These are the 13 works I submitted for the Belgian Photography Awards. Because they have all kinds of restrictive rules on what kind of images one can submit, I chose the safe route and only straight photography of flowers. My Original Flower Illustrations Inspired by 18th & 19th Century Floral Illustrations

In the 18th and 19 century, beautiful illustrations were created, partly as scientific botanical illustrations, however also as art upon itself.

Illustrations were originally painted in watercolour, then to be executed in a highly detailed stipple engraving technique in multi-color engraving printing.

Most famous artists were the Belgian artist, Pierre-Joseph Redouté (1759-1840) and one century later: the Prussian Ernst Haeckel, not only an artist but also a medical doctor and scientist (1834-1919).

However, the illustrations this blog were all made by me.
