Hmph, so instead of simply bringing such small objects as a flask and tongs she decided to conjure them up with what looked to be magic. Magic really was used for anything nowadays..
“Thank heavens. This little time-waster of yours has gone on much longer than I’d hope it would.”
He stated, now realising just how much time he had wasted; a solid few minutes which were now completely gone. Those few minutes could’ve been spent on work rather than talking about such trivial things. Sure, he was slightly interested in it, but in the end the result was a complete nothing.
He motioned to his wrist and tapped it, like someone would while wearing a watch.
Mona snorted as she stooped to grab her sample, “You’re the one who insisted on sticking around.”
Even when Mona was trying not to offend someone, her snarky nature invariably slipped out. But she had what she’d come for, at least for now.
Several flasks later, Mona stood up and banished her prizes, smiling widely.
“Well! That’s all for now. You’ve been very p a t i e n t.”
“Oh, and you’ve been such pleasant company.”
He returned the sarcasm with an irritated tone, before starting to walk off. He paused and turned around, looking back towards her.
“If I ever see you below ground again it best be in a coffin. Now get out of my sight.”
Was he being a little unnecessarily harsh? Yeah, maybe.

“Well, that’s why I was asking. Didn’t get your name either, though.”
Ugh. He really let this stranger walk in, interrupt him and do their petty research without even knowing them. Why he had let them stay in the first place he had no idea.
“It’s Mona,” she said, adjusting her cape a little, “I work in the Village. I’d invite you down for a game and a flagon of juice, but…”
She let the sentence remain unfinished.
“…Anyway. I’m just going to take a few samples…”
With a small blue flash, there was a flask in one hand and a pair of tongs in the other.
“…and then I’ll be out of your hair. Er. Flare.”

He nodded along quietly as he listened. Unsure of how Slime could be important as something such as Rock, he shrugged it off as another alchemy thing he’d either never understand of forget about after ten minutes. This wasn’t exactly too important to him anyways- although knowledge is power and he liked to be known as a man of power. So perhaps he’ll try to learn a little something today.
“Got it.”
He responded, before thinking for a moment.
“Say, you’re an alchemist. You don’t see many of those around here; not unless they work for Plague Knight. Are you by any chance associated with his work?”
He asked, rather skeptical. Despite being on the same side and both serving the Enchantress, Mole wouldn’t exactly help out somebody who was too cowardly to come down and be there in person, instead sending this minion of his to do their work.
Mona smiled impassively.
“You wouldn’t. Alchemists like their privacy,” she raised an eyebrow, “And, no, I’m not in league with the Order. Don’t you think you’d have met me if I was?”
It wasn’t a lie. More an omission of certain key facts. She paid no allegiance to the Enchantress, and neither did Plague Knight. And she wasn’t just associated with his work. She was responsible for half of it. But Mole Knight didn’t need to know any of that. He was one of the less openly hostile members of the Order, and Mona wanted to keep it that way.

“It’s been around since long before I even set foot here- which was quite some time ago. Most likely natural. Wouldn’t be surprised if they had something to do with Blorbs or Bohtos, though. They seem to be made of the stuff. Or, something similar atleast. I don’t know.”
He commented, before scooping up the slime he’d set on the floor and discarding it in the lava pool. He’ll have to remind himself later on to fill that hole- it was now another one of many hazards around. Not like he’d ever fall in it himself, but he’d rather not have to replace a worker.
“Surely a piece of slime’s origin can’t be that important, right.”
“Blorbs…” Mona was familiar with the globular creatures. She supposed the colour and texture made sense in connection, but not their lack of springiness or their ignition capabilities.
She’d never seen a Bohto, though.
“It is to an alchemist,” said Mona, “Just as important as the quality of rock would be to a miner, I expect. I’m sure your technique for tunnelling through shale is quite a bit different than with limestone.”
He nodded along quietly as he listened. How often is it that you DO return to the surface?
“Not often. If I had the chance, I’d never leave the comforts of what is below the ground. “
“However, as much work there is to be done below the ground, the Enchantress demands my presence upon the surface too.”

“Allow me to demonstrate.”
Without another word, he stomped fearlessly on the ground, causing the rock below to completely break. Moving the now-broken rock out of the way with his claws, it revealed a pool of lava. He stomped once more, this time more lightly and then paused for a second, looking up towards the ceilings. Two large drops of slime fell from it with haste. surrounding the lava pool perfectly.
“Those who are careless may mistakenly step on the slime as they were to walk around the lava, but end up slipping. And those who are foolish would try to jump on the slime while there’s such a low ceiling.”
Mona suppressed a flinch as the ground broke away so easily. It appeared the rumours of Mole Knight’s strength were well-founded. That, or she would have to tread extra-carefully on this excursion. Probably both.
“Well, I suppose it’s a good deterrent for the clumsy,” she muttered, “Where does it… come from, exactly? Presumably it’s naturally occurring, but…”
Mona could simply place a sample in an identification circle if she really needed to, but in her experience, people tended to get antsy when you started drawing circles with complicated sigils. Mole Knight did not seem the type to take kindly to it, so she might as well ask first and save the trouble for plan B.
