When to replace locks
People like one-size-fits-all answers to questions. Is smoking bad for your health? Does the sun rise in the east? Is water wet? These are yes and no questions that are easy to answer. One that is not is this; when should you replace your locks? Giving an answer like “that depends” seems like a cop out, but it’s actually a very good and accurate answer. Here at Locksmith in Clarkston, we can’t tell someone to replace his locks after 2 or 3 years as the lock may be perfectly fine and not used much. Some locks may be in great shape but wrong for the task and need to be replaced immediately. Here’s what we tell our local Clarkston, GA customers; it the lock needs replacing; replace it! Read on and we’ll explain this further.
Some confusion
We often hear the term “change the locks” and we kind of know what they mean; but do we really? Usually changing locks is referred to when tenants skip out of rentals, or when romantic partners or roommates leave the living arrangements and take the key with them. What does lock change or lock replacement really mean? Sometimes, a rekey is referenced and referred to as a lock change and sometimes, the two terms (rekey and change out) are used interchangeably. We’ll explain the difference for you. This does two things; it teaches you the correct terminology and it also helps you determine which service to use for yourself in the future. Knowing the difference can save you time and a good bit of money so read on.
