and more about Deimos and Vannatir's backstory.

Volume 2 is focused on a whole chronological arc of the campaign with also flashbacks to the past/backstory.

Deimos: "Do you trust me?" (I mean, would YOU trust Deimos?)

I LOVE the Fly spell so much. The way it gives so many options in the game, the way Deimos crafts these temporary magical wings based on how he sees others. The way it gives me the opportunity to draw a flying scene, just AAAA!

Story: Deimos had a gift for Ijech. He asked her to follow him all the way up to the roof. There he presented a new page in his warlock spellbook: 'The Gift of the Protector' Deimos explained, whoever signs their name here will get a second chance when they are defeated in battle. Ijech was about to sign the spellbook but Deimos suddenly moved the book back a bit.

Deimos: "Before you sign, this gift comes at a great cost for myself. So I want you to promise you will use this to protect me."

Then!! It turned out that Ijech's player had been planning a paladin multiclass for a longer time! She started making a paladin oath "I swear to the Grey Wardens that I will protect them-"

When I heard this.. I/Deimos suddenly got this truly greedy feeling. So Deimos interjected.

Deimos: Don't swear it to them, swear it to me."

Ijech agreed, changing the oath to come down to "Protect Deimos". Then she signed her name in Deimos' spellbook. The next morning Ijech woke up with paladin powers from the Oath of Protection. (!!!! She is now a multiclass bard and paladin!)

For this drawing I challenged myself to keep it more sketch-like. And… I think I like the result? :D

Story-wise: This drawing is showing the past and present of the elves Vannatir (high elf) and Deimos (dark elf). I wanted to fully show the contrast of their current warlock pact situation compared to their happy past within one drawing.

In the final moments of the Dream spell, Deimos gave the control to deepgnome Ijech while he was leaving. And then just WOW. She sure surprised me!

I / Deimos had been so confident while having control over the Dream. Describing the mansion Deimos had conjured up, that looks out over the dark elf city Menzoberranzan. I of course had time to plan all of this secretly. >D And then Ijech's player responded with such a master move, that also really got me thinking.

I had no idea this little gnome would ever even think about being a dark elf/drow??

Ijech is.. becoming such a mystery.. x____X She has said before in the DnD campaign that drow are 'beautiful but also dangerous', so Deimos is always a bit like "yes yes thank you 😏" But now I'm all: What does it mean!!
