Rëvsdrae
Pronounced as /ɾəvs'dɾae/, translated roughly to "Warhound," the Rëvsdrae are a breed of large dogs used as guardian dogs during times of war. While useful for activities such as tracking and defense, their main goal was to look intimidating, and were rarely taken into the battlefield.
Due to their size, few individuals could afford them, and were more commonly owned by military institutions. They came to represent nobility, loyalty and bravery, and were a symbol of high social status.
They were bred to resemble wolves, so they would look menacing to opposing armies. Armour and spiked collars were also common.
In modern times, warhounds are still owned as pets for those able to afford them, though their role in warfare has greatly diminished.
"Warhound" is also a term often used to refer to war veterans, that after the war ended have found themselves living comfortable lives due the rewards granted to them by the state.
