The last episode of HBO GIRLS (Sit-in) had the perfect closing credit song and is a great example of smart, beautiful music supervision that creates viral marketing for the musician.
some spoilers about the episode below:
The episode is about a LTR break up. It's one of the more realistic episodes with a somber, quiet demeanor and filmed in 1 location with hand held cameras. Lena sums up the plot of the episode in the video below when she talks about the break up: "There isn't a correct answer, all there is is just the reality that things change and even the most beautiful moments in your life vanish into the past."
The closing credit song, "Shiver" by Lucy Rose, is a strong, dynamic part of the last scene. In the scene, Hannah is alone in a NYC storage unit building that seems to stretch on forever. There are no lines, so the viewer can focus on the song and listen to the lyrics which perfectly sum up the episode. The song is soft, simplistic and the lyrics are relatable to anyone that has been through a break up. This music supervision job really impressed me - well done Manish Raval!
The HBO GIRLS Twitter page gave out information on the closing credit song yesterday, surely because people were asking about it. So far, there are over 1 million views of the music video on YouTube. I'm sure it will grow rapidly!
I moved!
FINALLY.
I can FINALLY say I no longer live with my PARENTS! I've officially moved to Brooklyn in not the nicest neighborhood for not the nicest price, but I am officially independent. However, now I need a job so I have begun the long, tedious application process. This blog is mentioned on my resumé (resuméS actually...I have so many different resumes). I've realized I haven't posted in this thing in a long time and I do miss it, so I'm vowing to start again!
First song to end my 1.5 year music blogging hiatus: Underwater by Rae. I've mentioned Rae in a few of my posts. I interned for her (even though she was a year younger than me) which would normally be embarrassing but honestly it was more inspiring than anything...she has so much talent. Her style has changed a little over the years. Though it still is hip-hop, she's seemed to add some soul to it as well. Like all of her songs, Underwater is so catchy. I caught myself singing along the second time the chorus came around. Check it out:
Mirrors-Justin Timberlake
I heard JT's 2nd single about a week ago...only heard it once and it has been on my mind to put it on my blog ever since. I read about it in the Wall Street Journal this morning (which gave the song a good review) which basically forced me to write this post (even though I should be getting ready for work right now). It is sooo much better than Suit and Tie that's for sure. Listen below:
Pretty sure Frank Ocean can do no wrong....Wiseman
Marina and the Diamonds "Lies" Remix by Zeds Dead
I like to check out Thissongissick.com for new music but more importantly, awesome remixes. I was browsing the site when I saw the remix for "Lies". I've always been a fan of Marina and the Diamonds so I immediately listened to "Lies" remixed by Zeds Dead. Been listening to it over and over again for about 10 minutes now. Chill AND energizing song. You'll get it when you listen to it. You can listen and get a free download once you like their FB page. Check it out:

I heard 2 new songs back to back on the radio today. Maybe they're not brand new but I don't listen to the radio much. Anyway, they included new KESHA (wooo reminds me of my college days) and Bruno Mars.
Kesha took a while off and it's nice to have her comeback song be so fun and upbeat. She hasn't changed and hey that's a good thing-she's a fun party song writer. Listen below:
Bruno meanwhile sounds like Sting. I'm actually trying to figure out if there actually is loop of a Sting song in his song it sounds that close to them. It's good though even if he's 'stealing' one of my fave band's music. Listen below:
Morning Video: Macklemore & Ryan Lewis - Thrift Shop
This put me in a good mood this morning. Also made me want to go thrift store shopping which I never do. How have I never heard of this guy before??? So funny and the beat is pretty sick.
This is my dog Molly, she's a stalker. (Taken with Instagram)
Ok ok Miley, I see you
Always loved her style, never her voice but I guess she does have some talent:
Morning Video
I've mentioned Sami Miller a few times on this blog. I met her at my internship with a music company a few years ago. She was working on 'Heartbeat' back then and finally has come out with the song's official music video.
I've noticed she's tweaked the song a little, adding some more vocal ornamentations throughout. 'Heartbeat' shows off Sami's powerful voice and amazing range. Not to mention she's nice to look at. Serious talent. Check it out below:

Interesting read:
PAPER Magazine talked to Sia at Fashion Week and asked how the retired indie singer got connected to David Guetta and Flo Rida. Click the quote below to get directed to the article.
"I'm actually super grateful. I was bummed at first about all of it but of course once you start making money on anything, it becomes increasingly easy to accept".
