I don’t like knights in the “glorifying a military police force as symbols of power, wealth, and tradition” way. I like knights in the “cult of chivalry and psychological fallout of raising sons to die like their fathers for a king they’ll never meet” way but also in a “swords and armor symbolic of the heaviness and impermanence of manhood” way.

What was training to become/being a knight like in Garreg Mach (trying to incite some memories)?

Well let me put it in simple terms. All the rough physical training of a boot camp, all the studying of a law school, and all the brotherhood and slightly unhinged social energy of a frat party.

When I was officially knighted? Nothing truly changed all that much- I mean sure more people listened to me and I guess someone would actually care if I kicked the can. Oh and “Sir Lockhart” was a pretty cool thing to be addressed by.

1154 through 1175… 21 years. Joined at nineteen, exonerated at forty. That was five years before all them kiddos moved into the academy.

And when did you become like… a Knight of Seiros? One of the big guns?

Well it would normally take ten years of service under church jurisdiction- however I’d been attending a knights’ academy since I was fourteen. The experience was transferable- so it only took five years of service.

I always claim I do- but I don’t remember what happened after I got out of Abyss. The rest of my life- I know I continued to serve as a mercenary till I decided to retire but that’s it. Nothing else. No details, no one I knew (other than Saunders and Keagan), nowhere I stayed.

It’s just a void. There’s nothing there.

I think it’s my mind sparing me from even more agony, more emptiness. It’s really… the reason why I drink internally. Because it fills that void with something, for a while.

What are the distant words I hear spoken on the wind? What does the name Paraiba mean, why do I keep hearing it? Why do I feel like the answer to any of my questions won’t reveal itself until I try harder? Why does the void feel warm at times, and freezing at others?

@acronixium Did you truly believe that neither Lockhart nor Rangeld have killed people before?

Lockhart was the strongest of us three! Ronin and myself combined could not even stand a chance against some of the men he has taken down! Yes I know it is a strange reality to face but you must realize that being a high-ranking knight does not come with untattered hands.

And being a fallen knight gone rogue mercenary requires even bloodier hands! …Granted I think he is a bit more disturbed by it than Ronin and I are.
