heart hits like a drum | triston & mikael

“I know, it’s one of the things I love about you,” he answered. He was comfortable here, it was where he belonged and he knew it. Mikael shook his head. “They will not take advantage of me. They can try but it will not end well for them.” His hand moved absently up and down Triston’s side, keeping them close together. “You know better than anyone how well I can handle myself.”
Turning his head some, he smiled. “You know the answer that.” He laughed, enjoying the warmth and comfort of Triston’s bed. How could this feel so right? Sometimes he thought he ought to give up his life of whoring around and just stay here with Triston. But it was a scary thing to settle down, and who knew if Triston would even allow that. He looked down at their intertwined fingers and he grinned. This was definitely against the rules. Slowly falling in love had to be.
“No trouble. I had to remain in court all day, so the only trouble came from dealing with everyone in King’s Landing. I would have preferred to be here.”
Triston couldn’t help the way his heart raced at his words that always seemed to come so easily to Mikael, and he never waivered in directing them at Triston. It flustered him to say the least. He would hate Mikael for constantly making him feel that way if he weren’t already completely taken with him. “I do in fact know how capable you are of handling yourself, but I also know that you attract trouble far more than I would like, whether it be by the heart you wear on your sleeve or that pretty face of yours.” Triston chuckled softly, his eyes drifting shut at Mikael’s ministrations. It was a comfort he hadn’t felt in such a long time that he was convinced he had never felt this safe... warm. Triston would like to think that it was because he denied himself that closeness, but then he would just be once again denying what it is exactly that he feels.
“Hmm, careful with your words. Some might think you actually love coming to a whore house.” Absentmindedly, Triston took his hand from Mikael’s and let it roam up Mikael’s side, drifting it along his broad shoulders and letting it rest against his cheek, this thumb inching towards the corner of his mouth. Triston opened his eyes then and turned his head slightly so he could see him properly, his gaze searching. There were words he wanted to say, questions he wanted to ask, things he wanted to confirm. But he remained silent, afraid to hear things that he might not be ready to hear, afraid to cross that line. Though if he were being honest, that line was crossed the first time he had allowed Mikael to stay with him.
