WE ARE MOVING TO COPENHAGEN ON SEPTEMBER 1ST!!
yeah I know them we went to tumblr together
The 3 month notice period in the UK is a form of torture
My inner monologue during every meeting is "I don't careeeeeee"
I got the job offer.
I'm moving to Copenhagen!!!
Wild turn of events. Never could have predicted this.
There is always one more step with this job!
I did a personality test and a verbal/numerical timed test (akin to the SATs, scary stuff!)
And now I need references, and of course I am an overachiever and have asked 6 people.
I am sooooo close to getting a job offer. In the final stretch, hopefully happening by the middle of next week.
It's external and I'm pretty nervous to tell my manager, though no one should actually be surprised! (They all will be.)
I have to give a 3 month (!) notice. UK employment, man.
I've mentioned that I've been interviewing tons since February. It's been a lot of ups and downs. And mostly now it's stressful because no employer will actually END an interview process. Including my CURRENT EMPLOYER.
I am ready to burn down my office because I started interviewing for an internal role on 13 March. I've done all the interviews and was told that I'm in the final two.
The hiring manager has not spoken to me for 2.5 weeks now. I pinged her. Nothing. Emailed nothing. (Okay I just send the email this morning).
At this point it is just really rude and disrespectful. I was mad that I had to initiate my own rejection but I can't even get that! This person is already my colleague! Colleagues within her business recommended me to her!
I have two other jobs simmering in a never end process. They are both external, no idea when those will conclude.
I am so mad about this internal role!!
Mental health on the weekend: great, thriving, it is Spring in London
Mental health on Monday: trash, in hell, there is no greater pain than waiting to hear about a job you really want
When people at work message me to say "Hi, how are you? Can I ask you a question?"
Babe, just ask the damn question!!
I did really well on two final interviews last week, one internal role and one external role. I cannot function normally until I know the outcomes.
I am UNWELL.
I exclusively get interview invitations while I am on a trip and trying to relax! And I firmly push back and it doesn't work! Why do employers always have all the power??
I've been having a "wobble" at work for the last month, but really it was planted 5 months ago. There was a restructure and I got moved to a new team that had no idea what to do with me. (Despite my role being, uh, comms, and therefore pretty essential)
I was having a difficult time working with my closest stakeholder and when I raised this problem their solution was to make him my manager. You can't make this up. So my mental health has basically deteriorated since he's officially become my manager earlier this month.
I reached out to a few trusted colleagues for council, all of whom implored me to take mental health/sick leave. That is a thing you can do in England! But of course being American, I was very afraid of retaliation should I step away for a week or two.
Yesterday my "fitness to work" was evaluated by a doctor and I took that note into the office to begin several scary conversations about how I need to, at minimum work from home, but really take a break.
I did it. I had the direct conversations with my manager's manager about it and I will take some time away starting next week. My final hurdle today was sending an email to my manager telling him what would happen. I loathe the idea of him knowing that I'm struggling. And of course he is the one who has to approve my sick leave. Love how HR sets it up that way.
This is all to say, it's fucked up how ingrained in me it is to not access these resources at work. And though I am now, I'm still scared about doing it. Here's to hoping I can start to reset my nervous system.
You know when you start a job interview and you can immediately tell that they're not interested in you? Why do they ask you to interview in the first place??
Just had a wild interview experience at my own company and it was clearly just about the hiring manager not liking me as a person. It's honestly been a long time I've had a coworker just simply not like me, so I was really taken aback by the whole thing!
one day you will be nostalgic for the life you’re Iiving now
I really need my British coworker to understand that now is not the time for her "hot take" of "well, you know I really didn't like either candidate".
Okay, cool.
I want to barf forever
