Seems I got a little confused yesterday at the time of writing here because it was in fact the third, not the second day of a long week. Now we're on the fourth one! So far I feel I've got a lot done and yet there's still a little bit more to go. I'll try and take it as easy as I can but it is a bit daunting, not going to lie.

How will I find the time to do the stuff I like, my hobbies? That's not a lament but a proper question to get me thinking about how I'm going to organise my day.

Maybe, as usual, little by little is the key.

I'm currently rereading Sense & Sensibility and being continually shocked by how radical a novel centered around sisterhood and young womanhood is, even today. As the eldest of three sisters, Jane Austen gets it! As a young woman who still calls my mom to go over everything going on in my social life and has given my mom insight on my sisters' lives just as much as she's given me insight on my own life, Jane Austen GETS IT!!! It's difficult to find modern media that improves much on what Austen did with S&S: healthy family dynamics and sisterhood and depictions of every type of love and the coming of age journey wrapped up with social commentary and heartwarming romance. The characters are just so wonderfully down to earth and I just wish every young woman character could be written with as much care and love as Elinor and Marianne Dashwood were. Also: in a sea of media where family dynamics and female coming of age stories are so often portrayed as traumatic or heavy or complicated in a negative way (not that there isn't space for those portrayals because they're legitimate and true and necessary!) it is so utterly refreshing to see a story that revolves around the coming of age of one sister and the blossoming of another, all without tearing the sisters apart in some horribly dramatic way, while also surrounding both with the love of an empathetic and compassionate mother.

Austen's works are so wonderfully multifaceted and endlessly entertaining and comforting to me, but S&S has a certain charm that didn't quite set in on my first read and is more evident the further I reread. May we all live to see many more novels with such sweet, honest depictions of loving sisters and caring mothers come into the neighborhood. 🩷
