Inside; he had to get inside. Adrien’s mind was a whirlwind of thoughts, and they just kept getting louder. Unable to escape them where he was, he ran down the street, only to pause in front of the first building he spotted. With haste, he yanked open the door and darted inside, slamming it shut behind himself and locking it.

Only then did he turn to see where he was, at which point he froze, gaze landing upon another person. “–Shit, sorry.”

Finally, there was some semblance of peace to Lorelei’s day. She had the apartment to herself, and the low drone of insobriety vibrated through her head as she took her spot across the old, rented couch. It was nice to be able to enjoy herself --- or her lack of thoughts --- with no one else in the house. She knew it to be short-lived, however, and almost expected someone to walk through the door. 

With her hand over her eyes and her hearing muffled by the alcohol, she couldn’t tell who it was. But only two other people had the key to her living space, and it wasn’t like she would have ever left the door unlocked. Assuming it was her brother, a half-smile stretched her lips. “Lance? That you? Why’d you slam the door? Lord knows it probably can’t take much abuse,” a laugh cut through her words. “Quit cussing.”

“Speedy?!” Forrest laughs, swerving over so she could pedal next to him. “You haven’t seen anything yet.” He pedals faster, overtaking her again and making it to the starting line. He had one more lap to go and was going to enjoy every second of it. “This is so weird,” he huffs, shaking his head. “Who thinks of these games?!”

A competitive drive she didn’t know she had fired up as she watched his back pedal away again. Using every drop of strength she could muster, Lorelei leaned forward against the handlebars and pedaled her last lap. But by then, the man had already reached the finish line. She huffed as the tricycle came to a halt, the short physical activity having taken the majority of her energy. How do people use legs so often? She remained seated on the tricycle, her elbows supporting her on the handlebars as she looked up at the stranger.

“People who haven’t actually tried them out themselves.”

Merpeople

Lorelei didn’t have many real friends in her pod, but there were people she spent her time with in order to give herself a label. She didn’t like this friend group, at all, because they were rowdy, offensive, and irresponsible --- but she stuck with them because she felt she had no other choice. They often got into trouble and provoked predators for the hell of it. Maybe your merperson was part of this group, and they recognize Lorelei on the street, seeing her as someone completely different than how they knew her. 

This connection also goes into previous encounters --- maybe your merperson had a run in with Lorelei’s group and recognize her as one of the people that caused them trouble, or the single one that tried sparing them the bother.

Someone from Lorelei and Lance’s pod, who didn’t hang out with Lorelei but knew her as someone who didn’t quite fit in with any specific group. Maybe they saw that she didn’t exactly enjoy the people she surrounded herself with and are trying to make a connection with her now that they’re both in the human realm.

Lorelei is spending some time by the river, either in it or on its banks, and she has a run in with a fellow merperson. Whether this encounter goes good or bad depends on how you’d like to plot it!

Humans

Lorelei is currently looking for a job to make money for rent --- because what she had with her is running low and she needs to pay rent for the place she and her brother are at. This connection could be either a possible employer, or someone who knows the town’s layout well and is also looking for a job. They could join her in the hunt if either were the case. 

Shapeshifters

Someone who spent a lot of time as their animal shift while in the supernatural realm, and stuck by the seashore a lot. Maybe they never interacted with Lorelei, but they could have seen her whenever they visited the water, sunbathing or gazing out into the land. One of those “admiring from afar” cases, or maybe a “wondering what the heck she’s doing”. But they would have seen her on a regular basis, occasionally helping land animals that fell into the water.

Anyone

She’s been out of the water for a while, which means that she’s been gradually weakening. After too long, she’d get far too weak to keep herself up. Maybe someone sees Lorelei stumbling down the street, or walking more slowly than the others, and walk up to check on her right before she faints.

A frenemies connection of sorts, because Lorelei is definitely not going to get along with everyone. She has a hard time making connections with people, and can be shortsighted a lot of the time. But this person could be someone she thought she could get along with, but possibly did something to put her off, leaving her with mixed feelings. Or it could be the other way around, someone that she didn’t think she would like, but somehow proved to be a good person in her book and now she’s unsure of whether to call the friend or not.

Forrest smiles cheekily at the woman next to him. “Cheers,” he echoes, nodding at her. His long legs were too tall to pedal properly, so he found himself struggling to move when the person in charge blew their whistle. “I have… no… idea… what I’m doing!” he puffs, finally getting his tricycle to move. “We have to move around these cones?” he guesses, swerving around crazily. Before he knew it he was laughing, actually laughing, and nearly tipping over sideways due to his speed. 

The tricycles were small, so Lorelei’s knees almost touched her chest as she tried pushing herself forward on the wheels. Being new to legs proved to be more of a struggle than she thought it would have been, and she mentally cursed the human that had left her here --- but the smile on her face gave away just how much fun she was actually having. As she heard the man cry out his own questions, she laughed, pedaling forward a few feet behind him. “Watch it, speedy!”

So she assumed it would be safe to mention home, as she let herself go in her excitement. “Do we have those back home? Really? I’ve never seen any --- are they horses? But why are they so tiny?”

Now, with three beers in his belly and two more strapped to his head, he was starting to rethink things. He lifts his feet onto the tricycle he was assigned to and grins. 

“I have no idea what this game is, but believe me; I’m ready.”

Lorelei was sober, but the man next to her clearly wasn’t. Most of the adults around her were already intoxicated, and she felt herself needing to fight back the urge to join them as she sat with her feet on the tricycle’s peddles. She had been wrapped in to the game by one of the locals she had recently met, and then she had been abandoned to her own by the very same person. “I don’t know either,” she laughed, a faint smile on her face as she gave him a glance. “But cheers, right?”

Lorelei had seen horses before, as she took an hour out of each day to lean against seaside rocks looking back into a field. The animals would run through the tall, dry grasses, their hair blowing behind them as they sped by. She even knew a horse shapeshifter. They were friends. But she couldn’t, for the life of her, figure out this ‘Lil Tony’. Why is it so small? She had never seen one so small. ”Neither do I,” she mumbled, unsure if the man had been speaking to anyone specific. “Is it...a baby?”

Lorelei watched as the old woman strutted away, clearly offended. She supposed she would have been, too, had the words been directed at her --- but they weren’t, so she acted as a mere spectator. An amused one. The rest of her day had been otherwise boring, so a source of entertainment (even one as dull as this) was better than nothing. “So what kind of art do you make?” The question was simple, as she drew a scoop of the ice cream in her hand (it was something she had quickly grown extremely fond of. Especially the cookie dough one). “Just sketches, or have you ever done portraits? Aspiring or succeeded?”
