Vintage Photographs Are Digitally Transported Into Whimsical Fantasy Worlds by Jane Long 

Australian artist Jane Long digitally manipulates vintage black and white photographs into surreal, whimsical worlds, where their subjects are given a second life in her series Dancing with Costica. The images she utilizes are photographs from WWI, which were capture by Romanian war photographer Costică Acsinte.

Although Long has received some flack from viewers about altering the meaning and the subjects’ true identity, she explains: “I wanted people to see these figures as real people, more than just an old photograph. Adding colour completely changes our perception of images.” 

The stunning collection will be exhibted at Ballarat International Photo Biennale from August 22nd to Septmeber 20th.

Every time someone tries to explain the metaplot of Supernatural to me, it basically ends up sounding like redneck Dragon Ball Z. I’m sure there’s some nuance I’m failing to grasp here.

Every threat’s gotta be quantitatively bigger and badder than the one that came before. Every deus ex machina’s gotta be shinier than the last one. Every season’s gotta end with a massive eleventh-hour powerup for our heroes, only for the next season to raise the stakes enough to put them back in the underdog position.

It’s like, you beat the Devil himself? Well, now you’ve gotta fight the Devil’s cousin Phil, who has conveniently gone entirely unmentioned up until now, but he’s totally twice as evil.

Trying to scare or guilt me into voting for Hillary is not a reason to vote for Hillary. 

I am not motivated by fear. 

Anyone who uses fear to get you to vote for them is not worth voting for. 

I am motivated to vote for Jill Stein because our current political system is beholden to capitalism, racism, and imperialism and the elite few in power need to know that the people will not let them continue to abuse our rights and our lives, while trying to appease us with, “at least we’re not Trump.”

Saying you’re better than Trump isn’t saying much at all. 

We shouldn’t be setting the bar at “she’s better than Trump.” 

We should be fighting for what we actually want, which, for me, is fundamental, institutional change. That’s a long fight, but if we want a truly better and sustainable standard of living for everyone, we have to have this fight. 

Revolution is not convenient. Revolution is not easy. The people and systems in power, upholding the status quo, will use all the tools at their disposal to make us believe that what we want is too much; that what we’re asking for is impossible. But it’s not impossible. It just requires a break from the status quo. And that is something the status quo cannot abide. So they try to blame us for wanting what we want. They say we are the problem. They say we are destroying the balance. But the actual problem is the system itself. Not those who speak against it. 

So I will not let you scare me or guilt me into voting for someone who will not change that system. 

I’m not voting for Trump and I’m not voting for Hillary. 

I’m voting for Jill Stein because she represents systemic change to the capitalist, racist, imperialist status quo.

I’m a part of the LGBT community, I have several chronic diseases, chronic pain, and I’m terrified. I would die without access to affordable medical care. If Trump is voted president because of a split vote, my family’s livelihood is going to fall apart.

I’m voting Democratic no matter what. I don’t care who it ends up being. The people who are going to vote for Trump are still going to vote for Trump. There’s no need to meaninglessly split the vote.

You have to think about the common good when you cast your vote, not what just benefits you.

Exactly. Most of the Bernie or Bust people are people who wouldn’t be disadvantaged by a Trump presidency. At the DNC, a majority of the people holding Bernie signs were white. They won’t get deported, they won’t get put in internment camps. I am a white, privileged person from a middle class family, but I understand the importance of putting a Democrat in office at all costs. Bullshit with your conscience, if you really had a conscience you would rally behind the one hope that POC, LGBT people, people in poverty have. That one hope is Hillary. Voting third party will do nothing for anyone except yourself who wants to feel good about “making a difference”. If you really want to make a difference, vote Democrat.

OK, I need to say this, because I am so sick and tired of Hillary supporters right now.  I’m a Bernie supporter.  I’m also a Woman of Color.  I am not making this statement from a point of privilege that not voting for Hillary would cause me and my community irreparable harm.  The fact is that Hillary supporters already decided that my community does not deserve rights in their own country, so everyone sucks at this point.

If Trump wins the presidency, it isn’t because of Bernie supporters.  It’s because of the Hillary camp.  Plain and simple. They were cowards throughout the entire primary process. They dismissed, mocked, and ridiculed Bernie supporters as immature children because they actually believed in something, and now that they’ve completely turned off nearly half of the Democratic and Independent voters off their side, they are scrambling to fix it by using fear and guilt to get their way.

Do any of you even understand why Trump is so popular? Why Bernie garnered such large crowds and such faithful supporters? It isn’t because we’re idiots, I’m more informed about politics than a good chunk of you. These two candidates were so popular because the American public has been sick to death of how the government is run, from endless wars, corruption, and lobbies controlling what bill passes and what doesn’t. When the primary race started, the mainstream media, and pretty much everyone, figured this race was going to come between Jeb Bush and Hillary Clinton. It was going to be the battle of legacies.  Then Bernie came along and promised to not have a super PAC. He wanted to run a campaign on policy, he wanted to get money out of politics and do more to provide jobs, healthcare, and fix our infrastructure. Trump has never held public office, and yes, I get that he’s run a campaign on racism and hate, but he offered the same things on the right that Bernie did on the left: change.

The difference between Republicans and Democrats at their very core is that Democrats are fucking cowards.  We talk a good game about how we want to change things, we want to live in a better country, but when we were given the opportunity to actually see that happen, we decided to play it safe. Bernie didn’t ‘seem’ like a strong candidate, so we tucked our tails between our legs and decided to go with the easy choice. Republicans don’t do that.  They hate how corrupt the government is as much as we do, and they know how fucked up politicians are, and when a candidate came along outside of the political norm, they actually embraced him! Well, congratulations, guys, Republicans held firm on what they wanted, while Democrats bowed out, as per usual.

Bernie Sanders is the only candidate that I can remember that actually gave a shit about Indian country. He went through Indian Country and listened to our problems, he talked about us in speeches, as more than just a throwaway line. He co-sponsored the reauthorization of the Violence against Women Act that actually made it possible for Non-Natives to be charged by tribal police for domestic and sexual assault on reservations. He made me believe that I could actually live in a country that wasn’t actively trying to erase my very existence from history. Bernie gave me hope.

He gave all of his supporters hope. He made us believe that we didn’t have to follow the status quo, that things could actually change if we were just willing to fight for it. And despite what Clinton supporters believe, he’s crossed the aisle more than any other Senator in our current congress.  I have no doubt that Bernie would have been forced to compromise on some of his promises, it’s how politics works. But I’m ok with compromise.  What I’m not ok with is going into the debate starting at the compromised position.  When you go in to buy a car, you low ball the price, and make them meet you at a reasonable middle. Hillary’s pragmatism tells you to go in willing to pay full price, and then you end up paying more than they were asking.

When Hillary became the party nominee, Bernie supporters got dragged through the mud again, only this time because we’re “privileged self-righteous white people who don’t have to deal with the consequences.” That’s utter bullshit. For the first time in possibly ever, we believed that things could be better, and the Hillary camp took that from us.  We’re not being petulant children, we’re drained. It’s like a kind of societal depression that swept through all of us and we’re sick and tired of doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results. And Hillary supporters, YOU did that. Every time you bashed a Bernie supporter, every time you dismissed us, every time you laughed at us and called us stupid for standing for what we believe. And now you’re trying to back pedal and act like “Ok, seriously, though, now that the primaries are over, it’s time we unite.” Fuck you. If Trump wins, it’s on you.

I’m so fucking tired of always having to choose between a giant douche and a turd sandwich. I’m so sick of my community being shoved aside and ignored as our people can’t get access to fucking WATER. I’m sick of politicians pandering to me and telling me they care about Indian country by renaming a mountain, or condemning a football team’s mascot, just to turn a blind eye and let John McCain sell off sacred land to a foreign mining company, or allow a pipeline that could potentially damage a reservation’s water supply. I’m sick of being told to be patient and play it safe while my community is murdered and our population growth is literally DECREASING! I’m sick of being told that we don’t matter because we don’t have the money or power to make anybody in D.C. pay attention.

The decision about whether my community has any rights has already been taken from me, so it doesn’t matter either way.  I’m fucked no matter who is president.  And you did that to me.  

And at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter who I vote for. I live in New York, thanks to the Electoral College system, Hillary is taking my state. My vote doesn’t matter. Only ten states have the opportunity to actually make a difference in this election: Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Michigan, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Wisconsin. I can vote Green Party.  I can stay home and not vote. Most of us Bernie or Busters can afford to do that, and it won’t make a single fucking difference. That’s the truth about American politics.
