Bees absconded on August 8th, 2016. It was heartbreaking. Many more ants than normal. Turns out the hive was overrun with wax moths, and because its a new hive, they weren't strong enough to get rid of all the pests. I dealt with the situation and removed the empty combs for 6 hours.
My bees! When i checked on them a while ago I noticed some ants behind the window block. There are also ants in the top of the hive, not connected to the honey spot. I researched how to get rid of the ants and found i should sprinkle cinnamon and plant mint! We have mint in the front yard so I think thats a beautiful idea. The oils in the mint help keep the ants away but the bees love it!
After putting some cinnamon down, a lot more bees came out of the hive & buzzed around. Maybe i disturbed them a little? Ill do a little more research.

July 9th 2016- quilting, 4 hours Ash and I pinned fabric triangles in pairs and then sewed. We came up with a good sew-iron method: one sews 10 triangles to make 5 squares while the other irons their seams on the squares. Both of us were busy busy busy. Ashley's mom walked by and commented on how quiet we were... We were so focused! Ash refreshed me on how to use a sewing machine.

June 29th- 3 hours, Quilting Finished cutting squares and triangles with ashley! Also did the border :) so glad ashley was able to help me with math and measuring! I love the patterns together :) she used her prior knowledge to help us avoid errors in terms of sizing and measurement.
June 27th 2016- 5 hours Purchased fabric with ashley from JoAnns, chose our pattern, ironed, learned how to use a roller cutter and ... For me, a ruler :// cutting is the most important part and precision is key. I messed up with the ruler so all my squares are 1 inch shorter than they should be (oops!) took a lot longer than expected! I hope it turns out warm and cozy :)

4.22.16 5 hours Watched videos and watched Mr. Nathan put his bees in the hive. I helped a little bit too, and then made bee food. Then Rachael and I put our bees in the hive! It was raining so we had to rush in between storms in order to keep the bees dry!
Workout goal: do something 5/7 days a week
Saturday (3.2.16) zumba for 1 hr 15 min. Super challenging because i hadn’t done anything since swim season besides run just a little. Jessica joined me.
Monday (3.5.16) 1 hour 30 min Zumba again! I went with my mom, jess, and met up with wilson. The class was so hype. People who knew the dance would go up front with big smiles on their faces and join the instructor.
Tuesday (3.6.16) water circuit for 1 hour I had always seen old ladies do this and thought it looked super easy. Boy way i wrong. You can make it as challenging, or as easy, as you want. It was mainly strength work, rather than aerobic. My dad may start doing it.
Wednesday (3.7.16)- weights with wilson. 1 hour She taught me form and such.
Friday (3.9.16) walked with alex, 1 hour Also met his mom. That sure got my heart rate up while walking before hand (nerves). does that count for anything?
Saturday (3.10.16)- swimming (400, treading water for about an hour) This was at my lifeguard certification class. What a day.
Sunday (3.11.16) walked with alex, 1 hour. Bees hive and stone transportation, .5 hour. Explored my backyard. Walked in the neighborhood. Carried bee hive and large stones to back yard (there are many steps involved in this process) also, alex and i made a deal. Because ive gained 20 pounds this year (oops) im trying to lose weight. For every pound i lose, alex is going to try and gain a pound in muscle. We shall see how this goes lolol.
I meant 4.??.16 on all previous things. Oops.
Thursday 4.14.16 Personal Trainer (2 hours) Wilson, Mrs. Baritell, Ashley and I, all did our first day! Quite difficult, but because it was strength, i felt so energized and ready for some cardio after. I ran a mile and then did 5 min of cycling. Very fun!
4.21.16 Personal Training 1 hour, walking 1 hour
i learned not to eat yogurt before a workout. Afterwards i went on a walk with ms debra and alex.
3.9.16 3 hours For an hour, rachael and i worked together to assemble the slats and set up the hive, as well as watching videos to help us set up the hive correctly. It also helped us rekindle our friendship, because we had drifted apart due to busy lives and stress. After the hour, rach had to go to lax, and so later that night, i continued to nail slats. I accidentally broke one and freaked out. Then, after realizing we got extra brads, i nailed the broken slat back together. I thought that was some food problem solving on my part.
2.18.16, 1.5 hours Rachael and I lined the slats for the hive with wax so the bees will create straight lines in the hive. It took a lil while to coat them enough with wax.
Dive #4 & #5
So! Dive practice number four: i got a lot closer with the millbrook divers (lily alex and jack) i worked on my front dive but couldnt get it.
Dive practice 5: i improved my front dive and learned to do a front flip! I even did a “whip” -i think it was called- on my very last flip, meaning i made no splash. All i needed was to keep my arms down and stay a little closer to the board, and i would have gotten a 5 :) made friends with sterling, adam, brianna, and helped abby get her back dive. So much fun. I love dive.
Swim practice update
My ingrown toenail has been irritating me a lot to the point swimming is not working. I got out and did dryland. 4 sets of 50 russian twists, a minute plank and 15 v ups. Then i did wall sits and abs with Sammy. It was really good & I wanted to go for a run after. Lawless thinks its hilarious how i can’t kick to save my life. My arms are the only things propelling me through the water. Lawless is such a kind and funny coach.
I painted some more to release some of my pent up emotion. I feel like I'm going crazy. 2 hours (the wall paint was difficult to work with & the water color was super detailed. I also did 2 watercolors, but only one pic)
Painting- 1 hour 30 min Blind Contour in pencil, then used water color, then traced with pen or sharpie.
