I love all of your Love Nikki figurines! They’re all really amazing! (It’s a shame you don’t commission or sell any of them, but I respect your reasons! I still wish we could buy some type of Love Nikki merch somewhere, especially figurines.) Anyway, I was curious about what you did with them afterwards. Do they all sit together somewhere, like a display? I think I’d be cool to see all of them together at once if you could take pictures. Beautiful work!
Thank you! >///<
I really do want to do commissions and giveaways, but I’m too swamp with a lot of things right now to figure out the packaging and other details that come with shipping them out, perhaps someday! I don’t really do anything with my figurines afterward. I displayed them on a bookshelf at first, but they started gathering dust. Since my idea of ‘dusting’ is more or less turning on a fan, I now just put the figurines in a Sterilite drawer to avoid having to clean them ever again, haha...
To the person that asked me about my progress on Demon Huntress: Um...yeah...about that...I hate abandoning an unfinished project and letting clay go to waste, but after such a long time, I’ve completely lost the motivation to continue, sorry... m(_ _)m. I actually ended up making Mirror Tale because I just couldn’t motivate myself to finish. I thought I needed a warm up project, but it turns out I needed a new project all together :’D.
~Mirror Tale~
It’s been a while since I last sculpted, so I made a chibi figure as warm-up. I ended up decorating the base as well. Oddly, the eyes were the easiest part and the hair was the most difficult. After such a long break, I expected the face to give me the most trouble. Overall, I’m satisfied with how she turns out. It’s a relief to know I haven’t lost my touch! xD
I misjudged how thick clay can piled up and made the skirt too poofy as a result. I should have made the petticoat thinner. She’s a bit back-heavy, but hopefully the wires are enough to hold her up and prevent her from collapsing after I add in the umbrella 😬.
~Butterfly Shade~
I finished!! Yay! o(^▽^)o
She’s about 12 cm tall. This is the most detailed sculpture I’ve made so far...and I’m not eager to do another one like this any time soon lol. I don’t know what the back of the dress look like, so I kind of just went with what I thought would look good. The hand holding the mask looks a little awkward because two of its fingers fell off during baking orz. I fixed them, but it always hurts a little when things fall apart at the final step. I spent a lot of time trying to decide what hairstyle I should give her as well. I wasn’t sure what color I want to make the hair, or if it should be an updo or curly long hair. I also had a hard time with her face and makeup. I ended up remaking her face four times! (>__<)
Yeah...I think this project was a little too ambitious for my short attention span lol, but I’m glad I stuck with it because she turned out great in the end!
An WIP update of where I’m at for Butterfly Shade right now. I’ve been quite busy late, so I haven’t been able to work on her much (plus, this dress has a lot of details!), but I’m hoping I’ll be able to finish her by the end of next week! >.<
How do you make the faces for your figurines? Do you paint them? Do you use a mold?
Yes, I use a mold I make myself! After making my first face, I dread having to go through the same thing again, so I made a mold to prevent future suffering xD. It never comes out perfect right out of the mold, though, so I always have to fix things here and there, but it’s still better to have a base to work with than starting from scratch.
No, I don’t paint the faces. I use chalk pastel to dust on shadows, but I use clay to make the eyes. I’m not very good with a paint brush. Plus, I feel like clay would give the eyes a bit more dimension. The downside is that it’s not easy to fix things when I mess up, especially when the face is so small. I usually have to start over with a new face when I make mistakes or aren’t happy with how the previous one turned out (for example, I made the face above three times ಥ◡ಥ). Chibi faces are easier to do since it’s bigger and I don’t have to worry about proportions. But because they’re bigger, more details are required, especially with the eyes. So, I guess faces are annoying to make whether it’s chibi or not, haha. Faces are really important though, a deformed face can break my figures no matter how pretty I make the body, so I’m especially careful with them.
It’s been a while since I last made a chibi figurine. I wanted to make something small and simple this time. It ended up not being that small and simple because I decided that the vampire maid absolutely needs a usable coffin accessory. The coffin took just as long to make as the chibi, but she ended up looking adorable with it, so I’m glad I made the coffin. She’s around 2.5 inches tall. She fits inside the coffin, and the coffin can be closed like a box too. This suit is not yet available in the global server, but I thought she would look so cute chibified, so I just had to make her.
WIP Butterfly Shade
I chose this over White Masquerade because I didn’t want to have to work with white lol. I may have made the skirt a bit too big...I was reading Innocent Rouge and had Marie Antoinette in mind while making this. The bustle is...*sigh*...I tried...(>_<). This is going to take me a while...
Edit: I switched the order of the images because I realized how creepy it would look to have the first pictures you see being a body stabbed with wires...haha.
Are you considering sculpting any of the Ruin suits any time soon (and by "soon" I mean "on the list at all", really - no rush!) now that you're working in full size instead of chibi? It should make the little circuit details at least a bit more manageable…
Not really? I thought about making Scarlet Sin every time I finished a project (I really want to try making the water tank out of resin), but I always end up making something else lol. I like Ruin suits a lot in-game, but when it comes to sculpting them...nothing we currently have in the game really calls to me right now xD.
What paint do you use for your figurines? Do you just use colored polymer for big parts and then something else (acrylic?) for the small details?
I dust some parts with chalk pastels, but I haven’t used paint on any of my figurines. All the small details are also made with colored clay ^^
Hey, I've been following you for a bit and I just wanted to let you know that I'm very proud of your progress! Your stuff has always been good but you can really see the hard work you put into your sculptures!
Aw, thank you!Your praise just made my whole week! (*/▽\*)
~Showcase of Dream~
Finally finished! I switched out the original hair because it kind of reminds me of ramen. Plus, she looks more pink this way xD. She’s around 4 inches tall, everything is made of polymer clay except for the bow. I used air-dry clay to make the bow because I didn’t want it to be too heavy, but I think next time (if I ever make wings or something), I’ll just sculpt everything using polymer clay because I don’t really like air-dry clay’s foamy texture :/. The bow is detachable because I think she looks better without the bow. What looks good in 2D don’t always translate well into 3D lol.
