im finally saying what’s on my mind:
bethesda want to make games about a world that ended 20 years ago, not 200
so according to them people on the east coast just lived in garbage for 170 years and have only now managed to construct awful little garbage towns
seriously, name a single event that took place in the capitol wasteland before 2240
there was a completely new massive cathedral made from quarried stone in California in 2161 (84 years) but it took dc residents 200 years to build megaton????? what the fuck
see, if bethesda continues to ignore the original games (and nv) then they can continue to pretend that nothing important happened in the fallout universe until the BoS arrived in DC.
they can’t contradict fo3 because it put the franchise on the map, and fo3 says there are no tribes or cultures in the area, so we’ll never have proper lore for the east coast. there are No factions or cultures in new england and there never have been, according to bethesda.
i’ve heard rumors that FO3 was originally set 20 years after the war and this was changed to 200 late in the writing process, solely so the Brotherhood could be in the game. and i think it’s very plausible. it would explain… everything. but it’s probably just an urban legend designed to excuse how bethesda blatantly doesn’t care about the “old lore” and just wanted to tell their own entry-level post-nuclear story while stealing the iconic ideas from an existing franchise.
