It was in high school for me, that Googling your name to see what existed beyond the You that was suffering in your teen angst town, was a jolt that would only really happen for you the first time Searched. I half heartedly one day in my graphics design class, typed my birth name #LolaAlbright into the engine. At that point in my Life, I had never met another Lola; I had never met another Albright outside of my kin. So, with a flickering but quickly dwindling & pessimistic hope, I waited for the page to load &âŚwellâŚHOLY SHITâŚI foundâŚwellâŚme! I BUGGED out. Was she a motivating factor behind my being named Lola all this time unbeknownst to me? No in fact! My parents hadnât any idea despite her fame. She was born in Ohio, I was born in Indiana. Her parents were gospel singers, mines were devout Christians & my father & the generations on his side as far back as the dirt itself, major crooners. She was born July 2Oth & myself August 15th. And you guys, as reaching as it may sound, this all felt too kismet; I would later also be able to relate to her modeling career that bloomed just before the buds of the brave new world inside her, to head to Hollywood to act. When I had to officially join the #ScreenActorsGuild in 2007, I was notified I could claim the name Lola Albright, as Lola had not paid her dues in over 35yrs, but I couldnât dare imagine it. Ever since that liberating moment in finding her smile after the thousands of miles in distance & decades between us, I have felt incredibly & sentimentally sewn to her stride, & let my wishes be known that I would not be taking the name Lola Albright, until after she flew to a new wild. I refused to pave over what she had so valiantly & so personally, planted. I added my middle initial to my professional name instead & went forth in my career. I have tried just short of feverishly, to find her over the years to absolutely no avail. I have even been accidentally contacted from a silver screen directorâs wife, who became very fond of Lola while her husband worked with her on a picture, in hopes I was the coveted one. This soft honeyed voice assumed Lola may have âdiedâ as so many had failed in being able to locate her over the years, but had that morning, came across a Birthday wish sent to Lola from a local California paper delivered to the wifeâs door. âLola youâre alive!â I would hear on the other end of the line. It wasnât until tonight that a new homie Googled my name to find what she did not before know: that there was another #LolaAlbright. I began sharing what still feels giddy & freshly picked; the news to me of her legacy & her still very much alive Life, when she quickly exclaimed in shock & surprise that just under Lolaâs Google Images & Wikipedia, lie the headlines of Lolaâs death just 2 days ago at the age of 92. Iâve been exploring my heavy heart this evening regarding my North Star Starlet & will continue to hold the torch the best I can. To quote her famous songbird lyrics & to bid my farewell, âHow High the Moonâ Lola? How high the moonâ˝â§ Lola Jean Albright July 20, 1924 - March 23, 2017
