New story “Big Teeth” just released in Palooka Magazine! . . . #writinglife #writeblr #writersofinstagram #writing #reading #bookstagram #writer #writers #book #shortstory #fiction #literary #litmagazine
1. What made you start writing for the first time?
I don’t really know. I was so young. I think I liked the idea of storytelling. As a kid, I loved being read to and when I was old enough, I wanted to be the one telling the stories. My early stories were more pictures than words. I liked The Call of the Wild as a kid and most of my stories when I was maybe six or seven were about similar dogs in wild landscapes. I can’t say really what made me begin, I just have always been writing.Â
2. If you could only write about the ocean, the forest, or the desert for the rest of your life, which one would you pick?
Probably the ocean, but I can’t say for sure. I write about forests too. Right now, my focus is a swamp (a bit of a land/water mix). I like the ocean though. I went through a phase where I only wanted to write about fish - I’m almost ashamed to say that was a little over a year ago.Â
3. Would you ever write a memoir?
Maybe. I wouldn’t rule it out. I don’t know yet what it would be about, but there are some things in my life I’d like to one day write about and memoir might be the best way to do it. In the meantime, I’m sticking with fiction.Â
4. Do you like writing by hand, or writing with a computer?
I love to write by hand. I type my novel, but I do a lot of just drabbles and scenes in my notebooks. I like to keep a notebook on me most of the time if just for that.Â
5. Would you rather be popular among many readers, or unpopular, but loved by critics?
When I was maybe eleven or twelve, I used to tell people I wanted to be Mary Shelley when I grew up. I’m not Mary Shelley, and I’m happy with who I am today, but what I think it came down to is that I wanted to write something that could be thought about, fussed over, studied by kids in classes. Now, I think I just want to write something that will be enjoyed by someone - whether it be by handful of readers or a critic, I don’t really care.Â
6. Do you listen to music while you write? What is the best writing music?
7. Do people you’ve met find their way into your writing?
All the time. I wouldn’t ever tell them that, but I see people I know in my work all the time. It might not be them exactly, but a version of them, pieces of who they are reflected back in fictional characters.Â

Hi Is your friend from @notwhatisay okay? I realized she hasn't posted in a while and was concerned
Oh, you’re too sweet! Nothing to worry about. She’s on hiatus at the moment. She’s one of my best friends and she just got news that she’ll be taking a job in Japan in a few months so she had to switch gears and start figuring out all of that.Â
For the same reason, she hasn’t been able to help me much with answering questions, though, for my sake, I hope we get her schedule worked out and she’ll be back. Luckily, it’s all been good and exciting things keeping her busy and offline.Â

Anonymous asked: “How do I use semicolon? Is it the same as period or comma? Thanks. Sorry.”
Semicolons are not the same as a period or comma. It’s sort of an in-between. There are proper places to use it and it’s often misused. There’s actually an article I love that is about semicolon usage that is fantastic and comical, illustrated, and brief, “How to Use a Semicolon.” Check it out.Â
