           hearing her friend say it was true time, Lizzie couldn’t help but laugh lightly as she leaned into the back of the chair as she stared across at Ellis “Just because you haven’t seen me with someone doesn’t necessarily mean I don’t have one? And what if I have a girl not a guy? Then what.?”

          with the help of the bridal aid, ellis slipped her slender figure into yet another white dress with too many jewels, a puffy bottom, and an itchy seam. as the zipper was fastened, the door opened as to let the bride-to-be get the thumbs up, or down, from the sister of her soon-to-be husband. “ i swear, you just dragged me here as some sick twisted payback for something i did years ago. ” she huffed as she looked into one of the many mirrors around her. uncomfortably adjusting the bust of the dress on her chest.

          “ tell me again why i have to get a big, poofy dress and why i can’t just get married in my jeans? ” begging yet defeated eyes looked towards the girl she saw as her younger sister growing up. “ plus, i thought only virgins wore white on their wedding day? wouldn’t i be like, tarnishing that tradition or something? ”

            as she sat cross legged on the lounge in the waiting area of the dressing rooms, she couldn’t help but look around at the dresses that loitered the racks. Every single dress was either too puffy, too many jewels, didn’t look right or just wasn’t ----- right for Ellis, none of them suited her, that much was true and Lizzie knew how much it annoyed the other girl, but as she sat there thinking about the dresses, her mind couldn’t help go to the dress she had been designing with Ellis in mind for her wedding day, didn’t think she would ever show her though.

             seeing Ellis walk out of the change rooms, she scrunched up her nose in response and gave her a thumbs down “Even if you did do something to me years ago, I wouldn’t do something like this because this is hurting me as much as it’s hurting you.” she replied lightly before standing up to take a few steps closer to the other girl. “White wedding dresses are just tradition --- whether you’re virgin or not --- and you don’t have to have a poofy dress, it’s just what all the shop seems to have .” she spoke before clearing her throat as she looked down, rocking back and forth on her heels “I uhmmm actually designed a dress for you.”

“You hit your head pretty hard.”

“Don’t move.”

                    it’d been eating at her all day,  thinking about the tiny baby boy that they’d had baptized and held in her arms until he took his final breath,  remembering signing his birth certificate and the long walk out of the hospital,  the longer drive home,  and the longest,  the weeks that followed it when she could barely find the will to move from the rocking chair that jackson had put together,  clutching the stuffed brown dog to her chest.  she’d always pictured it would have been his favorite stuffed animal,  and now she’d still never know for sure.  “oh,  no,  not at all.”  april disagrees with a shake of her head,  finding it hard for a moment to look up at lizzie.  “your father would’ve wanted to do that,  but i would’ve just about lost my mind thinking about some kind of wild teenage party going on.”

                   Watching her mother hug the stuffed dog to her chest, she remembered finding out about the brother she had, the way her mother teared up at the mention of her son, let alone seeing the dog. She asked about it, and her mother had said it was the first thing she had got for her son, her brother the one who had passed away but was now their guardian angel. Hearing the redhead disagree, she couldn’t help but chuckle in reply, she knew her mother would say that, it was why she said it “You would have worried about it even if were just your normal typical party, it’s what mothers do, especially you.” she wouldn’t have it any other way though.

“Thank you.” Delia graciously accepted her glass of champagne, taking a sip of it as soon as it was in her hands. It was definitely some of the good stuff. Possibly even one of the best she’d ever tasted. Well, not that she’d really had a lot of it in her life. No, she normally stuck to either a bottle of beer or a glass of wine. All of the fruity, girly drinks hadn’t really been her style since she was a lot younger. In her later teens to early twenties or somewhere along in there. “One for now, but I might have another once we’re on the plane.” Okay, so that was more like a yes than a maybe. She was already kind of developing a taste for the stuff, if she was being honest. “More fashion weeks after these two? Wow, do you ever get some time to just slow down and take a little breather?”

The thought of jetting off around the world did sound at least somewhat tempting, but Delia was the type of girl who had always loved to be surrounded by friends and family as much as possible. She was afraid that if she was gone out on her own for too long, she’d become incredibly homesick. But she was in awe of her friend, though. If Lizzie had enough stamina, more power to her. She was going to take over the world, and Delia already couldn’t wait to hear all about it when she returned. Finishing up with her own glass of bubbly, she made her way out of the car and followed the brunette over to the awaiting jet. The door was open and the pilot was waiting by the steps. From what little of the inside she could see, it was impressive. “Other than the Eiffel Tower? Maybe the Louvre and a few of the other historic sites, if we have enough time in between after parties and shows.”

  Lizzie smiled lightly at the blonde as she handed her the beverage before relaxing  into the seats and took a sip of the glass with a sigh. These were the minor moments she loved, being able to sit in the car and have a drink and not have to worry about getting into trouble or rather “I’ve got other things on the plane, like wine, beer, cider and spirits, all those fun jazz things if you don’t what champagne.” she remarked lightly as she looked out the window of the car, watching as the outside drove past. They  would soon be at the airport and then they’d be jetting off to Paris, oh how beautiful that sounded. At the question, Lizzie smiled and angled her body towards Delia “Well, Dee, I get plenty of free time, it’s just during fashion week i have even less free time because there’s fashion week in all fashion capitals of the world, going after  the other --- it really is beautiful. Especially when you’re in other countries where they don’t just showcase the clothes they’ve made for regular people, they showcase the traditional clothes they’ve made ---- really beautiful.”

Upon arriving at the airport, Lizzie smiled at the pilot, stopping to talk to him for a moment before heading up the stairs “Eiffel Tower, The Louvre and other historical sites sounds perfect. Definitely Notre Dame Church as well.” she remarked lightly as they climbed the stairs and headed inside before Lizzie plopped herself down on one of the plush lounges and indicated for Delia to take a seat as well. “The  flights about eight hours give or take, we’ve got wifi and we will be eating and we’ve got movies and whatever so we can do whatever we want really --- you can sleep if you really wanted to.”

                     it was incredibly rare that april ever allowed her child to see her upset.  since the day that she was born,  she’d been insistent on being upbeat and happy,  no matter what kind of hellish day she had at work,  or whatever the world had thrown at her.  it may have seemed extreme to the average parent,  but she’d done a good job of being cheery consistently over the years.  some days were harder.  she’d taken the day off work ahead of time,  sitting on the sofa with a child’s toy older than her daughter against her chest.  she nearly doesn’t hear her come home,  movement out of the corner of her eye alerting her more to the presence than anything else.  “y’know,”  she starts,  a heavy sigh already leaving her lips.  “your big brother would’ve been eighteen today.”

                   the moment she left that morning, Lizzie knew that something was off about her parents, she didn’t know what exactly but neither of them seemed to be their normal selves. As she headed home from school, she hoped both of her parents would be slightly better or if not , there was something she could do. Slipping her key into the lock, she opened the front door and headed in. She was about to call out when she took note of her mother seated on the sofa. She didn’t call out, not wanting to startle her mother more but she padded towards the red head and sat down with her foot underneath her bottom, listening as the red head spoke. Lizzie nodded her head “And I’m sure you and dad would have threw him one of the wildest parties one could possibly have for an eighteen year old.”

        “I feel like I have a pretty good idea, but please don’t feel obligated to confirm my educated guess,” Delia mirrored Lizzie’s shivers, not able to stop herself from wondering what was wrong with certain people these days. Then again, there wasn’t really any point in wasting her curiosity on creeps like that anyway. She wouldn’t get a satisfying answer that didn’t make it all any worse, either. It was high time to move on to a much more appealing topic of conversation. Feigning pain at the innocent slap, she lightly rubbed her arm before raising a right eyebrow. “Typical, but I know how to read between the lines.” Truth be told, a subtle hint was all she ever really wanted anyway.

            “It was just --- disgusting, on so many levels.” she murmured lightly before turning her attention on the movie, listening as the blonde spoke. She really was glad she didn’t have to be anywhere that day, she loved spending time with Delia. Standing up, she made her way over to the bar before returning with bags of chips and placed the big bags on the ground between them. Opening a pocket, she chucked some into her mouth before offering the blonde one. “You know to read between the lines huh? Well that’s rather reassuring.” she grinned in reply before laying back down with a stretch “Plans for the weekend.?”

                      both of them embraced their daughter tightly,  nearly unable to put in words just how proud they were of her.  the fashion industry may have been something that neither of them had any greater insight too,  but they did know what the reaction to success looked like,  and the crowd and everyone backstage crowding around,  all of the high praises flowing through the masses of people as they spoke about what they just saw  ––   that all amounted to something that was hugely successful,  and that was something that they both did understand.  even if they couldn’t see it themselves,  they knew that their daughter had come up with something extraordinary and successful.  something that even her grandmother was going to be more than capable of being proud of.

                       “we’re so proud of you,  elizabeth.”  april murmured affectionately,  quickly kissing the top of her curls before pulling away from the warm embrace.  jackson lingered in the hug a moment longer,  giving her one last squeeze before mostly pulling away,  leaving his hand on her shoulder.  “it was incredible.”  he agreed quickly.  they shared a fond stare for a brief moment before april went into answering her daughter’s questions.  “they were all so wonderful  and  well-thought out,  sweetheart.  we couldn’t have asked for anything more genuine  and  heartfelt.  that was outstanding.”  she answers,  grabbing lizzie’s hand and giving it a squeeze.  jackson nodded his head in agreement,  adding on,  “you’re a true talent,  lizzie.  and now everyone else knows that,  too.”

                  It was still so surreal  for her to even think that this was actually happening, that her dream, something she had been dreaming about for quite sometime and now that it was here --- it’s insane. Although everyone was around her and congratulating her, Lizzie didn’t care, the only opinions and thoughts that mattered were her parents, what they thought were her everything. Her grandmothers opinion as well, but it was just an opinion. Lizzie grinned lightly at her mother when she called her by her full name, she really was a precious person, someone she loved immensely but she still hated being called Elizabeth.

                      Normally she was only called that when she was in trouble but now, now she was fine with her mother calling her by her full name “Thanks Mom, thanks dad.” she smiled as she pulled away from her parents, listening as they spoke.She bit her lip and blushed, that’s exactly what she wanted to hear. “Thanks Mom, thank you dad, I really do appreciate the both of you being here right now.” she said softly as she squeezed their hands in response “It’s so surreal you know? It’s hard to believe that it’s --- happening, my dream is finally happening.”

        “That’s disgusting.” To say the least. Delia would never understand why someone felt it was even the least bit appropriate to speak in such a vulgar manner in front of an adult – especially one who was an authority figure. It just didn’t make sense to her, and it probably never would, either. That was enough about that, though. With her mouth hanging wide open in mock shock, the blonde flicked some of the water from her bottle at her friend before her mouth twisted shut into a mischievous grin. “Oh, come on. You have to share the smut. It’s the best part. Well, one of them anyway.” And just as long as she didn’t go into too much specific detail when they were gossiping.

            “Incredibly disgusting. This one guy, was apparently super interested in me but do you know what he asked? He asked if I was into threesomes, take a guess as to whom he wanted one with.” she replied with a scrunched up nose, just the thought of it gave her shivers, something she really didn’t want to think about. Seeing her friends mouth hang open, she couldn’t help but throw her head back and laugh before letting out a squeal as she felt droplets hit her in the face “Hey!.” she chuckled lightly as she slapped Delia playfully. “The only thing I will be telling you is how good he is.” she replied with a smirk, letting her take that in whatever context she wanted.
