Repomorame walked along the busy streets, the gloomy sky overhead and the blistering cold wind brushing against his attire. Small bursts of steam expelled from the bottom of his helm due to the cool air. Not bothering to wear any warm attire since he found it a little pointless, he fancy the cold so this was quite the pleasing walk to him. His mind would wonder from time to time as he walked, gazing up at the dark birds who flew across the dark grey sky, getting distracted by them so he didn’t realize that he was walking towards a stop sign and shortly collided with it. When he clashed with said stop sign his helmet made this ringing sound. Vibrating his head around, which caused him to forcibly stop the ringing by placing his hands on the sides of his head.
“ Ow.– “
He hopped no one saw that, that would be embarrassing.
How unfortunate!
But then again, what would life ever be without entertainment? Even better when said entertainment was someone else’s misfortune and without any effort made on her part to contribute to such a result. With this injection of devious humour at least the day appeared that much less bleak and dreary; it was enough for the time being to put a skip into her step as she went on her merry way back to the hostel where she resided. Though of course a laugh to express just how she felt about this individual’s mishap had to be let out -- she wasn’t by any means the sort of person to ever spare a thought for someone’s feelings, and certainly not if this was just a random passerby as far as she was concerned, strange manner of dress taken into account or otherwise. No, she’d already been spoilt way beyond reason, far too accustomed with her callous and unbridled ways to be intimidated by the downright weird appearance. What did that matter, after all? Sure as the weather was bad, she wasn’t about to start gaining a healthy degree of respect for anyone - anytime soon.
“Hit your head, did you!”
That was one hell of a raucous laugh following the obvious remark; lilac eyes were crinkling at the corners in near-crescents as she so blatantly relished her own amusement at his expense.
“Will that helmet of yours prevent concussion? Ah, I wouldn’t be worried -...hospital’s just down the street anyways ~”
If not for the situation he’s in right now he would’ve definitely raised his voice at how she’s insulting the person that he’s got more than a mere soft spot for, or turned and strode off without another word just to show how pissed off he really is. With Huo after all there’s no alleviation or getting her to stop her spiel unless it’s on her own terms.
But it’s just as he’s expected since he already got caught red-handed, she’s really not planning on letting him off the hook until she’s satisfied with pulling him through the mud and making him really get in touch with his own disgrace. He knows her too well to hope for a good result anyway, so right now he’d better start trying to buy himself some leniency, or defy his pride and make himself out to seem as meek and docile as humanly possible. It’s not as though he’s anyone indispensable or gifted in the medical field like she is, which obviously puts him in a potentially dangerous situation when he needs the job and the job itself needs her. Honestly…why do good things always happen to the worst people? He’ll bet his entire savings account that she doesn’t even care all that much about her occupation and high status; in fact he believes it’s a well-known fact in this entire building by now that she might as well be
Okay, so he knows the enemy she’s made herself out to be, and the lack of alternatives he can resort to using in order to preserve his reputation while not sacrificing his ego in the process. One or the other, it seems like. Maybe unless wasting her time and convincing her how troublesome it is to report him to the authorities is a plausible method to use? She’s the kind of person who’d throw in the towel halfway through a surgical procedure simply because she was tired of being on her feet- he can count on her lack of incentive for diligence if nothing else……
Ugh, anyways he can’t listen to his instinct to disengage. Drag it out, make her think it’s too much fuss is the best course of action, otherwise he’ll never hear the end of it, and he might just find himself on the streets because of those fucking 50 calls.
None that she picked up either, god dammit.
“No! No, fuck, no. You got it all wrong, mostly. W-we had a falling out a little bit ago, alright? One of those ugly but really pointless arguments that won’t interest you, okay? And yeah, sure, she got annoyed, like you would imagine obviously. My bad from the beginning.”
That’s actually the truth, too. Partially.
“Then I guess while I was drunk I didn’t want to just keep quiet without even trying to say that I was sorry, so I called her all those times. I don’t know about you but when I drink sometimes I just don’t fucking remember what I’m even doing, and I don’t know how much I had that time. C’mon, you know very well that I’m already struggling just to stay afloat with all this work on my hands as it is, so please,” how disgusting that word is! “please just throw me a line here. I don’t even want to ask you for advice on operations anymore, and I’ve just been doing as you said, marking your attendance as you asked. There’s honestly nothing to report here. I was just fucking deluded out of my mind. Just drop it. Please.”
Please let his ordeal be over. It’s bad enough that he has to resort to begging someone several years his junior.
Such an irony is not lost on her, unfortunately. In fact, his moment of humiliation is relished like a child’s sweet and she damn near almost bursts out laughing - she would have done so freely if only she weren’t presently standing in the corridor where people could see them and complicate his matter more than she’s willing to allow on her own terms. She’s never really seen him as much of an eyesore, truth be told, so it’s both a surprise and a sadistic kind of glee to watch him all but grovel on his knees so that he can be spared.
Which is interesting, indeed. For one thing there’re easily a few ways to dealing with this deliciously troublesome issue on her hands: she could redeem herself in the eyes of those who really matter (at least, marginally in the grand scheme of things) by reporting the poor sod up to the authorities shortly after reassuring him that she won’t do it, or she could just make him think that she’s really going ahead with the deed but not actually take the time off for it. Such things do take some paperwork and talking with more than a few pompous folks in their leather seats, besides; she’s still not too convinced that getting some reaction out of him and positively scaring him shitless is truly worth all that effort. At least he’s saying please like he definitely should. That’s unmistakable now, that he’s been driven to a corner and knows full well the damage she could cause to his career at the drop of a hat. Nothing better than lording over someone who would essentially have played the role of her mentor and supervisor had she been any more normal within this highly competitive medical field -- he can’t even complain about it because he just isn’t that good.
“How hard is it to mark attendance for you? Just a signature and a tick in the list of names, isn’t it? You do know that I could just deal without that favour, right? I’m just playing it safe, but huh ~...not necessary. Also, it’s good that you know that you were being deluded, I guess. What did my last professor even say: you need to know your mistake before you learn from them? How much did you drink, anyway? Should’ve invited me over -...I’d at least have reminded you not to do stupid crap like that.”
She waves a hand dismissively just then, as though scorning him for his deed.
“Unless you’re only drinking cheapo beer, then thank god you didn’t count me in? Only cheap liquor will do that to someone, did you know... Anyway! I’m not interested in what problems you’re having with your crush; no need for that long-winded storytelling, holy shit. You were saying you want me to throw you a line? And you were about to ask me something about your operations later?”
Here’s his catch, just as she wants. Not only is he going to have to do her bidding while she has the incriminating details in her hands - he is a devoted and useful pawn when it matters, and so why not use him to his fullest potential? After all, one can’t do everything alone, as much as she’d like to rid herself of her habitual laziness ( she doesn’t care. )
“Then how about you do something for me? I promise I will keep your secret as long as you agree. Terms and conditions. Or is it called ‘no free lunch’ ~?”
