Do you just ever listen to a song that you know will hurt you? it will remind you of the most painful memory in the world, but you listen and remember, even if the rest of your life is dedicated to never ever remembering that pain, ripping that wound open, metaphorically pouring salt, vinegar, and Tabasco until it’s raw, red and stinging because if you lived through that, at least you know that everything else doesn’t hurt that bad, right? You remember his face, and nothing else matters because you felt it, you felt the worst. It was real and nothing else will be that real. You heat it up till its red hot, till it blinds you, cripples you, until you can grin and bear the rest world. Then you stop, wrap the pain up neatly and place it back in that box in your head until you have to recall it again to remember that you have seen horrors that would break the normal man and have lived through it. Now what’s the worst that you can live through again? Nothing is worse than that.

story time: so i grew up in an abstinence-first education state where everything ended with “abstinence is the only form of contraception that is 100% effective” and my best friend gave a presentation on contraception where the last slide was just a picture of the virgin mary that said “abstinence is 99.99% effective” and she almost got kicked out of class
