They're older than Florida. The Floridian peninsula is the solidified runoff of the Appalachians that got caught on some coral. It's why we're like this, I think. they began forming during the Ordovician and finished forming during the Permian (the Appalatchians were formed by a couple of different Orogenies)(an Orogeny is a Mountain Building event)(these were the Taconic, Acadian, and Alleghenian Orogenies)
