Empty Flats || Abby and Becker
“They’re… Important suggestions.” He’s tired, but Abby has a habit of making him calmer, cheerful— no matter how late it might be in the night. He’s glad to have her, glad to have the entire team. Even if sometimes it might seem like babysitting. He notes such a thing with humour now; he never used to.
The channels show what he expects; horror film, horror film, foolish reality shows that aren’t really anything close to reality at all. But, who knows? They might even come across something that’s almost worth watching. As long as Abby’s comfortable.
He reaches forward, places his mug on the coffee table and chances a quick look toward her, “He loves you, you know? He does.”
It’s nothing more than an honest reminder— she knows, of course she does, but Becker just wants to make certain she hears it, even if it’s not from Connor himself. And that is all he’ll say on the matter.
“——Are we chancing a horror film tonight, or something else equally as useless?” A gentle smile. He’s not a fan of horror; figures he gets enough of it at the ARC.
"Hmm. Important suggestions, of course. I don't really listen, so," That was a stretch of the truth. For the most part, Becker had a good head on his shoulders and is certainly the reason the team is alive now, so she did listen to his rules most of the time. Just not the 'shoot first' policy.
Being at Becker's was almost like being at a sibling's flat or a best friend's flat, it felt like home and there was a comfortable silence and unspoken rules that were followed by both. She too places her mug down and curls up in the blanket on the couch, staring at the television, watching channels flick by.
She hears his words and nods. She knows Connor loves her, she just also knows that he loves work and puzzles and Cutter. This whole thing--it's all for Cutter. "Yeah, I know."
"Equally as useless." Horror films were...unappealing to her. Despite her tough attitude, horror usually sent chills to her spine and she'd rather not look like an idiot in front of Becker. "Reality is the best, I think. It's so stupid,"
Empty Flats || Abby and Becker
Becker nods slowly, for he understands— at least to a certain extent, anyway. He’s had many a sleepless night both in the past and in the present; he’s certain he understands just how irksome and exhausting it can be.
Taking a sip of his tea, he watches her for a moment. Having never truly been one for particularly long discussion, at least not the ones where he shouldn’t necessarily have a strong opinion, Becker hopes that his company helps; his own home here is not empty. Abby’s alright. Though, a certain part of him wishes he could offer something more; but the situation is complicated, he knows that. He can keep them alive and in one piece through the day, but when it comes to such things as this, it is not his field.
“——If you wanted to watch crappy telly too, I’m all for it.” He quirks a smile, lifting one side of his lips as he sits himself in that chair heavily, “Oh, and my lectures aren’t boring— I wouldn’t even call them lectures.”
Becker is quiet, much more quiet than the other ARC members and certainly quieter than friends she had before. She doesn't know if she appreciates the fact that he doesn't jump in with five million suggestions on what she should do or despises it because she's sure this is the one thing she doesn't know how to handle. She's used to not caring whether or not a man is paying attention to her...but now that she's in love, it's all different.
Regardless, it's nice to have someone there. Someone who is quiet and who will let her figure things out for herself.
"They're lectures," Abby reassured him, a laugh escaping her mouth before she excitedly grabs the remote. "Crappy telly is my favorite, as you probably already know,"
Empty Flats || Abby and Becker
”You always wake me. I’m learning to live with it.” He offers her a sideways glance, his words are in evident jest, his eyes show his care as he walks past her and into the kitchen.
Becker worries about her, perhaps more than she might realise. Abby’s been through an awful lot— Connor too, of course, but he has himself occupied with his work. Too occupied in the Captain’s opinion, for there have been too many days in which Becker’s seen no sign of him. He’s worried for the both of them.
He waits for the kettle to boil in silence, occasionally chancing a glance through the doorway to where she it sat. A sigh leaves his lips, and he tilts his head to the side to crack his neck. He knows how she likes her tea, and so he’s back out in the living room before too much time has passed, offering her mug to her and seating himself on the arm of the chair opposite her.
”Are you alright—?” He asks the same question each time, offers her a moment, a chance to talk for as long as she wishes; if she wishes to talk at all. Becker knows that she might not, and he’s not one for pushing her.
"Got to keep you up on my toes, don't I?" Abby replied. "Quick reaction times are key in this organization. I think you said that once in one of your boring lectures," A teasing remark, really. Becker has a good head on his shoulders and is certainly one of the few reasons this team is still alive.
She wished she could say she knew the captain wasn't worried for her, mostly because she thinks he should have a day without worry rather than being in control of everyone's lives and least of all her's. She could hold her own and most of the time; she was okay. Not great, but not terrible.
"I'm alright. Connor just won't answer his phone," She's sure he's noticed because while he was boiling the tea, Abby was actively looking at her mobile seeing if maybe he had sent her a message or something. "Couldn't sleep in the flat. Too empty."
