“yeah I crave something when I walk in there,” copper muttered, his thoughts slipping from his mouth before his sense got the best of him. “but you’re probably right.” he kept hitting the ball to the girl, taking it a little further, making her reach in a slightly different way. she kept adjusting. “i’m not. you’re good. really!” she seemed to understand the challenges he faced with bar, and he was grateful but changed the topic to focus more on her work. “must be because your a lifeguard that you’re athletic and can do this,” he explained. “have you had to save anyone?”
Adrienne raised her eyebrows slightly at his comment before letting it go. She wondered what that meant because it could have meant a lot of things, but she didn’t want to ask and make the conversation awkward. As he started making it harder, Adrienne had to follow the ball closer and make sure she was hitting it. “Well thanks.” She said. “I don’t know, there are definitely some lifeguards I know who are not athletic at all. Like I hope I’m athletic, but I’m definitely not like a superstar.” She shrugged. “Not officially. I’ve given a lot of bandaids out and I had one teenage boy who I started to give mouth-to-mouth too only to have him start laughing in my face because he got dared to do it but yeah--not saving any lives yet.”
