My name is Lindsey and I am a 23 year-old living inCincinnati, Ohio.  I am gettingmarried on April 16, 2016 and I want to invite Taylor Swift to my wedding.  I’ve brought up this idea to a few important people in my life and, understandably, I’ve received a common response from all of them: “Good luck.”  Maybe they’re right, but what an incredible, memorable, and magical wedding memory it would be!

My fiance’s name is Andy. We’ve been together for 6 years. Yeah, I know… kind of a long time for a 23 and 25 year-old.  When we started putting together the draft of our guest list, I couldn’t help but think it would only be appropriate for me to include Taylor.  She was my soundtrack for the entirety of mine and Andy’s relationship. She was there when we fell in love at ages 14 and 16. She was there when we broke up 1 year later. And, she was STILL there when Andy decided to show up at my high school graduation party and tell me he was still in love with me.

And, most importantly, Taylor was there after 8 years, when Andy got down on one knee and told me he wanted me to be his wife. She’s been one of my constants in a world that has changed drastically for me.  

Between the 8 years of ups, downs, laughs, tears, heartbreaks… you name it, I’ve been to countless (literally… probably 12? I’m not entirely sure anymore) concerts and jammed in the car with the radio at full blast… including the time that I blew out my speakers when 1989 came out. #notsorry

SO, all of this brings me to one thing: somehow, someway, I want to invite Taylor to my wedding.  It’s going to be the most memorable day of my entire life because I am marrying my best friend. But what a beautiful wedding memory it would be to have Taylor there to celebrate with us.

I first met Kanye at this very stage at our infamous encounter at the VMAs. But something that you may not know is that Kanye West’s album, College Dropout, was the very first album that my brother and I ever bought on iTunes when I was 12 years old. Many of you may not remember that Kanye wrote and recorded his first single with his jaw wired shut after a car accident. Or how he spent years studying the craft and art of fashion and even learnt to sow before launching his very own line that has been wildly successful. I have been a fan of his since I can remember because Kanye defines what it is to be a creative force in music, fashion, and, well, life. So I guess I have to say to all the other winners tonight.. I’m REALLY happy for you, and imma let you finish, but Kanye West has had one of the greatest careers of ALL TIME. Right now I am honored to present the 2015 Vanguard award to my friend, Kanye West.
