The weekly mailman drives by, inserting a white, gold crested envelope with letters spelling ‘RUBY’ in the mailbox, and carries on with his drive.
You go to open the mailbox and immediately open it. When you do, it’s very pretty and even has a familiar handwritten note in marker..
This delivery the mailman will remember for a while. As he was about to place the envelope he heard growling and next thing he knows, there’s a girl chasing him absolutely unprovoked. The invitation fell on the ground as he ran.
Ruby wasn’t able to catch up to him as he got on his bike and drove off, making her come back home empty-handed. She probably wouldn’t even have noticed the envelope he dropped if it wasn’t for the shiny parts that she just HAD to have.
Ruby bit a part of the invitation but it didn’t turn out to be really tasty, to her disappointment. She finally looked at it properly and saw…words. She knew these were words but she couldn’t exactly read what they were saying. Ruby voiced out a couple of letters she did recognize but the word just didn’t register. At least she knew one person that could probably read!
Ruby runs back into the palace, ignoring every other bodyguard that is looking at her confused as to why she’s in a hurry and who she's looking for.
After smelling multiple rooms and hallways, she finally found @lost-admiration and just handed him the invitation, without any context as to where she even was or why she’s out of breath.
- Read, please!
Ruby requested, presenting him with a letter that now said “rin antino” instead of “Orin & Santino” due to the piece she bit off.
She never used “please” before joining Vincent. While trying to make her at least slightly fit in they were able to teach her to say “please” but the meaning of this word still didn’t exactly stick in the way it’s supposed to. She just interpreted it as “If I say please people will do anything for me” so now she just spams the thing.
Chidi saw Ruby approaching, but didn’t feel a use in ignoring her antics considering this seemed small. It’s not that he didn’t like to help her, more or less that she intimidated him. Not in battle aspects, just mentally..
He kindly reads out the invitation to her and pauses as he realizes who’s wedding this is
“Hm…interesting. I’m not sure how you’d get there without telling Vincent first, especially since you’d want to look good.”
“Now, I’m not saying you can’t go, I’d just think..or try to think..about it more. Santino is someone we, under Vincent, don’t like; and from personal experience, Orin is just as small and pathetic as him. What a wonder they’re getting married..”
“Really funny how they even wrote to not bring Vincent too.”
Chidi gave back the bitten letter to Ruby with an unamused expression, hoping she didn’t make any stupid decisions in the future. He was biased sure, but he wasn’t gonna stop her from going if she really wanted to. The only problem would be trying to sneak this past Vincent if that’s the route she wanted to go.
She holds the invitation again, looking at the words…upside down.
- Will they have food?
Ruby asked as if he would somehow know what the fuck is happening at the event. It honestly seemed like she just straight up didn’t listen to Chidi’s advice and was judging on what to do next in her own way.
“Knowing them, and just the basics of a regular wedding; Yes, there will be food, Ruby.”
“Probably mainly Italian, you are going to Italy after all.”
He shrugged lightly, not really surprised that was the first thing she would ask.
“Oh and of course, behave yourself. It’s a wedding, people are getting married and they want it to be a peaceful event. You wouldn’t want them kicking you out and not getting to have anymore good food, right?”
“And you know, various other image stuff you wouldn’t really understand even if I told you.”
Ruby looks at the invitation again.
- It wants to eat
It’s hard to say if she’s just hungry in general or if this is her way of saying that she’s going but…
- Where is italy?
Seems like she wants to go.
He seems to think about it for a moment, as if pulling up a visual map in his head. Being in the marines once and having to memorize a map just to qualify, wasn’t something he was gonna throw away so easily.
“You’re going Southeast from France. Going to Florence is just in the North but you’re still going south.”
Chidi notices the insanely confused look on her face, rubbing his face for a moment to figure out how to dumb it down. He sighs and continues to talk.
“Go down France for a really long time. Then you take a right for another long time, then you keep going down until you know you’ve reached Italy; then you go find Florence. Does that make sense??”
At this point he was confusing himself, feeling what he said was wrong but also right?
“I’m not sure how much I trust you getting to Italy on your own, so I’ll be courteous, and drive you there myself, is that okay?”
After a whole minute or so of looking at Chidi with not a SINGLE thought behind those eyes, she finally answered with a smile. - Yes, please! She's still not sure of what a wedding is but she decided not to ask him any more questions...he brain already hurts just from those directions.
“Alright, then I’ll drive you. There’s 6 weeks and 2 days until the event, so you should have more than enough time to figure out what you want to wear; and maybe even work on social etiquette..?”
Chidi emphasized in a whisper, so maybe it could jog her into wanting to practice, but it was probably a fat chance. As much as Chidi hated some people, he wouldn’t wish a deranged possum on them; which is the equivalent to Ruby.
It’s not like he was trying to be mean either, more or less just trying to push her into the right direction. Ruby might be a great asset, but not the greatest partner.
“Otherwise, I assume you have any questions, save them for the ride, it’ll be long.”
