Swimming Lessons|| Gid ^ Remus
The grip he had on Remus’ arms was loosened and he tried to swallow the brief panic that wanted so desperately to grip him— but it was hard to be panicked when Remus was right there, holding onto him. Calloused hands- slightly pruned from the Black Lake- held onto his tightly, a soft squeeze of reassurance doing more to sway his nerves than anything. ‘I’m here— not letting you go, yeah?’ Gideon’s breath hitched slightly at the way Remus’ voice dipped, a thrill running through him, only punctuating the electricity all the more at the warmth of lips against his. ‘Won’t let you get hurt.’ And when he spoke like that- so close and so warm and so very much there- how could Gideon do anything but trust him?
He was vaguely aware that he was being pulled deeper— that was until his feet lost the bottom. Everything went rigid and then he kicked desperately before Remus’ voice reached his ears again: Relax. Gideon’s eyes shut, willing the panic to stop rising in his chest, squashing it— feeling Remus move away from him with the simple command of ‘Float’. Gideon’s legs were still churning in effort to keep him up and how the hell was he supposed to float? “I—” He swallowed down the ‘can’t’— he could. He could because Remus- well because Remus thought he could and he told him that he wouldn’t let him get hurt so obviously, he had enough faith in his floating abilities.
“H-How?” When Fabian swam, he would just lay on his back and it looked like the most effortless thing in the universe. Maybe- maybe that’s what he meant? Slightly shaking hands turned over in Remus’ as he turned himself, his back to his boyfriend. Taking a deep breath, he allowed everything to go limp, laying back in the water, his hands still holding time onto Remus’. Eyes were still shut tight, not wanting to see the water that was surely to envelope his head when the weightlessness hit him. He was floating. His chest rose from the water, droplets rolling down back into the lake and barely cracked open an eye, peeking up at Remus, who’s hands he still held tightly to, “About like this?”
Remus grinned widely, his eyes crinkling at the edges from his lips stretching up into a smile that showed his glee for the moment. Being with Gideon was something he loved, he loved spending time with the redhead and he loved sharing books with him. He loved holding his hand and telling him horrible jokes and maybe bragging about a few pranks (Remus wasn't used to the action, bragging? That was so bizarre!)
And-- maybe it was because Gideon trusted him enough to try and swim that he was feeling so incredibly light and happy but... he wasn't sure that he ever wanted it to change. And, well, if he had to be by Gideon often for it all to happen, then, so be it. "Like that, yeah," he said, his voice soft and low and his heart thumping, Remus feeling very proud of Gideon for his ability to float, "Perfect," he murmured, truly meaning so much more than just his form at that moment.
He didn't know when he started feeling so much for him, though, he wasn't sure if it was all true. Remus had always been the sort of person that got extremely attached to others much quicker than he should've, but he couldn't help it. Being raised the way he was, he never expected to have any friends, and when he made the ones the did, he did not think that they were going to stick around for long-- so Remus did anything for them. He loved them.
Though, he'd never been sure if they ever loved him back.
Remus banished the thoughts and shook his head slightly, leaning forward and pressing his lips, very softly, to those of Gideon. He held onto the Gryffindor's hands tightly and squeezed when their lips touched, breath hitching only slightly when he felt Gideon's soft skin, "You're doing great, alright?" He murmured, a smile wide against Gideon's lips, "You're pruney," he smirked.
