I'm gonna say it, I do think that even the laziest person imaginable should have a roof over their head, food in their stomach, and access to healthcare
is it just me, or the disney fandom has a weird case of racial bias? all the new female characters, Raya, Mirabel, Asha, Moana, are hated for being 'girlbosses, and the fandom seems to suggest a 'prettier', more 'delicate' and 'feminine' type of princess, which sounds a little weird to me, and regards to the male characters, it's the princes of color who get the most hate. Aladdin the liar, Shang the sexist, Naveen and Maui are manbabies..it feels really insidious, especially when these comments come from the same person.
Yes. I think it started from a place of good intent, wanting to defend the three Walt-era Princesses after so many years of people bashing them and calling them anti-feminist. But it’s taken a turn so that a lot of fans just seem to want more heroines like the Walt-era Princesses and enjoy bashing all the heroines who are less sweet, poised, and delicate - or less white, for that matter.
As for the Princes and other heroes, I have seen the white ones excessively criticized too - e.g. Snow White’s Prince the stalker/necrophiliac, Adam the abuser, John Smith the colonizer, Quasimodo the Nice Guy, Flynn Rider the jerk, Kristoff the boor. And I haven’t personally seen too much criticism of Shang; if anything, I’ve seen more fans who try too hard to insist he does nothing wrong. (“He doesn’t care that she’s a woman, he’s just upset that she lied!”) But I’m sure those defenses are in response to excess criticism that I just haven’t seen. And I can’t get over how hard some people are on Aladdin! It does make you wonder: if the exact same story took place in a European setting, with white characters, would they be as hard on him, or would they empathize a little more?
@princesssarisa
To be fair ...
John Smith WAS a romaticized portrayal of an actual real life colonizer that the Native American comunity has been calling out for decades, so I wouldn’t really put him as unfairly overly criticized like the other male characters.
That's true. When you just take the fictionalized version of John Smith by himself, to write him off as just a colonizer is to ignore his character arc, but the real John Smith had no such redemptive journey, and the story of Pocahontas saving his life was probably fiction.
A Spectrum of Scattered Thoughts
I find I feel more comfortable exploring my feelings and thoughts here than on what should be my “main” blog. Thought 1 I grew up thinking Herc’s want (to belong) was the thing I really wanted. I have been thinking if it’s really to seen as I am beyond first impressions (Aladdin’s want). Also, the additives of Aladdin being more of what I want to be and how I want to write/create and to a…

oh is that one of those things where ableist companies put in traces of common allergens so they can just avoid the cost of making it safe
WHAT
A trend we predicted in 2016 continues.
US based but it’s similar reasons in other countries. and of course many companies have international locations. idk if that’s why it’s happening with sour patch kids but this is a thing
I cannot even explain how ANGRY I am at this.
My nephew is very allergic to eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, and sesame. Last year my sister discovered all hot dogs and hamburger buns now contain sesame. Not "may contain", but listed in the ingredients. This year basically every brand of sliced bread also now contains sesame, making it very difficult to find bread items he can eat.
They're just adding it to their products, so they can just list it as an ingredient and not bother with worrying about cross contamination. And they aren't even bothering with telling anyone. Capitalism is going to kill us all.
"Which brings us back to Kellogg’s. Back in 2016, the company found a way around the added burden and expense of complying with the FSMA: they simply began adding trace amounts of peanut flour to their cracker products. Doing so allowed them to list peanuts as an ingredient of the product, freeing them from having to prevent cross-contact.
At the time, Kellogg’s notified Food Allergy Research and Education (FARE) about the impending change and left it to them to warn the allergic community. In this case, Pearson’s didn’t even bother as near as we can tell."
The peanut flour thing is happening all over. Watch out for things like breakfast bars, cookies, etc..
Check everything, even if it was safe last month.
What the FUCK.

ASL brothers in fairy tales
My midyear essay—which I intended to finish a few months earlier but I did not calculate how much material I had to seive through and other life factors—is complete. I am decently pleased with it, as it stands now.
While exploring siblings across fairy tales would itself be a fascinating subject, my goal is to finish a nearly complete essay: the ASL (Ace, Sabo & Luffy) brothers through the lens of fairy tales.
Part One: Between Brothers
Part Two: Story Roles
Part Three: Sign of Death
in case you haven't heard, parts of venezuela were recently hit by a series of earthquakes, affecting communities across the country.
as venezuela is my home country, all of this hits especially close to home. thankfully, my family and loved ones are safe since they were in cities not as severely affected. however, many others have not been as fortunate and are now facing the aftermath of these events.
years of political and economic instability have left many communities with limited resources and infrastructure, making it even more difficult to respond to emergencies like this. there are reports of people who remain missing, and many families are still waiting for news about their loved ones. rescue efforts have been made even more difficult by shortages of equipment, ambulances, and other emergency resources needed to respond to a disaster of this scale.
if you're able to, please consider sharing information, supporting verified relief efforts, or simply helping spread awareness about what is happening.

In addition to financial, you can help longterm rescue efforts by helping the planetary response network identify damaged bridges and washed out roads on zooniverse.
Come to think of it, it really is insane that my entire country is burning alive and literally no one in the rest of the world cares. Thousands of Indians are dying every day from the heat, it's 45+ degrees in multiple areas, the government couldn't give two fucks, we're getting severe warnings and red alerts, and not a soul outside of South Asia is speaking about it because why would you ever care about brown people
please keep talking about how Becky from Maryland doesn't like the rising gas prices. It's clearly the more pressing issue.
USA folks, that is a consistent temperature range hitting 113°. Death Valley temperatures. In Banda, it hovered between 116°-118° (47°-48° C) for a week straight.

Is it weird that my reaction to the Wit One Piece remake is mostly yeah, that's neat.
It's got sparkly light and intense shadows but I'm curious to see how it tells the story (will it start at Chapter One?) and how it uses framing (will it incorporate panels from the manga?). We already saw glimpses of the latter.
