“Oh some here and there.” He said then again he had yet to meet anyone on the island that could remotely be considered unattractive. Even guys and guys did not even interest him that way. “Yeah I can take you out just no more than about two miles out to sea then you would get pulled back to the island. We would not be going out nearly that far only a few hundred yards.” He thought about her other question and nodded. “Yeah I don’t really have a favorite exactly but you can look through what i have. He had a variety some history, biographies, science fiction, mysteries and a couple really old books on what he was. “So where are you from?”

“Kekahi,” she signed, “where are you from?” Lana continued to swim in place, or attempted to with the waves that were coming up towards the beach. She was just about to sign something else when she let out a surprised yelp and frantically swam closer to James, “Something touched me!!” Sure she had plenty of experience being in the ocean, but that didn’t mean she enjoyed being touched by any of the sea creatures. Her dark hues scanned beneath the water searching for the culprit, “I don’t see anything...do you?”

Kalani shrugged. He’d heard rumors of people disappearing here, and suggestions of who could have disposed of those people. But that was all they were, rumors. It did seem possible, people here had the means to murder someone. “Maybe. Maybe not,” he told her, being honest in his uncertainty. “It’s not worth the risk. Even if you aren’t killed, you might end up wishing you were,” he added. Kalani remember nearly drowning, with Tiffany watching on. There were other examples, but the last thing he wanted to do was worry Lana. Kalani wasn’t sure who James was. As he told her, it was best to keep to one’s self. “I do now know him. There is really only one mistress I would say you could trust. And even thin, things happen. People can control others. People can sell each other out. It’s just, not safe here,” he tried to explain. She couldn’t truly understand it though, he knew that. He was her, three years ago when he first arrived. The idea of hurting someone else wasn’t really a concept back home, but if anyone could understand it, it was be Lana, considering everything she had gone through. “Even slaves are not safe. Amabella, stay away from her,” he warned.

“Who? Who can I trust?” she signed, her eyes practically pleading with him. Maybe this place wasn’t how she thought it was going to be. If there was no one she could trust, that would make her alone, and she had not felt that way. And if this place was so bad then why had he stayed? Why hadn’t he returned to the island? “Amabella,” she repeated taking a mental note of the name. How was she supposed to keep herself safe? She couldn’t even do that back home. “I’ll try to stay away from her. She glanced down at her timer quickly looking back up at Kalani, “How much longer do you have before you have to head back to the cells?”

Orion looked up at the female voice he had not heard before and guessed that it was the new roommate. At least it was a female he got along better with women then other guys then again he had massive trust issues. “Yeah i am usually a light sleeper. i was just hoping to sleep in a little. Haven’t had the chance to in a while.” he got up stretching a little not even occurring to him that he might cover up in front of his roommate. “I’m Orion  I guess I should say nice to meet you but then again we are here.”

Lana’s eyes looked down his body for a brief moment before she tore them away, forcing herself to look anywhere except at him, but she couldn’t help peeking over at his scars, “Lana,” she signed, mouthing the name, “I’ll let you get some more sleep if you want to try falling back asleep. I haven’t been able to sleep since coming here...too cold up here, and the noises,” she shivered, “How long have you been here?”

“It’s only fair to warn you that djinn are rarely nice enough to give you something in your favor.  Even if it seems to be.”  Ace was nice enough with the boy’s he dropped into fantasies these days, but he was still getting something out of it….sex and energy.   “Not that I’m usually fair.  Consider yourself lucky that you tasted okay for a girl.”

“Thank you..for being fair enough to warn me,” she signed. Lana wanted to comment on how it was pretty cool that he could shift reality for her, but she thought better of it. She did not look forward to it happening again, especially with a djinn even more of a monster than the one standing in front of her. “What would you have done if I didn’t taste ok?”

james nodded and until he came here he was the same way only used to small boats usually a couple people sail boats. “Well my job here I captain the yacht for the school i take it out usually every weekend go around the island a couple times  unless someone wants to take it out for a party or something, but maybe i could take you out i am sure you will enjoy it.” He thought in a week or two she might need a little change of pace from this place. It could hit hard especially at the holidays. “Well I like to read, listen to music, one of my friends is trying to get me into a bunch of different movies, and spending time with a pretty girl.” he winked and did notice how her shirt clung to her body but was not overly obvious. 

She blushed at his compliment, “You must spend a lot of time with pretty girls. And you would take me out on it? And you want nothing in return? Are you allowed to take people out on it? People like me?” she didn’t want to get him into any kind of trouble. He seemed like a kind considerate guy, “Do you have a favorite book? Maybe I could read it.” Reading was something Lana also enjoyed, and honestly, it seemed like it was something she was going to do a lot of since she was celled up.

“No. It’s not like that,” he said. This wasn’t really the time or place for him to go over how his opinion had changed, how his desire to go back to Kekahi had faded. “You will see. There is more to life than staying back home,” he told her. Part of Kalani didn’t want her to come to that realization on her own. He was afraid for her safety, knowing how kind and caring she was. “It will change you. Life here is very different. There are no rules, no laws for people like us,” he added. Lana was beautiful, her smile beamed and left little doubt how sweet she was. “Of course you can trust me. But no one else. Promise me you will keep to yourself. Even if someone is kind to you, they might be trying to gain your confidence and trust,” he told her. It was the same advice he would give one of his own sisters. 

Did she want more to life than Kekahi? She wasn’t entirely sure, but she couldn’t deny the curiosity that was growing inside of her. There was so much that she hadn’t done before, and the culture was so much different than that of the one she grew up in. “So we could die and no one would bat an eye?” she asked, the question leaving her feeling a uneasy. Maybe this place was worse than her brother. “Lani,” she started, “it’s hard to keep to myself...and I sort of already caught someone’s attention...James? Is he a bad person? What about the other slaves?” He hadn’t seemed like it at the beach.

Cell Mates||Orion + Lolana

Orion had been busy with finals and working. It kept his mind busy and from being a target in the cells. unfortunately now that the semester was over and he preferred to work during the day into the evening he had yet to meet the new cell mate. he was enjoying his sleep for once but was startled awake by one of the guards smacking at the bars. “God damn it.” orion grumbled awake guessing he must have looked too peaceful for their liking. He kicked off his covers sitting up only in his boxers revealing some of his tattoos and scars over his torso and back. “i’d kill for another hour.” he said glancing at the bars the guard must have gone off to annoy someone else.

The smacking at the bars didn’t wake Lolana as she hadn’t been able to fall asleep yet. The girl rolled on her side to peer over the edge of the bed at one of her cellmates, who obviously did not enjoy being woken up. Her eyes scanned over his bare torso, he was riddled with scars that made the girl grimace at the sight of them. A soft blush crept across her chest as she noticed he was just in his boxers, embarrassed she forced her eyes to look only at his face. “Light sleeper?” she signed, “Maybe you can fall back asleep?”

The fear was a tiny tasty little snack, not really the level of fear that he would truly savor, but not crafting that level of fear was Ace’s one and only personal concession to his own time as a slave; the one bit of kindness he gave those sharing his former fate.  He let the fantasy slide away as if it had never been there.  “You should be careful what you ask for,” he advised with a smirk.  “You might get it. Really ask for a spa next time.”

And just as fast as it had come upon her the snow storm slipped away from her; all the feelings that came with it were now gone. She was warm back in the confines of her cell, no snow freezing her legs or ice cold wind whipping against her face. “Whoa,” she blinked looking around the room, actually happy to see the bunks, “I won’t ask for that again. I’ll think really hard on what I ask for next time. Or I’ll at least ask to be better dressed.”

It was cute how happy the idea of swimming was to her. For him it had been the same way a great escape from the world for the most part. he watched her hurry to get out of her pants then run off to the water. let her run ahead mainly to get a nice view of her. after a few moments when she reached the water he went running after her and passed her diving in the water. he resurfaced getting the water out of his eyes. “So you like art, swimming, kids, what about boats?”

She let out a soft quiet laugh as he dived into the water, emerging shortly afterwards, “I like boats, but I have only been on small ones.” She playfully splashed a small bit of water at him, “What are some things you like? Surfing...swimming...and?” Her soaked t-shirt clung to her body as she swam out closer towards him.

James watched as she took over in trying to send a text and she succeeded and he smiled at how happy she looked because of it and nodded. See you are a quick study Lolana.” he showed her how her text showed up on his phone. He then sent a quick text. “Let’s go swim.” He sent it and then  reached for his sandals putting his phone there then his wallet then pulled off his shirt and got up to his feet. He then reached down to help her up. You can leave your stuff here your book and phone and stuff. No one will steal anything.”

She let out an excited cheep as she received his text to go swim. With a smile she reached out to grab his hand, pulling herself up from the ground. Lana wasn’t entirely sure if her stuff would be completely safe, but they were the only two here so she left her things on the ground. Carefully, she shimmied out of her pants, leaving her t-shirt on. Letting go of his hand, she took off towards the water, her hair flowing behind her. As her feet touched the water she let out a blissful sigh and moved deeper into it.

“Yes.  No.  Pleasure and fear,” he replied simply. 

Ace wasn’t really one to show off his powers, but she was asking and who knew, maybe she’d be startled enough to feel something worth eating.  Not his favored way of feeding, but if he was going to stand around talking to her, he might as well.  He slid into her mind and began to shift her perceptions.  The fantasy formed and the cell retreated, leaving behind a mountain top and a blisteringly cold and windy snow storm.  Well, for her anyway.  He now appeared to be warmly dressed though in fact, he simply wasn’t affected by the fantasy.

While she wasn’t scared initially the moment reality began to shift around her she felt a little uneasy. The cell that she stood in and all the noise surrounding her disappeared, and soon she was left shivering barefoot in the snow. Her eyes growing wide from fear as she wrapped her arms around herself, her teeth already beginning to chatter. Lana knew she wasn’t really here, or at least she hoped, but the way the blistering cold wind and snow smacked against her face made her second guess it. She took a shivering step towards him, her body temperature already drastically dropping, her lips began to turn a soft blue hue, “Take me back.” Maybe it had been a bad idea to suggest a snow storm.
