Grinning with all the wickedness of a puppy, he leads her out further until his skates are touching the ice, happiness bubbling from the blades up his legs, crawling like vines into his heart and infecting within him a joy he never found anywhere else — unless he was with her. Not that he would admit it no, no, never admit to that. Falling into her smile was easier than staying on the ice, and that was saying something, the moves second nature to him, skating backwards with nothing more than a glance, a glance really, just to keep from looking like a fool staring at her. A breathless chuckle that turned to smoke before it could ever leave the cavern of his mouth, Eli spun them slowly, letting one of her hands go so she would glide behind him, leading her around the ice in lazy circles.
"Don’t you trust me, kid?"
It was more than a simple question, though veiled by the dancing irises of his eyes, one he’d never ask her outright and truthfully but instead like this, With a lilt of a trick up his sleeve, with a promise of playfulness in punctuation. It was easier, simpler. To hide like a coward behind the guise of well placed friendship, than to admit to the fear that perhaps she didn’t. With another chuckle and a quick turn to show just how much control he had on the ice, he grinned, waggling his brows. “Don’t need to exorcise anything when I can skate like this, huh?”
Following every pattern he lazily danced on the ice, Darcy followed willingly and without question as she was far more comfortable with her hand in his than she should have been. Trust? Where was trust when everyone you've ever known has left you, even the brothers who call themselves her brothers are never really there so she hates the word 'trust'. Still, her smile is easy and light when he asks her as if she doesn't have any trust issues at all as if she trusts him with every fiber of her being. He got her out there after all, took the shaking right out of her knees and didn't give her a chance with that smile to make her think about the fact that the only thing that separates her and immanent death is a layer of ice.
"I trust you." She laughs, "With my life apparently." Her fingers twine with his as she glides almost effortlessly behind him as he leads her about, like one of the kids with their parents. Watching him carefully, grateful for the chill to redden her cheeks rather than the feeling of his eyes on her. "You should be int he winter Olympics, with fancy moves like that." It's almost effortless, no, not almost, it is as she struggles to keep her balance and only finding it when her small hand clutches at the back of his jacket.
