Staff Pick: Rat Queens Vol 1 Sass and Sorcery
The Story: Someone has hired assassins to murder the adventuring parties that have made their home in the city of Palisade and it’s the Rat Queens who take it upon themselves to figure out who. The first volume introduces us to the Queens and the people they drive nuts. I’d like to say more but you’ll just need to read the book!
Why it was picked: The series is an fun series with amazing art and cool characters that will leave you wanting to read more. The story is actually starting up a new run this month so now’s the perfect time to jump in!
Who might like it: Fans of fantasy, d&d, and/or interesting and fierce women.

Staff Pick - Comic - Iron Fist (2017)
Comic Book Title: Â Iron Fist (2017)
What it is:  The (fictionally) living embodiment of Kung-Fu and Super Heroes. Iron Fist! A brand-spanking new comic book at issue #1. The spiritual follow up to Iron Fist: The Living Weapon (2014). We find the man, Danny Rand, struggling with his identity as Iron Fist. After the destruction of his adoptive home, K’un-Lun, it’s a struggle to tap into his Chi.  He's fearful that he's half the man he used to be and it's not the half he's willing to live with. Pushing himself to reconnect within may very well be what breaks him in the end.
Why it was picked:  Because the main characters show is being released on Netflix this same month, duh. :D Seriously though, I haven't enjoyed a fusion of comic books and Kung-Fu this much since I was introduced to the combo by Wu-Tang Clan in “Enter the Wu-Tang” some 20 years ago. A character like Iron Fist can resonate on such a level as is evident by such fan devotion as RZA of the Clan having done whatever he had to do to get in with Marvel & Netlfix to direct an episode titled “Immortal Emerges from Cave”. When I see such a glowing recommendation as that, I've gotta see for myself what the source material is like.
Who might like it: This seems like a perfect jumping on point for those familiar or not. Those of you looking for a strong book to bet on for your subscription list. Here ya go. Those who just aren't sure if they like the flavor of Kung-Fu in their comics, have no fear as Loot will be carrying Iron Fist in its membership library which is AH-maz-ING. If ya don't know, ya better ask somebody. ;)
Staff Pick: Scuttle
What it is: 'Scuttle!' is a card game for 1-5 pirates trying to be the first to 21 doubloons. It's based on the classic game Cuttle, Scuttle! but with added rules for a great “take that” feel and gorgeous art. Â
Why it was picked: Because it's fun! Most games can play in under 10 minutes. Â It's easy to learn. With only minor reading this game can be played by the kids too and taught to anyone. Also it has a one player variant that works!
Who might like it: Â Any fan of quick play pocket games. It has the fast paced and easy learn feel of games like Love Letter and Coup also in a small portable box.

Staff Pick: Scythe
It is a time of unrest in 1920s Europa. The ashes from the first great war still darken the snow. The capitalistic city-state known simply as “The Factory”, which fueled the war with heavily armored mechs, has closed its doors, drawing the attention of several nearby countries.
What is Scythe?
Scythe is a Worker Placement/Economic Engine board game set in an alternate-history 1920s period. It is a time of farming and war, broken hearts and rusted gears, innovation and valor. In Scythe, each player represents a character from one of five factions of Eastern Europa who are attempting to earn their fortune and claim their faction's stake in the land around the mysterious Factory. Players conquer territory, enlist new recruits, reap resources, gain villagers, build structures, and activate monstrous mechs.
Who Might Like it?
Anyone who is a fan of worker placement and strategy. There are a number of different ways to win, and not a single one of them is an optimal strategy. Each game setup is different which offers new unique challenges and changes in game play.

Staff Pick: Pixel Glory
Who might like it: This game hits a lot of fans. It's a quick pick up and play. Easy to learn. Retro game theme for video game fans. In a small box for a deck builder, making it easy to travel.
What it is: Pixel Glory is a fast-paced deck builder that starts out with a fun drafting and bidding mechanism. It's art and theme are all based on retro games.
Why it was picked: It's a fun deck builder with strategy picked drafting and the mechanics work great. There's card combos. I love the way it has 2 very different phases. First you draft/bid, then you change gears and play “take that” style monster attacks!
