          It’d been awhile since Nikki last saw Logan. Maybe it was because he didn’t want to face the man after everything that had happened happened? After he confronted Logan about Theo only to hurt her ten times worse, at least, that’s how it felt to Nikki. There was some guilt there and he couldn’t help but feel bad for being so hard on Logan, especially when he was no better. Then there was the fact that things between himself and Theo were a lot different as of very recently and he didn’t know where Logan and Theo stood… More guilt… To be honest, he felt guilty about that as well. Not that anyone knew about him and Theo, but Nikki knew. 

Walking around the carnival, something Nikki usually wouldn’t be at unless he was looking for trouble to cause, his eyes landed on the male causing him to make his way over to him. They used to be really great friends… You know, before it became obvious that they were interested in the same girl. “Hey,” Nikki spoke, getting the others attention. “Didn’t know if you’d show up to this thing.” He stated, making some small conversation between the two. 

If only they would’ve just let him work his shift, but no – his co-workers were so determined to make him go to this damn carnival on this damn day, that he was sure he’d scare people away with the annoyed look on his face. The pink decoration was too much, and everything was just so over the top – he hated it. This whole Valentines Day shit was one big joke. Just as Logan turned around to get something to drink, he was met with a familiar face. “Hey,” he replied. Things were rocky between the two friends, when Nikki had once been the person Logan went to whenever he needed a friend. “Wasn’t planning on doing so, but uh – here I am. What about you? Doesn’t seem like your scene either.” While both boys were pretty different, they had some things in common, too.

It was a last minute decision for her to even come to this thing. Kennedy had been so focused on her work that she simply needed an escape from her house. She needed to remember what it felt like to have the wind in her hair and the cold on her skin, plus it didn’t hurt that she craved a deep fried Oreo as a reward for the pages she had managed to squeak out through the last few days. So she threw on her dress, her jacket, and found herself strapping on a pink wrist band to get through the over decorated door. It was only an added treat to spot the taller man through the crowd. When was the last time she had laid her eyes on Logan? Not that the answer mattered, but she knew it was far too long. “And here I would of thought this day wasn’t much of your style?”

Maybe it was the lack of love in his life, or maybe just the fact that the whole day was one big joke. But at the sound of the familiar voice, he couldn’t help but wonder if maybe his day wasn’t going to be as pathetic as he’d imagined. “Hey there, stranger.” Logan turned around to face her, a small smirk forming on his lips. “It’s not – I got my ass dragged here by a co-worker.” His eyes did a quick scan of the area, wondering if she had come with anyone or just solo. Not that it mattered, did it? “You here alone, Carter? Or did you bring a date?” He decided to ask. If she was, this day could definitely take a different turn than planned. Somehow he always found himself wanting to spend time with the girl. Maybe it was just the dress that clung to her body that was making her so damn hard to resist.

       The wind stung like sticking your hand into a bucket of partially melted ice - yet the woman had insisted upon taking a drive through the storm to fulfill some sick love for a season that was so brutal that night. There was something about the numbness that accompanied the cold that appealed to her - it sucked the pain from her chest if only for a moment. So, she found herself on the street, driving her car as if it was a regular night, her phone beeped frantically in warning in some feeble attempt to urge her to reconsider her choice to leave her home. But she did not change her mind, that was one thing about Rose, she merely did not care about danger. In fact, she had an affinity for it, the rush that lingered beside it as a shadow encouraged her to continue on. Her stubborn nature often got in the way of her remaining safe as well, causing her to get into trouble more than someone of her age and caliber should. How else could a woman like her end up involved with Benjamin Byrne? Had she been more cautious, more calculating, she never would have stepped within his home. Rose could not help herself though, the offer he made far too enticing. A life of excitement and many stories to deliver in the future. Who would turn down such a proposition?

       As life would have it though, she had greatly underestimated the severity of the storm, her blue eyes looked somewhat panicked for the first time in a long time as her gaze landed on the large patch of ice not far in front of her car. Before she could properly react to the approaching obstruction, her tires grazed the slick ground and her car was spinning out of control. Her manicured fingers removed themselves from the wheel, feet raising from the pedals. If you tried to save yourself in this situation you would merely make it worse, therefore she just had to hope for luck. When the car stopped, it was near a ditch, teetering on the edge. She moved quickly then, gathering as many things as she could before she jumped from the vehicle and onto stable ground. With that, her car tumbled into the ditch, her eyes looking large as she stared at the damage she had done. It would not cost much monetarily, but the time she had just wasted by causing such an incident was worth far more. The sigh that escaped her lips as she pulled her phone from her pocket was audible, snow slapped against her face as she placed the phone against her ear, calling the police.

        “Yes I know it’s late…. Yes…. I should have called a tow but who’s going to come at this time of night…. Can I just speak to the head of the police please…. Oh…. Who am I? I am Rose Lincoln, tell him that and he’ll take the call - I don’t care how busy he is, just tell him.” When these words left her mouth, a silent prayer ran through her head. Hopefully, he would recognize her name and be willing to assist her, because her stilettos weren’t going to carry her far in that kind of weather. Shit Rose, you really fucked it up this time.

It had been a late night. Logan wasn’t even supposed to be at the station, but with the weather being crazy like this, there seemed to be more going on than normally. So when one of his co-workers came up to him with the main phone, he raised a brow. As the explanation came, Rose Lincoln sounding kind of familiar, he took the phone with a deep sigh. 

The co-worker who brought the phone gave him a brief explanation, though nothing really made sense yet. “Chief Leith,” he spoke into the phone. “Is this Rose Lincoln?” He asked, just to be sure. Again, the name rang a bell, but he wasn’t sure where from. He knew it wasn’t just any name, either. It was one of importance, and he was positive she’d remind him of that sooner or later. “What happened?”

Things were far more complicated than either of them had ever thought when this adventure started for the both of them. Back when he was Duke’s brother and she was Duke’s ex, when their nights were spent mostly in laughter and trying to forget the pain. Years past and Duke had long fallen away from her mind and Logan had taken the reigns in a way. He was one of her best friends and someone she had always thought she could turn to. And yet, this feeling he left her with was agonizing. The sight of him with another woman against his skin made her sick to her stomach, but it was the betrayal of the something deeper they shared that stung more. And yet, these days without hearing from him were some of days that truly dragged on. Maybe it was because of everything she just watched happen between Nikki and another. But the only thing sh wanted right now was to hear the truth from one person in her life. “Will you walk me home?”

“Yeah,” he mumbled in response. After the whole thing with Nikki, he figured bailing and going home was the best plan. While maybe he should’ve offered more support to his friend – if he could even call him that anymore – he felt like he needed to take the opportunity to try and fix things with Theo. Besides, he wasn’t exactly on his friend’s good side either, so better to not make the situation worse and be there for him in the morning, when everything hopefully simmered down. 

The night that had ruined things between him and Theo was kind of foggy for him, which was really not the greatest excuse. He knew he’d had too much to drink, and knew that by bringing Theo with him to the gala, he might give another impression than he usually did. And maybe that had been his intention. Because he knew that with her, it ran deeper than with anyone else. And maybe that realization was the thing that had pushed him over the edge. The thought of something serious again, it scared him. Not that he would ever admit it out loud. His ex-girlfriend still hated him – and rightfully so. Logan was aware of his mistakes, at least most of them. As they walked side by side in the frosty air outside, the tension between them as neither of them spoke was so thick it could be cut with a knife. “So,” he started, not entirely sure where to go with that, “That was one hell of a night, huh?”

Leaning against one of the walls of the cafe, he took another swig of his beer bottle. His eyes shifted from one person to another, the party before him in full swing. Yet he didn’t enjoy it like everyone else was – never really did, to be honest. Only with the right company, but even that was limited these days. As he spotted Garrett, he waited for him to be close enough before he spoke up. “One hell of a night, huh? You having fun?”

His Monday morning routine wouldn’t be complete if he didn’t first pick up some donuts and coffee for the department. It had become tradition, almost. A nice way to start the week, some would say. Logan wasn’t much of a morning person, but he liked to make the effort and try to make the best of it. As he entered the place, some were already sitting at their usual spots. “Morning,” he called through the office, holding up the large tray with coffees and the box filled with donuts. “Vega,” he called out as he walked past her, to then walk back two steps and stop right next to her. “How you feeling? How’s the job treating you?”

Kiernan was wondering if her life was going to take a break soon from throwing her into wild dismay. Wine glass in hand she had found herself at a bar once agin after a long week of drama and work. Her whole world was once again flipped leaving her overwhelmed and exhausted. An audible laugh escaped her lips as she watched the familiar man walk through the doors. Of course, why wouldn’t she run into him after the mess of a snow storm they went through?

When it came to Logan Leith, Kiernan was skeptical. The two never really had an opportunities to get to know each other, but they were connected non the less through Theo and Duke. Theo seemed to be fond of the man, maybe up until just recently. “Logan Leith.” She smiled softly. “How are you? Hopefully not still frozen.”

The police department had been a mess ever since the blizzard. There had been people stuck in there for a while, and trying to get things back to run normally again was more of a chore than they had expected. Things were finally starting to feel normal again, even if the amount of reports and all that had seemed to double. Which was why he’d come to the bar a little earlier tonight. He could definitely use the extra drink. Logan soon spotted the rather familiar face, more so since the blizzard. “Kiernan, hey,” he greeted, returning the same smile that was playing on her lips. “Doing okay, considering everything. Definitely defrosted,” he joked, though still remembered the ache of his muscles the day after. Being stuck outside with weather like that was no joke, and unfortunately he’d gotten to experience it first hand. And it wasn’t with the ideal group of people, either, as at least two of them seemed to hate his guts. He wasn’t sure about Kiernan. He knew her and Theo were close friends, so he was positive she knew all about his recent fuck up. “What about you? Mind if I join you?”

It wasn’t uncommon for Nikki to end up at the bar once he was off work and luckily, today wasn’t all that busy. It was one of the perks of a job like his. As busy as it could be, there were days that weren’t as busy or days he’d have off during the week thanks to whatever bad he was working for being off. Just like any other job, more than likely. Nikki noticed Logan as soon as he walked over to the bar, pressing his lips together, the male sat next to the other, ordering himself a drink as well before raising his eyebrows and turning his head to look at Logan. “Didn’t expect to see me in a bar or didn’t except to see me sitting next to you in a bar? ‘Cause they both have very different answers.” 

“I think we both know the answer to that question,” Logan mumbled back, taking a quick swig from the bottle of beer that had been placed in front of him. They always sat together, drank and talked shit. It was kind of their thing, which had formed into a nice friendship. Logan didn’t realize that his actions had more than one consequence, though. As if it wasn’t bad enough to be fighting with Theo, their mutual friends seemed to be pissed at him, too. Rightfully so, he knew that, but what’s a man got to do to get some forgiveness around here? “If you’re planning to give me a lecture or call me out on my shit, don’t bother. Theo already did,” he spoke.
