“I will never understand how people decide to get up and just leave. How do you go from telling someone their importance and meaning to you one week and avoiding them the next? Did you actually mean what you said, or were you just lying like everyone else?”
more on writing muslim characters from a hijabi muslim girl
- hijabis get really excited over pretty scarves - they also like to collect pins and brooches - we get asked a lot of questions and it can be annoying or it can be amusing, just depends on our mood and personality and how the question is phrased - common questions include: - “not even water?” (referring to fasting) - hijabis hear a lot of “do you sleep in that?” (we don’t) and “where is your hair?” (in a bun or a braid, usually) - “is it mooze-slim or mozzlem?” (the answer is neither, it’s muslim, with a soft s and accent on the first syllable) - “ee-slam or iz-lamb?” (it’s iss-laam, accent on the first syllable) - “hee-job?” (heh-jahb, accent on the second syllable)
- “kor-an?” (no. quran. say it like koor-annn, accent on the second syllable) - people tend to mess up our names really badly and you just get a sigh and a resigned nod or an awkward smile, maybe a nickname instead - long hair is easy to hide, short hair is harder to wrap up - hijab isn’t just covering hair, it’s also showing as little skin as possible with the exception of face, hands, and feet, and not wearing tight/sheer clothing - that applies to men too, people just don’t like to mention it ( i wonder why) - henna/mehendi isn’t just for special occasions, you’ll see people wearing it for fun - henna/mehendi isn’t just for muslims, either, it’s not a religious thing - henna/mehendi is not just for women, men also wear it, especially on their weddings - there are big mehendi parties in the couple of nights before eid where people (usually just women and kids) gather and do each other’s mehendi, usually just hands and feet - five daily prayers - most muslim kids can stutter through a couple verses of quran in the original arabic text by the age of seven or eight, it does not matter where they live or where they’re from or what language they speak natively - muslim families tend to have multiple copies of the quran - there are no “versions” of the quran, there has only ever been one. all muslims follow the exact same book - muslims have no concept of taking God’s name in vain, we call on God at every little inconvenience - don’t use islamic phrases if you don’t know what they mean or how to use them. we use them often, inside and outside of religious settings. in islam, it is encouraged to mention God often and we say these things very casually, but we take them very seriously - Allahu Akbar means “God is Greatest” (often said when something shocks or surprises us, or if we’re scared or daunted, or when something amazing happens, whether it be good or bad; it’s like saying “oh my god”) - Subhan Allah means “Glory be to God” (i say subhan Allah at the sky, at babies, at trees, whatever strikes me as pleasant, especially if it’s in nature) - Bismillah means “in the name of God” and it’s just something you say before you start something like eating or doing your homework - In Shaa Allah means “if God wills” (example: you’ll be famous, in shaa Allah) (it’s a reminder that the future is in God’s hands, so be humble and be hopeful)
- Astaghfirullah means “i seek forgiveness from Allah” and it’s like “god forgive me” - Alhamdulillah means “all thanks and praise belong to God” and it’s just a little bit more serious than saying “thank god” (example: i passed my exams, alhamdulillah; i made it home okay, alhamdulillah) - when i say we use them casually, i really mean it - teacher forgot to assign homework? Alhamdulillah - our version of “amen” is “ameen” - muslims greet each other with “assalamu alaikum” which just means “peace be on you” and it’s like saying hi - the proper response is “walaikum assalam” which means “and on you be peace” and it’s like saying “you too”
As a Muslim this post is so very important and it makes me so happy that it gives the small facts and details that one might be unaware of or confused about.
I’ve reblogged it before but honestly this fucking post touches me so much. To see how intrinsic Allah is to followers of Islam and how ingrained He is in their daily lives is so beautiful.
Also, can we just talk about the fact that there aren’t like 100 different versions of the Quran? Because I didn’t know that and that legit AMAZES me.

AFTER
I love them together… 😍😍 😍😍 😍😍
Movie Opinion:
Fineeee, I’ve read all the books and I saw the movie, I liked it, was pretty good. But I didn’t like 3 things:
1. Was too fast. In the first 5’ of movie they were at the lake and let’s not talk about how may scenes they changed the order.
2. Hardin was too nice, I know this sounds terrible because in the books Hardin is such an asshole (and I’m not defending the toxic relationship he has with Tessa) but one of the points of the books is to see his transtition and how he changes in a good way and I don’t think we will be able to see that in the movie, like the worst thing he says to Tessa is that she’s an idiot, which is terrible but is nothing compare to the Hardin we know from the books.
3. What is Zed doing? Like nothing, I mean he only has like 1 line in the whole movie and I don’t like that because I think he’s an important character.
Now, things that I liked… The Hessa’s relationship, the actors, the chemistry, everything between Hero and Jo was perfect, I’m sorry they didn’t know how to take more advantatge from it.
I liked the movie it was goos, but it could be better.
Please no hate, this is my personal opinion and doesn’t mean I’m rigth this is just my opinion and you don’t have to share it.

Anna Todd: After series: Hardin Scott [ISTP]
CHARACTER TYPING FROM THE BOOK SERIES
CONTAINS SPOLIERS
Dominant function: Ti Auxiliary function: Se Tertiary function: Ni Inferior function: Fe
Ti (Introverted Thinking)- He determines the world around him by analyzing others behaviors and expressions, relating it back to him in a logical sense. He has a set logical view of how the world works and how women work. “People suck, therefore I must refrain from emotional connection…my parents marriage failed, therefore marriage doesn’t work.. All women want is male attention, therefore it will be easy to seduce them… Because of my past behaviors and relationships with women, I will never be capable of being a boyfriend” He believes it’s logical to rebel and be angry at his father for his neglectful parenting. He believes it’s logical to get back at Tessa when she upsets him.
Se (Extroverted Sensing)- Hardin has a very strong Se. He definitely uses this function to interact with his outer world. He craves sexual encounters and alcohol when times get tough. He gets into many physical fights with other characters. He and Tessa fight when her Ni sparks a conversation about the future because he doesn’t like to think that far in advance. His preference for living in the present moment causes him to act impulsively and ruin a lot of things. He also refers to the past lot and it haunts him, shown in his nightmares.
Ni (Introverted Intuition)- Hardin can be intuitive, as he loves reading books and getting lost in his imagination while reading. He imagined what his life would be like with Tessa. He considers what life would be like without Tessa. He sees the potential in he and Tessa’s relationship. Tessa definitely brings out his Ni. He attempts to improve and perfect his behavior for Tessa throughout the novels. He expresses his passion for Tessa by writing about their love story in a notebook that later becomes a best seller.
Fe (Extroverted Feeling)- Hardin shows inferior Fe in that he is not at all in touch with his feelings and is uncomfortable expressing them. We learn of his anxiety and panic attacks in Before. In those moments of intense emotion, he was unaware that he was crying. For a long time he doesn’t tell his mother “I love you” and refrains from forming any type of emotional connection. He at first doesn’t know how to comfort Tessa when she’s upset and says things that hurt her without meaning to (We learn this in Before). He shows inferior Fe even when he does hurt Tessa with intentions of doing so, in that he can’t handle being in conflict with her. He wants to be at peace with Tessa and truly feels remorse for hurting her after the deed is done because he loves her. His inferior Fe also shows in his protection of his female friends at fraternity parties. He stays in the room with Steph until the freshmen leaves to prevent her from being raped in Before. It is also mentioned after he saved Tessa from Neil in Before, he’s stopped Neil from raping Molly before. Inferior Fe is shown in his concern of his reputation. He continued to discuss his “sexual relationship” with Tessa to his friends concerning the bet. This trait develops more over time. At the end of the After series, he becomes more emotionally open and aware, in a healthy way, using his Fe to connect with others as a mental health advocate and Philanthropist.
Note: He is a super unhealthy person and an obvious opposite of Tessa (INFJ). As for Hardin’s family, they aren’t very developed characters but I believe Ken is IxFx. He shows Fe in wanting to be at peace with his son, Hardin. Karen is xxFJ (Fe type). Trish is an ExFx type. Vance is Exxx type. I think he uses Fe, so either ESFJ, ENFJ, or ESTP. He reminds me of Hardin sometimes when reading about him. Kim is ExFP and Smith is INTx. He’s super intelligent, perceptive, and a bookworm leading me to believe he’s INTJ. Smith could be INTP, as Hardin says he reminds him of a younger version of himself (INTP is a Ti dom). As for Hardin’s “punk” friends, Zed is ISFP (kind of in the background, has morals because he feels bad about bet, sensor type in that he likes parties and plants). Molly is no doubt ESTP, same as Hardin but likes attention. Nate is a feeler, so ESFP? Nate is friendly to Tessa right off the bat. Tristan is IxFP, seems similar to Zed. Steph to me sounds like a very unhealthy and manipulative ESFP.

People forget that Ben and Jerry are real guys that were always invested in civil rights, sexuality equality, and all other injustices. I’m not surprised by this ad. They be awesome.
^^ yeah they’re awesome. research these guys
And they aren’t just cashing in on popular movements either, they donate loads (if not all, memory is foggy) of the proceeds from activist products like this to charities and orgs that work in the fields they’re raising awareness for.
