dare.
“well you’re lucky that you’re my most promising student. my piano legacy is replying on you, lo,” dare responds with raised eyebrows, a soft laugh escaping his lips. he truly didn’t want to get kicked out either. even if she was just joking, dare really would have done whatever he asked just so he could stay in the cabin instead of going back to live with his aunt. “alright, we better get on this shit then,” he says, taking a second to run over the song in his head and bobbing his head from side to side to figure out the arrangement. thanks to logan, he’d heard the star wars theme plenty of times during the duration of the trip. “okay, just do what i do and this should be pretty easy.” with that, dare slowly plays the opening keys to the theme, stating the name of each key out loud as he does so.
LOGAN DIDN’T HAVE an artistic bone in her body, but she was determined and a quick learner. It’s dangerous to put an entire piano legacy on her shoulders, and she tells him so. “ You might want to find a better student, ” She warns, but her eyes follow his hands as they glide across piano keys. The names meant nothing to her, but the positions did, and she wished she could imagine them as something a little more her speed — mathematical formulas, or constellation positions, or gears turning. She listens, attentive as ever, until the song is over, and then she clunks out the first notes — the opening few seconds perfectly, then slower and clunkier, until she dissolved into lapse in memory. “ Well, ” She admitted, “ I’m no John Williams. ”
