Spoilers incoming because I gotta talk about a couple parts.

So someone on that team knows a ton and a half about lighting and camerawork oh my gosh the way I noticed how much seamless movement there was in the camera shots, like it was dancing along, very feature film musical.

The stylization was very charming, very caricature in places on extras and side characters like you'd see in older Disney work.

The foreshadowing with David having compassion on the lion that was trying to kill his sheep????? (Not to mention that gorgeous shot where we pan from Saul on one side of the waterfall in the mercy cave to David inches away on the other side in the scene proper.)

Someone on that team is also clearly a fan of Lord of the Rings because we got a big Cue The Sun army charge lol. AND CAN I TALK ABOUT DAVID GETTING STRUNG UP AS A CHRIST FIGURE AND HOW THE CLIMAX BLENDED THREE DIFFERENT SONGS FROM EARLIER IN THE FILM SEAMLESSLY????

I am wigging out this was such a cool and fun and lovely movie and oh I hope it does well, I hope it does very well because I want to see more from this creative team.

EDIT: I FORGOT TO MENTION THE WAY THEY STAGED THE DAVID VS GOLIATH BATTLE WITH GOLIATH GETTING HIS "SMITE ME ALMIGHTY SMITER!" BOAST IN WITH THE SLOW PAN UP TO THE SUN IN THE SKY AND HOLDING FOR A PREGNANT SECOND BEFORE THE SILHOUETTE OF DAVID'S SLINGSHOT CROSSES THE FRAME AND THEN LIKE TWO OR THREE QUICK SHOTS LATER HE LETS IT LOOSE AND SMACK STRAIGHT INTO HIS FOREHEAD WITHOUT ANY FURTHER FANFARE LIKE GOD LITERALLY SMOTE HIM. AMAZING. 10/10 NO NOTES.

No like let me just say the sling scene was an absolute masterpiece I remember when I saw it the first time that I had chills and my hands started shaking like I don’t remember the last time I felt like that in a movie

Okay this is like a HUGE hear me out but listen:

I saw the new David movie and drew a lot of similarities with the imagery to Red Dead 2.

Yes, that sounds very weird but just LISTEN OKAY IM NOT CRAZY.

the high honor character of the movie was obviously David, who was pictured multiple times with a large antlered deer. Sound familiar? But WAIT. Saul was portrayed as ‘lost’ instead of fully evil, and was portrayed next to a LOT of wolf imagery.

He’s supposed to convey the low honor character of the movie. Not the villain, per se, because there were other actual villains and characters that were opposers of the hero in the moral. But then I started thinking…

This might be a weird conclusion to draw from this movie and trust me I know that lol but Arthur being high honor vs low honor doesn’t change his purpose in the story. In David, King Saul was always going to die. And David was always going to replace him. Arthur was always going to die, and John was always going to escape to freedom (obviously bc of RDR1). The high honor or low honor choices don’t affect the grand scheme of the story, and neither does the imagery and associations. Arthur can be both a wolf and a deer and it doesn’t change the fact that his story was meant to take a terrible turn to the end.

King Saul, whether his path was the wolf of the deer, was not going to change if he died or not… and David, though he was always faithful and had the ‘deer’ qualities, didn’t need to change anything or make different decisions that would have lead him to the throne. He was always meant to be there.

Maybe I’m crazy and annoying but I saw the imagery so much in the movie and this was the first thing that came to mind.
